Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Am I that Good?
Rhonda was quite satisfied after seeing the director’s reaction, "See, I am not the only one that was deeply moved by your acting." Edie put her hand on her forehead and said, "Am I that good?"
"Yes. I saw many others wiping their tears. You are going to become extremely famous after this film hits the theatres."
Edie smiled, and she did not take her seriously. She knew, in this industry, if she got her hopes up too quickly, it would only fail in the end. The scenes that followed went smoothly. Several of the staff were unhappy because of Edie taking a leave, and it had delayed the shooting of the production.
As Edie was feeling much better, it didn’t take long, and they were all caught up. "Miss Lara, you acting today was excellent."
"Yes, I have to agree. I got a teary-eyed myself."
"You know what you are doing. You handled everything so well and so quickly after your recovery."
Sophia asked the director if she could leave, "I have something to do this afternoon. Would you mind if I leave for a couple of hours?"
When Edie returned today, She was under a lot of pressure. The director wanted to try his best to get everyone caught up, "What? Can it not wait until after you finished working? You are behind several scenes."
Sophia felt a little embarrassed and lowered her head, "Director Lane, today is my FRIEND’S birthday. I have to attend." She emphasized the word "friend."
The director had a frown on his face and wanted to ask who. He suddenly remembered something. Sophia was acting a little off today. She had gotten a part in this film because of someone who had influence, and he had invested a substantial amount of money into the play. Therefore, maybe her friend was.
The director lowered his voice, "Mr. Anderson?" Sophia smiled, "Yes." There was no way that he could offend this man. Now, he had to give her permission to leave.
The director looked angry, but he waved his hands and permitted Sophia to leave. Then he asked one of the staff members to call the production manager to discuss the scenes tonight.
He looked at Sophia as she was walking away and said in a low voice, "With you two involved in my play, it will be ruined." He sighed as there was nothing he could do.
Luckily, Edie didn’t ask for leave today. With many scenes to finish, Edie had to work overtime. When she was finally done, it was eleven o’clock in the evening. It was dark outside now, and the filming spot was far away from the hotel where Edie was staying. So, the director asked someone to send for Edie.
Sitting in the car, Edie kept staring at the phone that was in her hand. Every night before, Stuart finished his work, he would call her. But not tonight, she did not receive any message from him. She tightened the grip on her phone, and there was an aching emptiness in her heart.
He is such an overbearing man, and he wasn’t concerned about her. Why can’t she forget about him?
"Edie, what are you thinking about?" Rhonda asked as she could see how pale Edie’s face looked. Edie lowered her head and tried to hide the tears in her eyes, "nothing, I was just thinking about the play."
"You are really devoted to your career. No wonder you are so good."
After arriving at the hotel, it was quite late. Edie asked Rhoda if she would mind if she went back to her room to rest. Then she entered the elevator alone. As she walked out of the elevator, she saw someone leaning against the wall by her door.
She noticed a red light shining, and she automatically assumed that whoever it was had been smoking. "Who’s there?" she called out. Then, her heart started beating faster and faster. Was it Stuart?"
Then, the person walked out of the shadow. "Queenie," She was not the one she was expecting, and Edie felt slightly disappointed. Feeling a little confused, she asked, "It’s quite late. Why are you standing here?"
Queenie was staying in the room next to Edie’s. Queenie smiled and started to explain, "I went downstairs to buy a package of cigarettes, but I forgot my room card. So I am waiting for Peach to get back." After she heard her explanation, she was quite shocked to find out that Queenie smoked.
Queenie looked young, but without any makeup on her face, she looked pale. It was as though at that moment, Edie could see the pain in her eyes. She opened her door and said to Queenie, "It may take some time before Peach gets back. Why don’t you come inside and wait for her?" She hesitated, nodded, and then walked into her room.
Before entering, she put her cigar out on the floor, "It’s okay if you want to smoke." Queenie shook her head, "Actually, I don’t smoke very often, only when I am a little stressed, and I’m not feeling the greatest today." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
She had quit smoking about three years ago. In the beginning, she thought it was cool. Then after meeting that special guy, she was forbidden to smoke altogether. From then on, she never smokes again until after they broke up.
Today seemed to be one of those days where she had some sort of feeling and felt the need to have a cigarette. She wasn’t sure why, but she just wasn’t herself. So to try and get rid of the feelings that she had suppressed inside her, she decided to smoke.
She had sincerely wished that the man who was in her life a long time ago would appear in front of her and angrily take the cigarette from her mouth. But this was only a fantasy because she knew he would never look in her life again.
She shook her head as if trying to shake herself out of a daze. She didn’t want to remember the memories, but they relentlessly pushed their way in. Smiling sadly, she said to Edie, "It’s been a long day." Sitting across from Queenie, Edie nodded in agreement, "Yes, I am absolutely exhausted after filming today."
Queenie knew the feeling, and she nodded too, "Everyone thinks we wear gorgeous clothes and earn lots of money. But no one knows what we actually go through. Reciting the lines, analyzing the role, shooting over and over again, wear out-of-season clothes. It keeps torturing us both physically and mentally. That is why people in the entertainment industry can’t really experience the excitement. We are under too much pressure."
