Chapter 358: Chapter 358: I’ll Be Back

Childe looked at Annie, almost like he was dazed. He didn’t cry, but his eyes were watering, and then the expression in his eyes lightened a little, but he did not smile. "Why would you say that?" he asked. "We are supposed to get married. Do you remember? I want you in my life." He glanced at his watch. "I have to go, but I’ll be back. Okay!"

Annie nodded, her expression unchanged. Then Childe turned and left. He refused to look back at her, but a voice in his head kept saying, ’No, you can’t. Keep your eyes looking straight ahead.’ After a long pause, he sighed and then looked back. The guilt slithered through him as he saw the disappointment showing on her face. "I have to stay focused," he whispered to himself. The pang of guilt creeps in like an evil fog.

Childe got in the truck and drove a little way up the road and changed vehicles. He put on a mask. It covered his face, only revealing his eyes, lips, and the tip of his nose. His eyes burned with hate, and his lips were curved, showing his teeth in a wolfish grin, busy trying to contain his amazement as if he was just on the verge of laughter.

Annie did as Childe asked and stood by the bus stop. She didn’t sit on the chair, and she scuffed the ground with the toe of her shoe. Then she felt a surge of pressure in her bladder, "Oh no! How much longer is he going to be." Her voice sounded worried.

Childe parked the car behind a tree. He was keeping a close eye on Annie. "When she realizes what I’m about to do? She’ll regret trusting me." He tries to see the expression on her face, but she’s too far away. At that moment, his phone rang, and he quickly answered. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Master, we’ve successfully downloaded their location into our GPS tracker. Their car will be arriving shortly," he informed him.

Childe answered smoothly, his voice as cold as steel. "Okay," he said and hung up the phone. He takes one more quick look at Annie. The stare lasts a moment longer, and some light flashes briefly, brightly in his narrow dark eyes. He swings back in his seat, hands grip the wheel, and he squints forward. Turning the key in the ignition, he stepped on the gas pedal, increasing his speed.

There’s a whistle coming faintly from far away. It was too far away for Annie to work out the direction, and she took a deep breath. "What was that?" Scared, Annie looked up quickly. She heard the squeal of tires before she saw the tiny silver car turn the corner and drive straight toward her. She stared blankly in front of Childe as if she were invisible. Yet, the man in the mask looked familiar to her. The hateful look in his eyes behind the mask he wore and the way his lips were locked shut. She felt slightly dizzy, and her heart started to beat out of control. Annie tried to take another deep breath to calm herself, but it didn’t work. "No, you’re going to hit me," she screamed and fell to the ground.

Childes’ eyes widened in shock. "This can’t be happening. Not now!" he shouted in disbelief. He seemed to be overwhelmed with emotion, he’d never felt before, and he suddenly jerked the steering wheel.

Annie looked up and watched as the car steered in a different direction. The tires made a harsh, gritty sound as they drove past her. The car roars down the road and less than twenty feet out, it veers to the left and crashes into the guardrail. Sparks flickered, followed by a loud crashing sound. Childe hit his head on the windshield, thick red blood gushed out of the wound, dazing him momentarily. He shakes his head a few times and gets out of the car. He quickly runs over to Annie. "Annie..." There’s hesitation in his voice. "Are you okay?"

Annie could barely talk. She was weak and in a lot of pain. She managed to mutter the words, "My pills.....I need......them...."

Childe couldn’t stop shaking. He panicked. "They’re right here. I’m not going anywhere," he said, taking out a pill and putting it under Annie’s tongue. Then he heard the sound of an engine approaching, a muffled, pulsing noise. "Oh no, she can’t see me," he said, knowing it was Edie. And he seemed suddenly nervous, brusque, his black eyes shrank. He looked at Annie, then to the car, trying to decide what to do. He slipped the bottle of pills in her hand, got up, and ran towards the car, and climbed in. With shaking hands, frazzled nerves, and a pounding heart, he turned the key and gave it gas. "It’s flooded," he said. After several attempts, it finally started, and he drove away.

"Master, the sniper, is in place," a voice crackled in the left ear of Childes’ headset. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"No!" Childe shouted. He then lowered his voice to a whispered tone. "The plans have been changed. Wait for my order."

"Yes, Sir!" he replied.

Ivan looked around in surprise and gasped when he saw someone lying in the middle of the road. "There’s been an accident," he said frantically.

"Stop....the car," Edie shouted. As the car pulled up beside the little girl, Edie’s entire body began to tremble. Her face was turning deathly pale. For a brief second, she stared as if in a trance. Edie and Ivan quickly got out of the car and went over to Annie. Annie reached out and said, "Help....me....please...." she was in so much pain, she could barely speak.

Annie was breathing hard, her face was pale, and her whole body was shaking. Edie could see the fear in her eyes. "Don’t be frightened. We’re going to take you to the hospital," Edie said, trying to reassure her. Ivan picked Annie up and cradled her in his arms, hoping that would help. But then her whole body began to twitch, and she clutched at him convulsively until she lost consciousness. Edie had noticed a bottle on the ground. She picked it up and looked at it. "Ivan, we have to hurry. I think these are hers, and if they are, she needs help and fast," Edie said. Ivan could hear the panic and fear in her voice. He nodded, put Annie in the back seat, and Edie sat with her until they arrived at the hospital.

Childe wasn’t far away, and he was hidden in a grove of trees. He raised his head, hands shaking as he sat waiting and watching them. "Get Annie to the hospital," he kept saying it over and over. He gripped the steering wheel so tight his knuckles turned white. "I’m sorry, Annie, but I know you will survive, and one day soon, I’ll take you home," he spoke with regret.

Childe was giving up, and he was no longer interested in revenge. His plan was to hit Annie in the car. Stuart was supposed to drive by and see her lying on the road. Stuart would have tried to save her. Then the sniper hidden in the mountains was to shoot him, but now everything has changed. Childe no longer had only himself to think about.
