Chapter 304: Chapter 304: She Is So Jealous

Stuart hung up the phone and asked Edie if she would like to watch a movie. Edie sat on the sofa, holding her chin in one hand, staring at him with her big green eyes. He had no idea what she was thinking. "No, I’m not in the mood," Edie said quietly.

"What’s wrong?" Stuart asked as he lowered his voice.

Edie couldn’t stop thinking about what she and Anna talked about yesterday. She never expected that she would leave so soon. "Anna’s gone?" Edie sounded sad.

Stuart showed no emotion. "Yes, I know! But what I don’t understand is why you look so sad?" he asked.

"Could you not tell by the tone in her voice that she was sad? What’s wrong with you? If she heard you what you were saying right now, Anna would cry," Edie responded.

Stuart threw his hands in the air and said, "I said goodbye. I don’t understand why you’re so upset?"

"Stuart, are you stupid? You must’ve known that Anna has been in love with you all this time!" Edie couldn’t look at him, and she was so angry.

"I don’t understand? I thought you of all people would be happy that she’s gone?" The tone in his voice grew louder.

"Why do you have to be so cold and unaffectionate? Anna has loved you for so many years. She’s leaving, and all she wanted was to see you in person and say goodbye. But no, you say to her that I will go to your place. How do you think that made her feel?" Edie tried to gather the words to explain how mean he treated Anna. All she wanted to be was for Stuart to understand.

Stuart frowned at Edie’s inexplicable change of manner, "You are angry? Why? Jason told me that women hate it when men flirt with other women. What did I do wrong?" Stuart asked again.

Edie glared at him and said as loud as she could, "Answer my question??"

The atmosphere in the living room became tense. The servants overheard their conversation and hid in the back room, trying to stay out of their way. There was a prolonged silence in the room. Whenever Edie thought about what Stuart did to Anna, she couldn’t help but shudder.

Stuart finally spoke, "Yes, I’ve always known that she loved me. I didn’t want to say anything to her because I never wanted to embarrass her. That’s why I never showed any emotion toward her. I didn’t want to give Anna any hope. I don’t want to go and say goodbye because that will only give her hope. I want her to move on and find someone else to love." Stuart paused, touched Edie’s hand. "Love is forever. When you love someone, are you supposed to mess around with other women or men? I didn’t want to lead Anna on because I didn’t want you to think there was something going on between Anna and myself. So, tell me! Did I do something wrong?" freēwebnovel.com

The room stilled yet again, and Edie felt a tightening around her heart and a tremble move through her body. She shook her head as she touched her hand to his chest and felt his strong, heavy heart beating. Edie whispered, "No, you were not wrong. Being with you is like a dream. One that I never want to wake up from. But what happens if one day I want to leave? Will you let me go as easily as you let Anna go?"

Stuart put his fingers into her hair and kissed her. His hands tightened around her, and he held her as close as he could. "No, I will never let you go, and I will never ever leave you." The words were spoken with such measured firmness. It was like he was making an oath.

Edie closed her eyes and curled up next to him. Undoubtedly, they were deeply in love with one another. They both knew what they shared was rare. Yet! Instead of being happy, Edie had a bad feeling that something terrible was going to happen, and she couldn’t shake the feeling. Edie tried to swallow the emotions and buried her face against Stuart’s chest.

"White Lovers" was to be aired soon, and the director called Edie in advance to join the cast members to promote the movie on Wednesday night. This was an extraordinary cost-effective method of getting free advertising and publicity for the movie.

Wednesday night came quickly. Stuart sent for the driver, and Edie sat in the back seat. She was both excited and nervous about the event. As the limo pulled out of the driveway, Edie went on her iPhone to check out what the social media was saying about the "White Lovers."

There was a sudden bump, a scraping sound. Edie’s head jerked forward and then slammed back against the seat, her breath shattering in her chest. The driver panicked and quickly apologized, "Mrs. Yates, Please forgive, but I didn’t notice the other car..."

Edie shook her head in an effort to clear the blood pounding in her ears and took a deep breath as she looked through the window. "It’s not your fault. Do you know what happened?"

The man in the other car got out and started shouting at the driver. The driver immediately opened his door to talk to the man and deal with the situation. Edie looked down at her phone, and the screen was black. ’Oh, is it broke?’ Edie wondered. Then suddenly, a skull appeared. Edie gasped, "What’s going on?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Edie started to shake her phone, and a video started playing. It had a voice changer that made the voice sound twisted and harsh. "My darling, why are you so disobedient? I took you away from Stuart because I was a lonely man. I hated watching you two get closer and closer. Do you remember what I said? The game is only getting started. As long as I am alive, the game will never end." He gave an uneasy sounding laugh.

Edie took a deep breath thinking the video was over, and suddenly another one started. From the quality of the picture, it was quite old. There was a young girl dressed in ragged clothes standing on a boat. Her fair skin was covered in bruises. It was obvious that she’d been tortured. The girl looked up at the man revealing his sly face to her and staring at him with empty eyes. Edie gasped the moment she saw the girls face. "This girl looks exactly like Hicks’. Edie immediately knew who it was. It’s Marina! This video was recorded right before she died!" Edie held her breath, and her mind went blank.

The sea breeze blew her long black hair. This was Marina right before she was murdered. "Give me the medicine," Marina said. Her voice was barely audible.

A playful male voice replied, "Is this what you want?"
