Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Gossip Spreading

After listening to what Edie had to say and seeing the expression on her face, Ivan felt quite guilty. But he had no choice. On their way to the vacation villa, they did not say another word to one another and rode in silence. On arrival at the filming spot, Edie got out of the car without saying a word to him.

Rhoda waited for her at the door. Seeing Edie, she walked towards her immediately.

"Edie, are you all right?"

Stuart had called Director Lane and asked for some time off for her because she was sick. Edie paused and then remembered what he had done, "I am all right. What’s been going on? Have I missed anything important?"

Hesitating, Rhoda looked around first to ensure that there was no one around. Then, she said in a low voice, "There’s been quite a bit of gossip spreading."

"Tell me. What is everyone saying?"

Rhoda lowered her voice to whisper in Edie’s ear, "Everyone has been saying that Queenie was bullying Sophia."

Edie was shocked when he heard this, "How is that even possible? Queenie is too kind, and she would never bully anyone."

She had not known Queenie for very long, but she could tell she was a very compassionate woman. She had a relaxed temperament. Even in front of Zoe Anna, who she hated, she chose to ignore her and never made things difficult for her.

Sophia was just a freshman here and could not be compared to Queenie. If Queenie were to bully her, it would give her a bad image.

"The day before yesterday, it seemed that they quarreled the rest area. Sophia ran out, crying, and then she asked to leave in the afternoon."

Rhoda shook her head immediately, "I promise I will not say anything to anyone. I have worked with you for several years, and I respect both you and Queenie. I just wanted you to know because I knew that you and Queenie were friends."

Edie and Rhonda arrived at the filming spot and were greeted by director Lane; although she had taken some time off and slowed the process of the film, he still maintained his politeness, expressing his concern about her physical condition.

"Edie, if you are still not feeling well, take your time and get all the rest you need. After all, your health is essential."

Edie smiled, "Thanks for your concern. I am feeling fine now."

"Perfect, I don’t want there to be any misunderstanding with Mr. Yates. I want him to know that I never asked you to come back and that it was his own decision," he then breathed a sigh of relief, and a faint smile appeared.

After the director mentioned Stuart’s name Edie’s smile quickly disappeared. She said as politely as she could, "Excuse me, director Lane, I should go get my makeup done and get dressed. It will soon be time for my part."

Then she walked into the makeup room and closed the door. Now there was not a smile on her face, but a look of disappointment. Why could she not get rid of Stuart Yates?

He never cared about her and never told her anything. Why was he still worried about her, and why couldn’t she stop thinking about him?

As soon as she walked into the room, the costume assistant instantly looked up and said hi, "You look thinner since the last time I saw you." She closed her eyes, and a sense of profound sadness was depicted on her face, "Do I?"

"Miss Lara, don’t you worry. I will not tell anyone. All the other actresses have tried hard to lose weight to make themselves look better. I know you are going through a tough time right now."

Edie didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Is she losing weight? If only that were all she had to worry about. She was under a lot of pressure, both mentally and physically, and it was normal that she may lose some weight.

While they were talking, someone opened the door. Edie was getting her false eyelashes put on and couldn’t see who it was. All she heard was the assistant say, "Good morning, Miss Brown."

"Morning, Mrs. Martha."

Sophia replied in a soft voice as she walked towards them. She instantly noticed Edie and said in surprise, "Edie, when did you get back? I had no idea you would be back so soon."

Edie felt a little uncomfortable around her. Did she have to tell her everything? She replied politely, "I just got back." Sophia sat down beside her, "Edie, you can finish, there’s no need to rush."

Sophia was quite talkative, "Are you feeling better?"

"Yes, I feel much better. Thanks for your concern."

Right at that exact moment, the assistant had finished putting her lashes on, and Edie looked directing into Sophia’s eyes, "Who told you that I had a boyfriend?"

Edie didn’t feel any guilt in asking this question because she did not have a boyfriend; she had a husband. Edie responded to her problems with a glare. Sophia looked back at her with frightening imploring eyes, "I...I just heard some people talking. I didn’t know if it was true or not. You are such a gorgeous woman, and you must have numerous men chasing after you."

Have you heard from others? Who? Edie wondered. Just as Edie was about to ask her who had been talking about her, someone opened the door.

"Mrs. Martha, Mrs. Wolf, is sick today. Can you take her role?" Queenie was walking towards her while she asked and right at that very moment she stopped and saw Sophie. As the leading actresses and actors have a lot of scenes, they were continuously changing costumes. Today, Queenie’s costume assistant was sick, so she came in to ask for help.

She looked around at all the people in the makeup room and fixed her eyes on Sophia and said calmly, "Oh, you have so many people in here. Perhaps I should go look for someone else?"

Sophia suddenly stood up and timidly said, "Queenie, you can stay here. I should be the one that has to wait."

Then, she grabbed her purse quickly and started to walk out. It looked quite clear that she was frightened by Queenie. Just as she was about to leave the room, a wry smile tugged at the corner of Queenie’s mouth, "All right, since you have offered. It would be rude of me if I refused."

Then, she sat down directly.
