Chapter 268: Chapter 166: I Love You, Kristen
"What happened?"
Jose, Tune, and Denero, her three younger brothers and fellow competitors for the Patriarch’s seat in the upcoming Dragon Hunting Ceremony, gathered around.
"The Frank Family and the Constantine Family are fighting," Isabella said lightly.
"It must be because of that Bloodless, Baron Constantin... No, I suppose we should call him a Dragon Knight now." Jose smiled. "I never thought that guy would have hidden his true colors so well. Assassinating Anthony was one thing, but to think he also colluded with the Dragon Witch. It seems he’s become one of the Witch’s familiars."
"After all, a Bloodless couldn’t possibly leave the Inner Side for just a few years and transform into a Dragon Knight capable of running circles around so many Old Bloods and Law Enforcers."
He looked at Isabella. "What do you think, Big Sister?"
"I think Baron is a good person. He bought me candy when we were little."
Isabella didn’t speak. The one who did was another girl.
Her purple hair, also curly, was swept up by a hairpin. She wore a Daoist robe that couldn’t hide her slender, graceful figure. In her hand, she carried a duster, which she swung as she spoke. Though she wore no makeup, her face was as clear and bright as jade.
Many of the hot-blooded young men present let their gazes linger on the heavy, ripe fruits beneath her Daoist robe. But when they met the eyes of the man beside her—an old Daoist with an immortal-like bearing, white hair, and bushy eyebrows, who looked like he’d walked straight out of an old Hong Kong film—they shuddered and immediately looked away.
A Daoist from the Celestial Master Sect of Sichuan and Shu in China. It was said that the Daoist profession was equivalent to a well-rounded Wizard, and they were not to be provoked.
The girl beside him was his final disciple, and also the fifth daughter of the Beowulf Family.
Lucy Beowulf.
"Daoist Zhou."
The Beowulf scions, including the usually cool and proud Isabella, ignored the sister who had suddenly returned home. Instead, they offered a somewhat clumsy bow to Daoist Zhou Yuantao.
Daoist Zhou Yuantao nodded, his expression kind. "This old one is only responsible for bringing Qingxu (Lucy’s Daoist name) here for the Dragon Hunting Ceremony. I cannot stay for long."
"After I pay my respects to the Patriarch, I will leave Qingxu to catch up with you siblings."
Daoist Zhou said a few words in Chinese to Lucy that Isabella and her brothers couldn’t understand, then went to meet the Patriarch, Lidton, who had come forward to greet him.
"Lucy, what are you doing back here?" her second brother, Tune, asked, a little curious.
He knew that Lucy, who had always been spoiled like a princess, had no interest in the Patriarch’s seat. Her return to Beowulf Manor must be for some other reason.
Lucy twirled the duster in her hand and said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Because there are Dragons in the Dracul Mountain Range, and I need some parts from a Dragon Descendant for my Alchemy..."
"But let’s not talk about that for now. I haven’t heard any news about Baron Constantin since he left the Inner Side for the Outer Side. It wasn’t until I was reading The Times in Sichuan and Shu that I found out he’d actually done things like blowing up King’s Cross Station and contacting the Dragon Witch."
She grabbed the eldest daughter’s arm, the heavy, ripe fruits rubbing against it. "And what the hell is this about assassinating Anthony... That’s obviously fake, right? I knew Baron really well when we were kids. He was a neurotic wreck all the time. There’s no way he could do something even *I* would want to do."
’Something even *I* would want to do...’
Jose and the other brothers smiled wryly to themselves, didn’t say anything more, and tactfully took their leave.
Because of her flighty personality, the family Elders had unanimously decided to send Lucy to the East to study the Dragon Taming Art. The hope was to temper her character, but unexpectedly, after a few years of study, she had successfully entered the Daoist profession. Her Tier, graded according to the "Heaven and Earth Profound Yellow" system, was already Black Iron Tier.
It was worth noting that among the five Beowulf siblings, only the eldest daughter Isabella and the second brother Jose were Bronze Tier. Tune and Denero were still only Black Iron Tier.
It was just that her personality was as eccentric and unpredictable as ever.
Although her older brothers had doted on Lucy when she was young, they had little contact with her after she grew up. They only got to see their biological sister during major events at the manor.
Furthermore, now that the brothers were all vying for the position of Patriarch of the Beowulf Family, besides their unified front against their eldest sister Isabella, there was also open and secret strife among themselves. Their relationships had naturally grown distant.
Thus, when they met, there was little to say beyond a few pleasantries.
Of course, that was only one reason for their departure. For Jose, the main reason was that he felt awkward facing his eldest sister, thinking about how he and his men had turned Beowulf Manor upside down last night and still failed to find the intruder.
Isabella neither confirmed nor denied her sister’s words. She only said, "The ceremony is about to begin. Hurry up and choose your Dragon Guide."
Lucy, however, used her Duster to sweep across Isabella’s chest, which was bound by her Hunting Outfit. Her eyes darted as she said, "Isabella, your chest is almost as big as mine now."
Generally, in the European Region, it was common for siblings to address each other directly by name, regardless of age, to show intimacy.
However, in the Old Blood Clans of the Inner Side, due to historical issues like the succession of the Patriarch, most descendants still used formal titles.
This was why Jose and the others called Isabella "Big Sister," while Lucy called her Isabella directly.
Although Isabella and Lucy were half-sisters, thanks to their irresponsible, philandering father, there was only a three-year age gap between them.
Plus, they were the only two girls among the Beowulf descendants. And so, over time, the younger sister who once feared her big sister the most had become the closest of sisters with her.
