Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Embarking on the Path of Truth
"But that isn’t even the most important part. What truly matters is that High Level Wizard Apprentices have earned the right to pursue the Truth."
Radak said seriously to Andre.
"The right to pursue the Truth?"
When Andre heard this, the Chain of Hatred began to tremble within him. A massive amount of information from his Bloodline inheritance flooded his mind.
"Witchcraft is the pursuit of Truth. It uses Truth to interpret everything in the world, from the composition of matter and the laws that govern the world’s operation, to even the creation and destruction of a world held in one’s palm. Everything is related to the Truth."
"And High Level Wizard Apprentices are the ones who have earned that right."
Radak nodded and continued.
"To become an Official Wizard, one must forge their own Ladder of Truth. The stage of a High Level Wizard Apprentice is when you gather Truth to construct the very first step of that ladder."
"This is also the reason you see so many High Level Wizard Apprentices in the academy."
"Because no one wants their Ladder of Truth to be weaker than others. Everyone wants to forge a powerful one."
"This is why many who are clearly capable of advancing to Official Wizard remain as High Level Wizard Apprentices."
Andre nodded. Though he didn’t yet understand what this "Ladder of Truth" actually was, it was clear from Radak’s lesson that it was the most important thing for a Wizard.
"The methods for constructing the Ladder of Truth can be found in the Wizard Inheritance Hall. You can use the time while your heart is fusing to study this knowledge."
When Radak finished speaking, he cast a spell of Witchcraft and returned them both to the Inheritance Hall.
"Teacher, becoming a High Level Wizard Apprentice means I can sign a Master-Servant Contract, right?"
Andre looked at the Earth Elemental Bear at his doorway and felt a headache coming on. The creature had actually managed to tear the Witchcraft Scrolls he’d posted on the door to shreds with nothing but its claws.
If it weren’t for the powerful Witch Array guarding the Wizard Inheritance Hall, the creature probably would have already escaped.
"Yes, you can. However, I still recommend you wait until your heart has finished fusing before signing a contract with this little fellow."
"It’s an Elemental Creature, and the Magic Power in its body far exceeds your own limits. If anything goes wrong while establishing the contract, it’s very possible your positions will be reversed."
Radak nodded, then pulled a Witchcraft Scroll from his sleeve and handed it to Andre.
"This is a Master-Servant Contract. Consider it a gift from your teacher to celebrate you becoming a High Level Wizard Apprentice and successfully forming your Magic Heart. By the way, you’ll be changing your Meditation Technique."
Radak’s last words stunned Andre.
"Change my Meditation Technique? But... I can still continue to practice with my current one, can’t I?"
This confused Andre. He had been practicing this Meditation Technique for almost three months, only recently reaching the point of proficiency. ’And now I have to change it?’
"Have you forgotten your Talents? You don’t just have the Eye of Truth; you also have a Thunder Element Talent. Your new teacher will give you a new Meditation Technique!"
Radak tapped Andre on the head with his Magic Staff, reminding him of the Talent test he retook when choosing a Wizard Academy.
"Back then, Lady Diana said the vice-principal was a Thunder Element Mage, and she brought me into the academy based on his reputation... Teacher, my new teacher isn’t the vice-principal, is he?!"
The more Andre spoke, the more his confidence wavered. Having been at the academy for nearly three months, he had heard many stories and plenty of gossip among the Wizards.
He had a fair understanding of the Wizards currently teaching the new recruits at the academy.
And the most feared and revered of them all—the one spoken of in hushed tones—was the vice-principal known as the Shadow of Cyan Thunder.
The vice-principal was known for being scrupulously fair, which, in turn, made him incredibly strict when teaching his disciples.
While none of the disciples he taught were weak, very few could actually endure his methods.
In the 2,000 years since the vice-principal first began accepting disciples, only 50 have ever successfully completed their apprenticeship under him.
That’s equivalent to one every forty years. Moreover, the washout rate was two hundred to one.
In recent years, that rate has even doubled. Out of four hundred new Wizard recruits, only one can withstand the vice-principal’s tutelage.
This brutal washout rate has led to more and more new recruits becoming unwilling to study under the vice-principal.
Now, his new teacher was very likely this vice-principal, which gave Andre quite a headache.
"Yes, you’re correct. He is your new teacher!"
Radak’s words mercilessly shattered the last shred of hope in Andre’s heart.
Andre suddenly felt dizzy. ’It really is the vice-principal!’
"With me, you can learn about Demon Patterns, Magic Plants, and even the creation of Magic Potions and Witchcraft Artifacts. You can learn so much more, but there is one thing I cannot teach you."
"And that one thing is crucial for a Wizard: combat."
"Although I am a Level 3 Wizard, I am not like Krell. I am a scholar-type Wizard. I excel at passing on knowledge, studying techniques, and offering guidance."
"Krell, on the other hand, fought his way up from the masses. His combat prowess is immense, earning him the title of Combat Wizard. His moniker, the Shadow of Cyan Thunder, was carved out through the countless battles he has fought and won."
"With the expedition coming up, you must learn how to fight—how to fight like a Wizard. That is something I cannot teach you. Therefore, you must have a teacher with exceptional combat ability."
"At the academy right now, Krell is the strongest in terms of combat power. As much as I hate to admit that his power is greater than mine, his abilities in battle far surpass my own."
"You can learn many combat techniques and fighting styles from him. This will be crucial to your survival during the expedition."
Seeing Andre’s reluctant expression, Radak grabbed him by the ear and began to lecture him.
After listening to the lecture, Andre finally understood why the vice-principal had to be his new teacher. freёweɓnovel.com
’The expedition, the expedition... everything is for the expedition, everything is in preparation for it.’
"I understand, Teacher."
Andre pushed aside his negative feelings and steeled himself to face his new teacher’s instruction.
"Good. Someone will come to pick you up tomorrow and take you to him."
Seeing that Andre had quickly accepted Krell as his new teacher, Radak nodded in satisfaction, cast a spell of Witchcraft, and vanished.
As soon as Radak left, Andre’s expression became dejected.
The joy from successfully forming his Magic Heart hadn’t even had a chance to settle in before it was completely washed away by this news.
