Chapter 367: Chapter 367: I Agree
Stuart enters the conference room, and the directors immediately start asking him questions.
"What’s going on?"
"Why are you handing over your shares to Childe?"
"Childe is going to be the CEO. That’s outrageous!"
"He has no idea how to run the company!"
Stuart never said a word, he walked over and sat in the deputy’s seat and not his usual seat as the CEO. Every one of the board members stared at him in shock. Then the door opened and I walked Childe. He smiled and winked at the directors. All eyes were on him when he sat down in the CEO’s seat. They were appalled by such behavior and started screaming and shouting.
Louis was the first one to speak out. "He has no idea what it means to be a CEO. You should not be in that seat. Get out of it."
Mike was well respected by all of the members of the board, and he knew there was something not right between Stuart and Childe. He banged his fist on the table and said in a stern voice, "That’s enough!"
Then an eerie silence fell over the conference room for several minutes. Mike frowned and raised his voice. "What the hell is going on?" he asked.
"Have a look at this," Childe said. He threw the folder at Mike, and all the papers slid across the table. Mike picked up the one in front of him and stared at the big black letters, he began to read it out loud, "A register of transfer-going to Childe Yates, Disclaimer-Stuart is renouncing his legal right to benefit from his inheritance." His face grew deadly pale, his eyes were set and staring. Then, from between rigid lips, he uttered, "Stuart.....How can this be? Is this some kind of sick joke?"
Stuart shook his head and said, "No, Mike, I told you before I left what was going to happen."
"But it’s not as simple as putting it down on paper. There’s more to it than that. You two can’t decide this on your own. It needs to be discussed between the board members, and then we vote. If one person opposes then..."
Rose Yates was sitting quietly in the corner of the room. She was infuriated and got up and banged her hands on the table. "Mike, read the papers. It says right there in black print that Stuart is voluntarily relinquishing his right to his inheritance. This should not be an issue," she stated.
Madame Yates was also in the room. She steps forward and says, "Who do you think you are? Who gave you permission to speak? This is between the board members."
"Don’t you tell me what to do. You’ve hated me ever since you set eyes on me. This should all be Childes’ and not Stuart’s," Rose said, raising her voice.
"Shut your mouth!" Madame Yates felt uncontrollable anger. She could feel herself getting worked up and had to force herself to calm. She took a deep breath. "We are here to let the board members decide."
"Excuse me, My Ladies," Mike interrupted. "This conflict between you two has lasted for fifteen minutes. Shall we continue on with our business?" He turned to look at Stuart, and his eyes were watching his face intently. There was a troubled expression on his face. He wondered whether Stuart was seriously thinking about giving up his position. "Stuart, tell us what you want to do?" he asked.
The room was quiet, waiting for Stuart’s answer. Stuart turns back to Mike, and his eyes are cold and calculating. He nodded his head slowly, to each of them, and said, "I’m prepared to renounce my inheritance right to Childe. As you can see, my attorney-drafted up a proposed agreement."
Louis flared up instantly, banging the table with his huge fist. "This is a joke, right? You worked so hard on passing your assessment and now this. You would never give it up so easily, and something’s happened that you haven’t told us about." He looks at Childe, and a grin appears on his face. He knows it’s because of him, but he doesn’t know why. "You realize that once you give it up, you can never take it back? When the board makes their final decision, there’s nothing more we can do for you. Because of this, you will become an unqualified successor, and there’s..." He hesitates. Not wanting to finish his final statement. "You will be punished."
"I understand the rules," Stuart said, willing his voice to stay calm.
"Yes, we have to follow the rules. We will have a meeting and decide whether this arrangement will take effect," Mike informed the members. "No matter what the results are, Stuart took matters into his own hands and intentionally went against his family. He will be punished," Mike’s voice trembled a little as he spoke. A strange look grew on his face, and he turned to Madame Yates. "I have to admit I’m not as experienced or sophisticated enough as you are Madame. I find it difficult to proceed. I’ve participated in all aspects of the company, but this..." He found it difficult to complete his sentence, appearing at a loss for words. "Madame, do you agree with Stuart’s decision?" frёewebηovel.cѳm
Madame Yates nodded her head to him and answered, "This is his own choice, and I will not interfere. Just follow the rules." She really didn’t get involved in the matter, remaining impartial, so Stuart was on his own.
Rose turned to face Madame with a smug look of success on her face. She sighed with relief. ’Thank God,’ she thought. ’All it takes is one person to oppose, and Childe would be denied his rightful place as the heir. Now that she has agreed, everyone will agree.’ She turns to look at Stuart, and a part of her, a tiny part, feels sorry for him.
Mike leaned across the table and tried to keep his voice steady, "Okay, we’ve all heard what Madame Yates had to say. Let the meeting officially begin. I want to make sure everyone understands. Stuart is giving up his inheritance rights and giving Childe forty percent of his shares. We need to take a vote."
A deep silence fell like a cloak of concern over those in attendance. Never before had so much thought been focused on one single problem, for the ruling class wished with all their hearts that Stuart would regain his frame of mind and take back his position as the CEO. When called upon to make a decision, they were at a loss to know what to do. No matter who they voted for, they knew there would be consequences.
Madame Yates was the first one to raise her hand. "I agree," she shouted so loud that everyone went silent, staring at her with surprise. She was Stuart’s mother. Whatever decision she made, the directors were prepared to follow. Stuart raised his eyebrows slightly and glanced at his mother quickly. His face showed little emotion, and there was no particular expression in his eyes.
One by one, the board members raised their hands.
"I agree."
"I agree."
In the end, everyone agreed, with a total of eighteen votes. This decision weighed heavily on Mike’s mind. He wasn’t pleased with the final decision; he slowly turns his head and looks at Stuart. In a low voice, he said, "We have all agreed. As of today, the CEO of the L. N Group will be..."
