Chapter 277: Chapter 277: Leave Him Alone

Jason was still worried, but he was more concerned about Stuart more so than Eddie. Jason knew how much Stuart loved Eddie. Therefore, he didn’t know what Stuart was capable of doing to Aaron.

Jason had tried calling Stuart and Mr. Bates, but neither one of them answered. So all he could do is sit around and wait to find out what happened between Stuart and Aaron. Jason had a feeling that no matter what happened, Stuart would come back and be with Eddie.

Finally, he heard the sound of someone walking in the corridor. Jason immediately raised his head. Stuart’s body was soaked in blood and rain. He walked towards the ward, followed by Ivan and Mr. Bates.

Stuart’s arm and his hands looked quite severe. Blood and water were dripping from his fingers. Jason immediately stood up and was frightened by Stuart’s appearance.

"Are you okay? What happened to you?"

Before he could finish, Stuart rushed into the ward.

"Stuart...." Jason called out and started to go in with Stuart, but Mr. Bates stopped him.

"What happened to him?" Jason asked him.

Mr. Bates briefly explained, "He needs to be with his wife for a while. Leave him alone. Wait here until he’s ready."

Mr. Bates was the man who had been with Stuart since he was born. He was the one who knew Stuart the most. Under such a condition, everyone could only follow his advice. Jason nodded, and he waited outside the ward.

Mr. Bates walked into the ward and then closed the door. In the room, Stuart stood at a distance away from the bed.

"Mr. Bates, have I made a mistake?" Stuart asked in a bitter voice.

Mr. Bates smiled tenderly, "You ask as though you already have the answer. Do you have any regrets? You could have killed him. You were strangling him and about to throw Aaron over the balcony."

While Stuart looked at Eddie lying on the bed, his hands were trembling. He raised his hand to touch Eddie, but then he put it down. Stuart’s hands were covered in blood, and he didn’t want it to get all over her.

"Is it.....is it my fault?" It was the first time he didn’t have an answer.

"If I never met Eddie, then she wouldn’t have been involved in all of this. She would be living a simple life right now. Eddie could do whatever she wanted without having to worry. Though she may not have much money at least, she wouldn’t be in any danger. Now, she is married to me, and I can’t protect her. It seems like I am constantly putting her into danger, over and over again."

"Stuart, I believe only Eddie can answer these questions."

Stuart’s voice was trembling, "You know what? She wanted to divorce me yesterday. I realized I could find no reason to keep her with me. The only thing I can give her is an endless danger. For the first time, I don’t know how to handle this problem. So I tried to avoid thinking about it. I indulged myself in my work, but I never expected that it would lead to such a situation...I almost got her killed. If Jason arrived only a few minutes later, then she may have been dead."

Stuart was going crazy with all these thoughts of Eddie. He didn’t have any answers and had no way of protecting her from danger. Stuart felt useless to Eddie.

It was for this reason as to why he wanted to kill Aaron. If Aaron only targeted him, there was nothing that could scare him. But when it came to Eddie, who was so delicate and fragile, he always became anxious and worried.

Seeing the sadness on his face, Mr. Bates was surprised to see Stuart looking like an average man. He had never seen Stuart look this way in all the years that he had known him. All Stuart wanted was to protect the woman he loved. Before, Mr. Bates always worried that Stuart was too cold and indifferent. At this moment, when seeing him look like this, he felt gratified.

"Stuart, what about Marina?"

"You know this had gone on for a long time." freewebnovёl.ƈom

Mr. Bates nodded, "I agree. You never stopped searching for Marina after all these years. I know you did this out of your sense of responsibility. But I don’t think you have really let it go. You feel as though it was all your fault. So, seeing Eddie being hurt, you automatically think about what happened to Marina. Therefore you felt more guilty."

"The guilt has been doubled. This would ruin your confidence when you’re trapped by this feeling. You don’t believe that you can protect the woman you love. You also don’t believe that you have the right to be in love."

As soon as Mr. Bates finished, Stuart’s lips compressed into a thin line, "Yes, it is true. What happened in the past did indeed crush me. The psychologist tried to explain the reason why I hated being approached by women. It was because of my sense of responsibility. Therefore, I kept resisting women because they were so delicate and fragile. Marina’s death worsened my problems. Therefore, over the past ten years, I have been resisting women. But when I met Eddie, my love for her helped me overcome my mental problem," Stuart took a deep breath and sighed.

"Would she.....forgive me?" Stuart found it hard to say these words.

Mr. Bates said, "Stuart, Marina’s death was not your fault. You were only seventeen years old at the time. But now, you can do a lot to protect Eddie. You don’t have to blame yourself anymore. When she wakes up, you need to talk to her and ask her how she feels."

After quite some time, Stuart finally nodded.

"Stuart, you need to go and get your wound checked by the doctor. The smell of the blood may disturb Eddie."

Mr. Bates knew that Stuart wanted to stay with Eddie. So he used this as an excuse to get Stuart to leave and get his wound looked after. As expected, hearing that he might interfere with Eddie’s sleep, he agreed.

At the moment, Stuart was no longer the rightful heir of the Yates, nor the CEO of the L.N Group. He was no more than a man worrying about his wife.

Out of the room, Stuart’s personal doctor had been waiting for Stuart for quite a while. When seeing him walking out, he treated his wounds immediately.
