Chapter 359: Chapter 359: She Was Gone

When Childe looked into Annie’s eyes, he saw a mixture of determination to survive and the desire to be free of his pain. "I saw the fear in her eyes, and it scared me to death," he said out loud. An agonized look passed across his face when he realized what he tried to do to her. He looked out the window with tear-filled eyes and felt horror retake hold of him.

It all happened so fast. Childe looked into the eyes of the little girl. Her heart was beating hard. Annie stared at Childe intensely, not sure what he was up to. He was making promises he couldn’t possibly keep. She didn’t believe a word of it.

They had arrived at the hospital, and Aaron sat outside, watching silently. Childes’ hardened heart was slowly beginning to soften. He couldn’t help wonder, ’Did Annie know it was me?’ He let out a sigh of relief when he noticed it was Edie in the car and not Stuart. Childe rushed to Annie because he felt bad. He felt guilty. He felt relieved, and he didn’t have to follow through with his plans. He followed Ivan from behind. Without thinking, he started praying, HIs mind a blur of promises and pleas. He prayed hard, squeezed his eye shut, trying to imagine the earless Jesus hovering nearby, listening."Let her pull through, and there won’t be any more revenge. The house will only be surrounded by happiness.".

Several doctors quickly examined Annie. Being informed that Annie had a congenital heart condition, Edie insisted on paying for it. "Ivan, would you mind going to the billing department and taking care of it for me? I know Stuart would want to do it. I want to stay with Annie until it’s time for surgery." Edie asked.

The on-call heart surgeon came in and explained everything to Edie. "Annie’s condition is very serious, but thanks to your quick actions, she’s probably going to pull through. I’ll be repairing a valve in her heart." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Edie never said a word only nodded her head as she listened and watched them take Annie away. Edie and Ivan waited patiently in a lounge inside the hospital. Edie stood up and started pacing the floor, nervously wringing her hands. "Why haven’t we heard anything? Someone should’ve come in by now." Neither one of them knew what was going on. Edie prayed that the little girl would be alright. She said, "Please, someone tell us what’s happening." She sat back down in a chair and watched the door for a sign of someone to let her know what was going on. She waited and waited. Hours had gone by, and finally, a doctor dressed in green scrubs came into the room.

"Mrs. Yates?" he asked.

Edie jumped up and said, "Yes, how is she?"

The doctor looked from Edie to Ivan and said, "Would you come with me? There’s something I need to discuss with you in private."

Edie looked at Ivan, and he nodded his head. "I’ll be right here waiting," he said.

Edie followed the doctor out. He took her to the end of a corridor. She glanced around, noticing there wasn’t an office, only an exit. She was starting to get a little confused and asked, "Why are we going this way?"

The doctor wouldn’t look her in the eye. He only said, "You’ll understand once we get there."

Suppressing her anxiety, Edie took one more step and stopped, "I’m going to go get Ivan," she said, and started to feel a little uneasy. She turned around to leave, and someone was standing behind her. He was dressed in a black t-shirt, jeans, and wearing a black ski mask covering his face. She stood frozen, making eye contact with him. ’Those eyes! It can’t be!’ Just as that thought escaped her mind. The man slowly removed his mask.

Edie took a step back. He raised his eyebrow and said, "Where are you going?"

"Aaron...It’s...not...possible..." Her voice trembled in fear. Seeing him after all this time, it paralyzed her for a split second with utter terror. Coming to her senses, she shouted out, "Ivan...." but it was too late. The doctor came up from behind her and injected her with a needle. Her head started to feel dizzy, and her vision became blurred. Before she lost consciousness, all she could see was Aaron’s evil eyes looking back at her. She began to pitch forward slowly, and Aaron caught her before she fell.

Childe looked at the doctor and said in a frigid tone, "Get the surveillance videos and destroy them. If anyone finds them, you’re a dead man. Do you understand?"

The doctor’s body trembled in fear. "Yes, of course," he answered obsequiously.

Aaron turned around and left through the exit, which led to an underground parking lot. Ivan looked at his watch and realized Edie had been gone for some time. He took out his phone and called her, but there was no answer. He started feeling nervous. He stepped out into the corridor and noticed the doctor passing by. "Excuse me, but have you seen Mrs. Yates? You were talking to her earlier," he asked.

The doctor remained calm and said, "Yes, she said she was going to the lady’s room."

The expression on the doctor’s face didn’t reveal anything suspicious, so Ivan shook his head and said, "Thank you."

The doctor started to walk away and waved his hand in the air. "You’re welcome. Let me or one of the nurses know if you need anything else."

Ivan went back into the waiting room and sat down. Ten minutes had passed, and still no Edie. He looked at his watch again and again, until finally, he started to have a bad feeling. "Where is she?" he said out loud. He left the room and asked one of the nurses for directions to the washroom. He stood in front of the door and knocked on it. "Mrs. Yates, are you in there?" But there was no reply. He knocked several more times and still no answer. A nurse was passing by, and Ivan said, "Excuse, I’m looking for a woman. Would you mind going in to see if she’s in there? Her name is Mrs. Yates." freewebnøvel.coɱ

The nurse went in and came right back out and said, "I’m sorry, sir, but the washroom is empty."

These words blared through Ivan’s mind like somebody shouted it through a megaphone. "How can that be?" He rushed to the security office to take a look at the surveillance cameras. He entered, and two security guards were sitting down, talking amongst themselves. "Excuse me, sir, but you’re not allowed to be in here," one of the guards said.

Ivan ignored him and went over to the surveillance equipment and checked the recordings. He watched it over and over again. The recording showed Edie sitting in the chair, and then it showed the chair is empty. The time frame was between ten forty and ten fifty. Ivan’s facial expression became very worried. "Who’s been here? Parts of the video have been deleted."

One of the guards became infuriated with Ivan and said, "Get out of here. You’re not allowed to touch that." He grabbed Ivan’s arm and tried to take him out of the room.

Ivan turned around and glared at him. "Do you have any idea who that woman is? That is Stuart Yates’s wife," he said. "If something’s happened to her, he will see to it that every one of you pay."

The guards stood there, staring at him in shock. Their bland faces were expressionless.
