Chapter 213: Chapter 213: Stuart Came

Eddie was a little startled to find out that it was only water in the bottle as they did not tell her that they were using a prop for the audition. She pretended that she didn’t notice and looked expectantly at the mist in the air.

Then the expression in her eyes became excited with visible happiness and delight because of the fragrance of the perfume. She closed her eyes and took a couple of deep breaths. A slow smile worked its way across her face and into her eyes.

She slowly walked through the midst of the perfume letting it fall on her face. Eddie was doing such a good job because one of the interviewers was wondering if there was something wrong with her as he could not smell the perfume. Eddie stood there for a few seconds inhaling the fragrance, and then the atmosphere in the room changed.

She lowered her head and said, "Thank you for giving me the chance to audition."

There was a brief silence throughout the room before anyone said anything. Mr. Mayfield interrupted the silence with a cough, "What did you say your name was?"

Considering that Mr. Mayfield was a foreigner, Eddie slowly talked so he could understand her and repeated her name, "My name is Eddie."

Mr. Mayfield nodded in delight, repeating in less-than-standard Chinese, "Eddie."

The seven interviewers in front of her were all fashion industry designers. Every one of them showed a solemn expression on their face, and Eddie had no idea if they were satisfied with her performance. She was supposed to spray the perfume on her wrists, but Eddie thought she would be adventurous and spray it in the air instead.

"Thank you, Eddie. You will be informed of the results of the audition by a text message. You may leave now."

Finally, the silence broke by one of the men who was sitting at the table. Eddie nodded and lowered her head again and left the room. As soon as the door closed, Mr. Mayfield got a little excited and said, "I like this woman! She is very natural and suits this kind of perfume!"

"I feel good about her, too," a woman’s voice echoed in the room.

"There’s still a lot of women who still have to audition, so let’s not make a decision yet," Director Leach said.

After receiving Annie Johns’ money, Director Leach could not give Annie the role for this audition. Even though he was ashamed of Annie, for some reason, he did not like Eddie. After listening to what Director Leach had to say, Mr. Mayfield calmed down, nudged his glasses further up the bridge of his nose, shrugged his shoulders and said, "Okay!"

The next person to audition was Hicks. She was not as experienced as Eddie, and she walked stiffly to the room, nodded to the people at the table. She glanced shyly at them out of the corners of her eyes.

After watching Eddie’s performance and now seeing Hick’s, Mr. Mayfield had a look of disappointment on his face. He didn’t seem to think much of Hick’s. The man repeated what he had told Eddie when she walked into the room, "The girl who used perfume for the first time..."

Hicks nodded and let out a sigh of relief. Then she took a deep breath and began her performance. Hick took the perfume bottle from the table, sprayed it lightly on her wrist, and lowered her head to sniff it. Then with a notable pause, she gave them a soft, appealing look and smiled.

Hick’s performance seemed to go smoothly. The effect was devastating, but Mr. Mayfield glanced at the list and put a mark through her name and said, "Thank you. You may leave now. Your audition is done."

At the end of the performance, Hicks reverted to her shy and gentle manner. Then Mr. Mayfield said, "You will be informed of the results by a text message. Okay, you can leave now."

After the audition, Eddie started to walk out with Gould. They were headed towards the elevator when Gould’s eyes inadvertently turned to look out the window. Eddie saw him looking, and then she glanced out the window. She saw a familiar handsome man, "Why was Stuart here?"

Eddie’s heart thumped heavily with excitement. Thinking of his usual style, she assumed he must have known she was auditioning here and came to pick her up. A pleased smile was on her lips, and Eddie’s pace quickened as she trotted towards the elevator.

The floor of the building was slippery, and Eddie was in such a hurry to greet Stuart that she slipped and sprained her ankle. Gould immediately stepped forward to help her. Eddie instantly looked out the window again.

This time she noticed that Stuart didn’t come alone. He was walking fast, but there was a woman behind him who was in high heels trying to keep up with him. It was from Anna Joyce.

"Eddie, are you all right?"

Eddie stared at the two of them with a confused look on her face, and Gould asked anxiously, but Eddie wasn’t in the right frame of mind and could not hear him. She couldn’t figure out why Stuart would come here with Anna.

Eddie had already explained the situation about Anna to Stuart. How could he still be so close to her? Right at that moment, while Eddie was watching, Anna lost her balance and fell into Stuart. Eddie was so far away that she could not see Stuart’s expression, but she could see him reaching for Anna’s shoulder.
