Chapter 101: Chapter 101: She Felt His Big Hand
Edie saw his expression; he wanted to speak but couldn’t. It was as though she understood him.
"Don’t worry, I understand, I am here now, and you don’t have to worry that I will not tell anyone."
Karen didn’t know what to think; it was like Edie had no feelings; her heart felt like it was being pressed by a large stone, so heavy that she could not breathe. Karen looked at her calm look and felt that her behavior was cruel. She wondered what was going through Edie’s mind. Maybe she thought Donald was the bad guy, but it was the opposite.
"Miss Lara, you can understand that it is for the best. You should know that his life is the way it should be. His life is on the right track now. Maybe now that he is with you, he will not lose everything. Although he is the heir to Hawk Real Estate Co., Ltd., it is just an empty name. This path he is taking has not been an easy one."
"If he stays with me, then his life will be back on track? So, what about all the years that we spent together? What were they an accident that never should have happened? What about the past year, am I supposed to pretend that it never happened? I don’t know what you want from me. I don’t understand what is going on?"
Edie lowered the head to avoid Karen’s pity. She did not want her to see the look in her eyes.
"He leaves me, gets engaged to Joanna, and Mr. Lynch’s road is too easy? What about me and my road? " ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Karen was stunned by Edie’s sharp tone in her voice. Edie’s behavior today was so gentle, and now she is acting like this.
Karen became brave and tried to explain, "Miss Lara, I know it is difficult for you to understand, and soon in time I promise, you will. Maybe it hurts, but the truth is. It’s me that should be blamed. I will fulfill my promise, as long as Donald is okay. I can give this life back to you."
Edie heard what she said and smiled.
"Me and Donald Lynch are over. Why would I want this life back? You are very good at Donald, very sincere. It is a blessing for him to have you in his life, but I don’t want it back. I have my own life now, and it doesn’t involve Donald."
Karen couldn’t tell what Edie was thinking. She sincerely felt sorry for what she did to Edie. She didn’t know how to make amends for the things that she had done.
"Thank you for trying to explain."
Karen spoke softly, "Don’t thank me, after today, I will not have any more involvement with you or Donald. It will only be you and him, and as for me, I will be nothing but a stranger to him."
Karen took Edie to the ward, and without her even showing her where Donald’s room was, Edie knew. As she slowly approached his room, the sound inside became clearer. Doctors and nurses were standing at his bedside, talking about the condition he was in. For some reason, they all looked anxious.
The nurses were holding his body down to hook up an intravenous. Donald was out of control. He was waving his arms and legs around frantically. It was like he was in a dream, and he was struggling desperately to run away.
They had tried several times to hook the IV up, but they couldn’t keep him still. Every time they would find a vein and put the needle in, he would move. He was covered in blood. Edie tried to remain calm but found it very upsetting.
She looked at Donald and almost didn’t recognize him. She thought he was awake, but his eyes were closed. He was frowning, and he was struggling so hard to get away, and then all of a sudden, he screamed.
"Edie! You don’t have to leave, please don’t go! Let me go! I am going to find Edie. She needs to give me another chance!"
Edie suddenly felt weak, and her eyes turned red. She took two steps back and rested against the door frame. She thought she was going to faint. The tears started falling down her face, but inside she was burning with anger at the reminder of what he had done to her.
It had been so long since she heard these words coming from his mouth. This past year all he had done was criticize her and ridicule her, and now he’s calling her name as if nothing ever happened. Her mind drifted to the memories of when they were still together, and she could feel the sadness in her heart.
Donald had been calling Edie’s name since last night, and it was that reason why Karen knew she had to find her. Karen stood behind her and whispered: "I told you that he needed you." Edie took a deep breath and tried to control her emotions. She took a step forward and slowly walked to Donald’s bedside.
The nurses looked at Edie and hesitated. They were still holding his hands and were afraid that because of his struggling, he might hurt Edie. Karen gave the nurses a look, and several of the nurses let go of his arms and stood there waiting for him to make a movement.
Edie sat down on the chair next to the bed and then gently held his hand. When Donald was brought to the hospital, they had seen how he was unconsciously aware of what he was doing. Every time someone touched him, he would instantly push them away.
They had no idea who she was, but they were concerned for her safety. She reached out and touched his hand. Donald clung to her hand immediately, and it was like he was drowning and reached for the hand that could save him.
"Edie..." Donald whispered unconsciously. All of her emotions were being stirred up inside of her again. "I am here now." freēwēbnovel.com
These four words were like some kind of strange magic. As if it were a spell, and he magically calmed down. Karen breathed a sigh of relief. He seemed to be a little more comfortable now.
She wondered if she did the right thing. She couldn’t think about it, and it was already done. The decision was made, and all she could do was move forward.
Since Donald was quiet, Karen signaled the nurses to treat Donald quickly. Several of the nurses promptly went over and checked him. Then they inserted the intravenous. Donald remained quiet as if he was in a trance.
He kept holding Edie’s hand and refused to let go. She had tried several times to pull her hand away, but the more she struggled, the tighter he held on. She sat there helplessly, waiting for the injection to take effect.
Her eyes inevitably saw his face. He hadn’t changed much. He was still handsome, but yet there was something different about him.
Edie couldn’t figure out what it was, and she knew there was something different. With his eyes closed, she could feel his inner tiredness. The medication was finally starting to take effect.
She felt his big hand slowly losing strength. Edie took her other hand and removed his fingers one by one and slowly took his hand and laid it on the bed.
