Chapter 325: Chapter 325: I Will Face It With Her
"Sleeping?" Old Greg slammed his hand on his wheelchair arm. "She’s still sleeping at this time of day? This is ridiculous! Young people should discipline themselves. I’m going to wake her up!!"
When Old Greg was just about to knock on Edie’s door, Stuart stopped him. "Edie just got home from work this morning. She has been filming the past few days, let her sleep a little longer."
Old Greg sighed and shook his head. "You’re spoiling her." However, his expression clearly showed that he was pleased with Stuart. Then, Stuart took the place of Mr. Watson and pushed the wheelchair for Old Greg.
After they arrived downstairs, Stuart looked at the clock and realized that it’s nearly time for breakfast. He said to Old Greg, "Grandpa, if you need anything, just let the servants know. I have to cook breakfast." Then he put on his apron and went into the kitchen.
Old Greg looked at Mr. Sampson, who was standing beside him. "He can cook?" he asked, sounding surprised.
Mr. Sampson shook his head and had a big smile on his face. "Mrs. Yates loves Master’s cooking. So sometimes, the Master cooks for her," he explained.
Old Greg nodded his approval. "Good, you say! I bet he’s not as good as me when I was his age!"
Old Greg sat in front of the kitchen door and watched Stuart bustle about. He felt gratified by how well Stuart was taking care of Edie. It seemed that Stuart was indeed good to her. Old Greg was too old. He didn’t know how much longer he could protect Edie. After all, the person who could protect her and stay with her till the end was her husband.
Old Greg rolled his wheelchair forward and entered the kitchen. He asked while watching Stuart cook, "Hey, do you know what day it is in a few days’ time?"
Stuart answered calmly, "It’s her mother’s death anniversary."
"She told you?" Old Greg was a little surprised.
"No!" Stuart replied.
Old Greg understood at once. It seemed Stuart had already known about Edie’s past from having an investigation done. It looked like Stuart had already accepted Edie’s past, Old Greg finally put his mind at ease.
However, he still probed, "Do you know about all of Edie’s past?"
"I know everything that I should and should not know. Does that count as all?" Stuart turned around, and his wise eyes landed on Old Greg. The two of them gazed at each other, and they were surrounded by a strange atmosphere. It seemed to grow stifling and oppressive. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
Old Greg squinted his eyes, the light in his eyes was as sharp as blades. "You’re not afraid of ruining your family’s reputation?" he asked.
He looked at Stuart seriously. Old Greg wanted to catch the expression on his face.
Stuart’s expression was calm, but his eyes were firm and fearless. He made eye contact with Old Greg and said in a resolute voice, "No, if anything happens, I will face it with her."
"Good! This is what a man should take on! The responsibility to protect his woman!" Old Greg complimented him. Then his tone and eyes became serious, "Since you already know about Edie’s past, I have nothing to hide. It was fate that the two of you met. Although I felt guilty for what happened, there wasn’t anything I could do about it. I tried to make it up to her, but it looks like she doesn’t need any compensation as long as you’re with her."
"She does! She needs her identity! Edie’s the rightful daughter of the Greg family, not an unknown adopted daughter!" Stuart squinted his eyes dangerously, a terrifying light emitted from them.
His words shook old Greg’s heart. He pursed his dry lips and sneered at himself, "I’m indeed getting old. The Greg family owe both Edie and Ann an apology. It’s about time to tell the truth, and make it public." Old Greg shook his head, then sighed.
Edie, who was in the bedroom, woke up after a forty-minute nap. It was the best sleep she had recently. She closed her eyes for a second or two as she felt relieved at being home again. The clock said ten past ten - time to get moving. She didn’t want to get out of bed. Edie stretched and rolled over in the soft bed.
Suddenly her phone rang without thinking about who it was, and she answered the phone. "Hello," Edie said with a soft low voice.
Danny starts talking at once, making it hard for Edie to think. "What have you done? Are you trying to make trouble for yourself? What’s going on between you and Mr. Jackson?" he asked.
Edie had no idea what he was talking about. "I’m sorry, but I’m a little confused. What are you talking about?" she asked. ’Did Danny not tell me that Clyde didn’t like me? Why is suddenly asking me about our relationship? Maybe Clyde told Danny that I was his so-called fiancé.’ Edie wondered. She tensed up and almost started to cry.
"I almost forgot to ask you, did you faint yesterday?" Danny asked. His tone changed from anger to concern in a matter of seconds.
Danny’s mind seemed to make a great leap for some unknown reason. Edie had to tell him what happened yesterday. "I... I got my period and got soaked in the rain. I was told I was dehydrated. I’m fine now." The nervousness was revealed in her voice.
"Go look on the internet, Clyde’s fans are having a field day!" Danny ordered.
"What for? Because I fainted?" Edie was confused.
"No! It’s not because you fainted. It’s because Clyde took you to the hospital in his arms! His fans are going crazy." Danny paused and took a deep breath. "They’re all saying that you faked it because you wanted to hook up with him! Some of them even made a scene with the film crew!"
What!? What’s the matter with people these days? They have nothing better to do with their time. They have to make gossip about Clyde and me. They even went to the film crew? Or is it because Clyde is so popular?" Edie knew it was only a matter of time before Stuart found out. She was terrified at what he would say. She was in a complete daze. "What should I do?"
"The company is trying to work on a solution, and they haven’t been able to contact Clyde. His agent says he’s unaware of what’s been going on. I need to know the truth! Is there something going on between you two? Tell me, right now!!" Danny sounded angry.
"Of course there isn’t anything going on between us. Did you forget that I’m a married woman!" Edie quickly explained.
"Okay, I believe you. I’ll talk to the company and take care of it for you. You better stop filming for a while. I don’t know what will happen if you run into any of Clyde’s fans!" Danny said, sounding concerned.
Edie was starting to get a headache. "I only have a minor role in the play. I can’t hold up the filming process," she said.
"Let me tell you something! Never underestimate Clyde’s fans or any fans for that matter. They can be crazy! If you piss them off, they will do anything!" Danny’s voice grew serious.
"Do you want to know why celebrities don’t eat handmade cookies and soft drinks from their fans anymore? Because their fans have been known to put detergent and seccotine in the soft drinks and needles in the cookies! They are all lessons learned from past experiences!" Danny explained.
