Chapter 305: Chapter 305: I’m Feeling A Little Tired
He was waving the needle in the air, taunting her with it. Is this what you want? Come and get it! Come closer, babe," he said.
Marina looked directly towards the camera. She fixed her eyes on his hands. Marina’s cheeks were flushed, and her eyes looked strange, wide, and even more like an animal’s. They revealed nothing but emptiness and there was no life in them. "Give it to me.....the drug...I badly need it, give it to me..." She could barely utter the words. And her entire body was shivering.
As the voice called her, she swiveled towards him. He was slowly moving step by step. There was a pair of strong skinny arms reaching out to Marina. "It’s right here! Come and get it, Come... come closer!" he said. "But if you want it, you have to pick it up yourself." His voice was teasing and frivolous. Then the drug was thrown into the ocean.
Edie screamed, "No, don’t..." She knew there wasn’t anything she could do to change the past. Without hesitation, Marina jumped into the ocean. The waves swallowed her, and she was gone. Her body drifted into the sea.
The man bursts into crazy laughter, "She got what she deserved." He stopped, and there was dead silence.
Edie stared at the camera and couldn’t move. She was paralyzed, barely able to breathe. She couldn’t get Marina’s face out of her mind. Marina had lost all sense of reality. Then Edie remembered what Jason told her about the nightmares that Stuart had after the accident. After seeing the video, she couldn’t imagine what he had gone through.
Edie muttered to the screen, "This is what Aaron did to Marina. How could he be so cruel?" Shaking her head, she shivered. "This is a warning. If I don’t do what he wants, I will end up like Marina." It was at that moment, and she realized why Aaron showed her the video. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
The driver got back in the car and started to complain. "That son of a bitch. I tried to make a settlement with him, and he resisted. The minute he found out the car was Mr. Yates, he tripled the price." He looked at Edie’s face. It looked lifeless, pale as a ghost. "Mrs. Yates, what’s wrong? What happened, are you hurt," he asked.
Edie’s face was getting sweaty, certainly not from the heat in the air-conditioned car. Beads and beads of sweat were dripping down her brow. "I’m all.....all right," Edie’s voice was trembling.
The driver looked at her with concern. ’If anything were to happen to Mrs. Yates..’ he didn’t even want to think about it. "You look so pale. Maybe, I should take you to the hospital and get you checked out? It’s not very far from here."
Edie put her hands in the air and motioned for the driver to go. "No, just take me. I promised them I would be there and I’m going." Edie closed her eyes and the video kept replaying over and over in her mind. ’Aaron showed me the video to scare me. If he knows I’m scared, then he’s won.’ Then she remembered the promise that she and Stuart made to one another to trust one another. As soon as she got home, Edie decided she was going to tell Stuart. ’Stuart will know what to do,’ Edie thought to try to comfort herself. ’I don’t want to die... I’m afraid...’ Sitting in the back of the car, she tried to sort out her thoughts. ’Death is a natural event, the fate of all living things. All living things eventually die.’ She was scared and trembling. It was as though Marina’s pain was her own. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Edie realized that if Aaron sent her the video when he knew she was in the car alone. Therefore, he was watching her. Fear spread across her whole body, and she took a deep breath. She shivered. ’If Aaron wants to hurt me, there’s no way I can escape it. Stuart can’t be with me twenty-four hours a day to protect me.’
"We’re here, Mrs. Yates." As if being woken up from a dream, she jumped at the sound of the driver’s voice. "Are you sure you don’t want me to take you to the hospital? You don’t look very good."
She was taking a few more deep breaths trying to calm herself down. "No! Really I’m fine. Are you picking me up when it’s finished?" Edie asked.
"Of course. That’s my job. I’ll be in the underground parking lot waiting for you," he said.
"Thank you!" Edie said and got out of the car. It was sunny and warm outside, but Edie felt a chill in the air. "Is Aaron watching me right now?" she mumbled. She looked around and lost all courage to take a step forward.
"Edie..." A familiar voice was calling her name. Edie turned around, and it was Queenie. It had been so long since they’d seen each other.
Edie smiled and said, "I’ve missed you! It’s been too long!"
Queenie walked towards her, holding her arms out. She gave Edie a hug. "Yes, I’ve wanted to ask you out for dinner, but I’ve been so busy. I had some business in Canada, and it took longer than expected."
"All that matters is that you’re here now!" Edie said in a low voice.
Queenie stepped back to take a look at Edie. Seeing the expression on her face, Queenie froze for a second. She was staring at her. "Edie, what’s wrong? You’re so pale. Are you sick?"
Edie smiled and shook her head, "No....I’m feeling a little tired...."
Queenie hesitated, looking at Edie again. Immediately, she knew Edie didn’t tell the truth. She took Edie’s hand in hers and said, "Whatever you need, all you have to do is ask! Okay?"
Edie was touched by what Queenie said, but she didn’t want to get her involved. "Thank you! That means a lot to me."
Then they walked together inside to the makeup room.
