Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Is It Karma?
Todd and Queenie went out of the nightclub quickly. They came to the parking lot. His car was red, and when he unlocked the door, he went to sit in the driver’s seat.
Queenie stopped him, "You want to drive? You have been drinking wine, have you not?" Staring at her, he smiled. Todd stopped and leaned against the car, "Can you drive?"
"Yes, but I haven’t driven a lot."
After graduating from high school, she got her license. She didn’t have the opportunity to drive much, as that was when things started to go badly with her family. She didn’t have the time to drive anymore.
Hearing her answer, Todd threw the keys to Queenie, "Okay, then you drive."
Queenie was a little surprised as she had no idea what kind of man he was.
"I really haven’t had a lot of practice."
He brought his face as close to hers as he could and said, "Drive. My life is in your hands."
Seeing her face in his slender eyes, Queenie could feel her heart beating faster and faster. Maybe it only requires a second for one to fall in love. Queenie realized that Todd was the kind of man who enjoyed the excitement, she thought that evening she had fallen in love with him.
Todd brought her back to one of his apartments, and in the end, they had sex. Queenie was willing to do it. It was her who took the initiative. Compared to that fat Mr. Norton, she preferred to give her virginity to Todd. In the end, he was the one she fell in love with.
The next morning, when she woke up, she found an amount of money on the bed stand. The shy smile on her face disappeared. In reality, there was no such thing called romance.
In his mind, she was just a prostitute. She was no more than that. Suddenly, the phone rang, and Queenie awakened from her dream. Then she realized the cigarette had already burned out. She threw it away and reached for her phone. Her face softened, looking at the name reflected on her phone, "Evan."
"Good morning, mommy," the baby, on the other end, sounded quite young. It was morning in China. She assumed Evan just got up and was preparing for school.
"Good morning, baby. Have you eaten breakfast?"
"Yeah, Aunt Amy cooked eggs for me."
"Great, are you behaving in school?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
He hesitated and said, "Mommy, could I come to visit you?"
Queenie was heartbroken, and she tried to smile, "I am swamped here. Could you wait for a couple of days? After I am finished here, I will take you on vacation."
Evan had heard many of her excuses, and when he heard her say this to him again. He sighed with disappointment. Though Queenie felt sorry for him, she had no choice. She could not allow him to come back. She was worried that he would be late for school, so she said, "Be a good boy at school today, okay?"
"All right, bye, mommy."
"Bye. Love you, baby."
As she hung up the phone, Queenie felt really sad. She tried not to think about her son, but she missed him so much. She wiped away her tears and walked into the bathroom.
Meanwhile, it was sunny in France. In the top personal hospital. Mr. Bates was standing at the door of the VIP ward, and suddenly, his phone rang. Taking his phone out, Mr. Bates saw the number on the screen. He began to breathe heavily and rapidly, and his lower lip trembled.
"Good morning, Madam."
"I want to know everything about what has been going on." The middle-aged woman sounded cold and majestic, just like Stuart. Realizing that he could not hide anything from her, Mr. Bates sighed.
"Second young master lured young master into the sea. The yacht crashed into some rocks and Young master got a severe wound on his head. He lost consciousness."
To avoid the old lady from getting confused, Mr. Bates did not mention a word about Edie.
After hearing his report, the old lady hammered a cold voice, "Why didn’t you tell me as soon as it happened?"
"Before losing consciousness, the young master ordered us not to tell you. He knew that you would be concerned about him."
The phone went silent, the only thing that Mr. Bates could hear was the breathing on the other end. She did not believe that he was telling her the truth. She assumed her son was hiding from her and afraid that she might find out. She gave up asking him questions and changed the topic,
"What’s his condition?"
"We called the best doctor and he says his condition is stabilized. We are just waiting for him to wake up."
Hearing this, the old lady felt lost. Her son was never close to her. Even when he fell down, he did not want her to visit him.
"I want to see that girl."
Hearing this, Mr. Bates froze instantly. He felt something terrible, "Madam means....."
"Edie is her name, right?" The old lady said, peacefully, with a trace of sorrow.
Mr. Bates knew that Stuart always wanted to keep this secret from his mother. But now, he was afraid that the old lady must know something. That was why she called him to question him.
But the old lady did not sound angry, "Since Stuart chose her, then canceled the marriage with the Greg’s. Lower three points on the contract with them and do whatever you can to make up for it with the Greg’s."
Mr. Bates answered respectfully and cautiously, "Yes."
After hanging up the phone, the old lady massaged her forehead. Her eyes got a little dim as she recalled something before. Suddenly, someone served her a cup of black tea, "You are not making up for the Greg’s. You did this for her baby, right?"
Hearing someone from behind her that was reading her mind, the old lady looked more depressed.
"Yes, that girl would not be so miserable if we were not so selfish at the time. I never expected that many years later, my son would marry her daughter. Is it karma?"
The middle-aged man standing beside her had a European face. Every movement of his looked elegant and mature. He was her secretary, Bayer. He had been with her for many years.
"They have been gone for multiple years. It is time to let them go. What we should do is seize the opportunity."
Bayer sounded smart and gentle. His voice could ease others’ nerves.
"Yes, it’s our history, but we have hurt that child very deeply. It is too late to do anything to make it up to her," the old lady sighed and took a sip of black tea. Bayer was still standing beside her and never moved his eyes.
