Chapter 313: Chapter 313: Filming

Edie smiled. "How much I make is my business, Miss. Herring. I’m a hard worker, and maybe I don’t get paid enough. Then I look at all these lazy-workers who are overpaid relative to their productivity. Is that fair?" Edie asked. "You invested a lot of money in getting the role of Yvonne Patricia. How dare you criticize me!"

Vicky was angry and pointed her finger at Edie. "How dare you say that to me! Who do you think, you are?" she shouted hysterically.

Edie had a confused expression on her face. "What do you mean? It’s not true?" she asked.

Vicky knew the truth, and so did Edie. "I’m not going to talk about this anymore. Tell me! Will you give me your room or not?" she screamed as her face started getting redder and redder each second.

A satisfied grin appeared on Edie’s face. She said one word. "No." Then she walked past Vicky and hit the button to the elevator.

Vicky was outraged. Never in her life had she been treated in this manner. She stood there with a puzzled look. When she came to her senses, Edie was gone. There was no way that Vicky was going to let Edie get away with the way she treated her. She reached into her purse and grabbed her cell phone. Looking at the screen, Vicky hesitated for a moment and quickly dialed a number.

After a moment, someone answered the phone. "Hello!" His voice was deep, booming, and masculine, but his reply toward Vicky was cold.

She didn’t care about his attitude. Vicky was so caught in herself that she didn’t care about anyone else. "Clyde, someone is picking on me!" she said, speaking in a sympathetic tone. "You have to help me!"

Clyde was on break while recording a song, and He sounded impatient on the phone. "I’m sorry to hear that! Who would bully you?" he said perfunctorily.

"Edie Lara! That’s who!" Vicky exclaimed.

’Hmm... Edie’ Clyde became a little more interested in their conversation. He removed the headphones from his head and walked to the side. "What has she done to you?" he asked.

"Edie embarrassed me in front, Dolly, and when I came to the hotel, there weren’t any presidential suites available. I asked Edie if she would give me her room, but she very rudely told me "NO!" She also knows that I invested money into getting my role." Vicky paused, took a deep breath and continued. "It’s none of her business! I need to get her out of here before I lose my mind. Clyde, will you help me, please?"

Clyde was very familiar with Vicky’s behavior. She was not well-liked by very many people. He knew Vicky was the problem and not Edie. He held his phone from his ear. ’I can’t let her manipulate Edie. If it were anyone else...’ Clyde’s tone became cold again. "Vicky, you’re not home anymore. If you want to act so snobby, go back home to your father!"

Vicky was extremely annoyed by his tone and rudeness. But she wasn’t going to give up. "Clyde, please..."

"I’m busy! I have to go!" Clyde hung up the phone. His dark brown eyes narrowed in concentration. His lips curled into a faint smile. "Edie Lara, how interesting!" he said.

The filming started today, and for the first few scenes, Edie didn’t have any roles of great significance. It was mainly her going in and out of the room as the maid. Dolly did most of the acting. After a few days of filming, Edie realized how talented Dolly was. While watching her in action, she learned a lot from her.

Edie looked anxiously around the set. ’I wonder when Clyde will be here? His scene is coming soon!’ Noticing he hadn’t arrived yet, Edie immediately let out a sigh of relief.

On the fifth day of filming an incident happened. Minister Yale had a daughter named Sally. She and her childhood sweetheart were forbidden to be together because she was selected to serve in the Royal Palace for the emperor. She was to become a royal concubine, which meant she was going to be a mistress of the emperor.

Finally, it was one of Edie’s important roles in the film. She would be insulted by one of the emperor’s favorite concubines, Yetta. In the play, Mae was the maid of Sally, and she was going to be slapped across the face. Edie acted in scenes like these before, and to her, they were not a big deal. This time it was a little different because Geneva was playing the role of Yetta.

Yetta was the most beautiful woman in the palace. She was the emperor’s favorite for the first part of the drama. It was an important part of the play. Geneva was beautiful, but she lacked acting skills. The only reason she was able to get into the entertainment circle was because of her resources. When she received her role in the film, there was a lot of criticism about how and why she got the part.

Geneva contacted one of her friends of the North family in River State. She eventually had an affair with one of the sons of the family, and it was the son who helped Geneva get the audition and the part. This was also how she was first introduced to Vicky. This was extremely important to her because of the social status of the North family. She had to make a great impression.

Malloy made a comment about the scene, and Geneva interrupted, "Director, do I need to slap her or do you want me to.....?" She deliberately stopped in mid-sentence. She wanted the director’s reply to be "yes."

Vicky was on the bench, having a break. She looked at Edie and smirked. Salome Pamela, who was acting the part of Faye, said in a soft whisper, "I know it’s a movie, but does she really need to slap you?"

She said it in such a low voice that only Edie, who was sitting beside, could hear. Malloy looked from Edie to Geneva and politely said, "Yes, to get the true effect, I want it to be real!"

Malloy invested a lot of time and money into the movie. He wanted everything to be perfect. There were a few things he had to take into consideration, for example, Edie was a new actress, and Geneva’s acting skills were not the greatest. He wanted perfection and wasn’t going to waste any time in doing so. The film base cost a lot to rent daily. So every day spent on the scene meant more money that had to be spent. Malloy wanted it done as quickly as possible.

Malloy’s voice was gentle, but there was a note of firmness in his tone. The look in his eyes revealed it all. Edie nodded her head at Malloy and spoke softly, "Okay."

Geneva smiled. That was all she wanted to hear. "Filming can be hard sometimes. Last year, I had to jump in the water, and I nearly froze!"

"Ha, ha." The group laughed.

Salome looked at Edie. "I’m sorry! I wish there was something I could do!" she said, concern written all over her expressive face. freēwēbnovel.com

Edie was touched by Salome’s reaction. "Don’t worry! It’ll be fine!" Edie said, trying to reassure her. Salome also had a role as a maid, but she didn’t have as many parts as Edie. Edie smiled and gently rubbed her hand.
