Aaron left, leaving Eddie alone on the beach. She sat on the sand, shivering and stunned, staring out at sea. She faced the ocean, and a cool breeze touched her cheeks. Eddie couldn’t understand anything, think of nothing, and felt nothing. She was numb inside.

Scarlet nodded and helped Eddie stand up and took her to the car. Eddie had been exposed to the sunlight for quite some time. So, when she got in the car and with the air-conditioning on, her whole body started to shiver. Immediately Scarlet grabbed a blanket and covered Eddie.

Eddie gradually calmed herself down. She raised her head and asked Jason, "All that you told me before, is it really true?"

Eddie meant what Jason had told her on the phone. Hearing her trembling voice, Jason looked at her in the rear-view mirror. Eddie seemed so fragile and pale, quivering in Scarlet’s arms. Jason knew Eddie had endured a horrible ordeal under the hands of such an abusive man, but he still didn’t know why Aaron didn’t touch her.

Jason looked at her again, and he could see the fear in her eyes. He sighed inside, "This was the secret that Stuart didn’t want to tell her. Some secrets need to be buried because they are too ugly."

Jason lowered his voice and spoke to Eddie, "Yes, it is. Stuart didn’t want to tell you because he didn’t think you could handle it right now."
