Chapter 361: Chapter 361: I’ve Seen You Before

Aaron sat alone in the attic of the castle. The only light in the room came from a single flickering candle. He was surrounded by darkness. Not the physical dark, but the spiritual darkness. The dark reality that a person could actually come to a place where there was no hope. He was there; he was stuck, and whatever light he had in his life was slowly fading away.

Edie was pacing back in forth in the room. She even tried opening the door several times. "Get back in the room," the guard would say and close the door immediately. And every hour, the doctor would come and check on Annie’s condition. Edie would try to talk to him, but he never once looked in Edie’s direction.

Impaled by the overwhelming emotion which assailed her from every direction, Edie was powerless. She wanted Stuart to save her, but in order to do so, his life would be in jeopardy. ’Will Stuart find me. Will he be able to save himself and me.’ Her mind was flooded with worry. She sat on the floor and thought about the past month’s events. ’Only a few days ago, I was kidnapped by people who wanted to take nude pictures of me and then kill me.’ She had no idea what was going on, and Stuart wouldn’t tell her. ’Now, I’m kidnapped again by my husband’s brother. Aaron is an eccentric person who is capable of just about anything. I don’t know what he is going to do to me.’ Edie shook her head, trying to free herself from the emotions she was feeling.

"Why are you sitting on the floor?" The little girl’s voice sounded so sweet and innocent, like the voice of an angel.

Edie’s heart felt as if it was overflowing with emotion. "You’re finally awake," Edie said, sounding surprised. "How are you feeling? Did you want me to get the doctor for you?" She took her hand and looked at her anxiously.

Annie shook her head. "I don’t feel like I’m sick. I have a little pain, but something feels different." She looked confused. "The pain I used to have in my heart it’s not there anymore. This pain isn’t as bad," she said, trying to explain the best she could

Edie chuckled. "You’re a very smart little girl."

Annie looked at Edie and said, "I’ve seen you before."

Edie said, "Yes, by the road. Don’t you remember?"

Annie shook her head again. "No, I’ve seen you before we met on the road.

Edie widened her eyes in surprise. ’Have I seen this girl before? Then why don’t I have any memory of it,’ she thought. "When did you see me?" Edie asked.

"I watched you on the TV. Childe watches it every night," Annie explained.

"Are you talking about Aaron? He watches my drama with you every night," Edie was puzzled. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Edie was in a daze, and her mind lost amidst the confusion. "Why are you in my house?" Annie asked softly.

"This is your house?" Edie’s eyes widened again. She thought the monitor and speaker were recently installed, but it was obvious it was put in there for another reason. "Isn’t this Aaron’s home?"

Annie nodded excitedly, "Yes, but Childe told me it was my house too. My name is Annie, and Childe brought me back from a hospital filled with sick kids."Annie looked at Edie and touched her face. "You’re very pretty. Who are you? Are you a friend of Childe’s’?" she asked.

’What is my relationship with Aaron?’ Edie wondered. She didn’t know how to respond to her question. ’I’m his sister-in-law, but would Aaron even admit it?’

Before Edie had a chance to answer, a voice came from behind Edie. "She’s my brother’s friend. She knew I was picking you up from the hospital, so she came to visit you and me," Aaron explained.

Edie’s body shivered at the sound of his voice. Her mind was telling her to run, and just as turned, her arm was grabbed by Aaron. He swung her around to face him. For a moment, Edie and Childe just stood there looking at each other, and then he awkwardly motioned to the bed. "Sit," he said with a stern voice.

Childe started to laugh and said, "Were you thinking about leaving? Do I look like a monster that would devour you up in a minute?" He titled his head, awaiting her reply. His lips curved into a smile.

Edie clenched her jaw, her hands shaking as she stared at him. She watched him without emotion. ’Monster, he’s worse than a monster. He’s a demon from hell,’ she thought. Hardly anything made her this angry, and Childe was definitely getting to her. Edie’s fists tightened. She hated him. She remained silent and didn’t say one word because she didn’t want to put this poor child’s life in danger.

Annie interrupted, Edie’s thoughts as she got up and grabbed her hand. The child opened her large black eyes and looked amused. "Did you really come to visit us?" She looked earnestly towards Edie and exclaimed.

Aaron answered for Edie, "Of course, she has." His dull gaze is peering at Edie as she trembles.

Annie seemed so excited when she heard Aaron’s word. She smiled and said, "Really? I’m so happy. No one has ever visited us here before."

Childe whispered softly, giving her a smile. "Silly Annie. What about Mr. Black?

Annie shook her head, her face serious as she spoke," No, Mr. Black doesn’t count. He’s your servant, and he works for you. She came to visit us, and she doesn’t work for you. That makes her very special."

"You’re a very smart little girl for your age," Edie said. She was surprised how quickly Annie picked up on the difference between a servant and a friend. Annie held onto Edie’s hand, swaying it back and forth and didn’t want to let it go. "You really like Childe, don’t you," Edie said in a low voice.

"And what’s not to like about me?" Aaron responded. He kneeled down beside Annie and tucked a few strands of her soft black hair behind her ear. "If you like Edie, maybe she can stay with us a few more days. Would you like that?" Childe asked.

Annie jumped up and down in delight. "Yes, I would love it," she nodded.

He is seeing her get so excited. Aaron expressed his concern. "Calm down! This kind of excitement isn’t good for your heart."

Annie released Edie’s hand and sighed. "He’s right. I should leave." She lowered her head in disappointment as she walked out of the room.

Edie’s heart ached as she watched Annie disappear. She wanted to tell Annie what type of man Aaron really was, but how could she explain it to a little girl. Annie was happy, and she didn’t want to take it away from her. ’A child is so innocent and pure. How could he lie to her?’ Edie thought. She turned and glared at Aaron with angry eyes. "You have told Annie nothing but lies."

Aaron raised his eyebrows. "Do you not see how happy Annie is? Is that not a good thing? She was abandoned, and I took her in. Why should it matter if I lie to her?" he asked, his voice dry with sarcasm.

Edie clenched her teeth to hold back a scream. She was furious. "You’re a crazy maniac!" freēwebnovel.com

"Maniac, I like that!" Aaron laughed. A strange expression flickered across his face. Then his lips turned up in a crooked grin. "You’re still so naive, even after everything that’s happened. You haven’t learned anything from me, have you?"
