Chapter 588: Chapter 587: Rejection
Archer Quinn had long known that Bella Acker wasn’t the type to play with ambiguity, so he was mentally prepared to be rejected after confessing.
But being mentally prepared is one thing; truly hearing her rejection is another.
Archer looked at her, and after a long moment, he smiled bitterly, "I understand."
"Senior Quinn..." Bella didn’t know how to comfort him, paused, and said, "I’ll go up myself, good night."
The apartment building was not far ahead, and Archer nodded, "Okay, good night."
She nodded at him and walked toward the base of the apartment building.
In matters of the heart, if you can’t give a response, not giving the other person hope is the best way.
Archer watched her walk into the apartment building, and only then did he turn to leave.
The feeling of being rejected after confessing wasn’t really good; it felt like a pin had pricked his heart. While it didn’t hurt much, there was an empty hole letting cold wind in, suffocating.
Archer didn’t go back home but drove to a more private bar.
This bar was membership-based; patrons had to comply with the bar’s rules to get a membership, making it less chaotic than those other bars.
Archer presented his membership card to enter the bar, ordered some drinks, and sat in a booth in the corner of the hall, drinking alone.
He downed five or six glasses of liquor in one go before finally pausing to catch his breath.
When people drink while feeling down, it’s very easy to get drunk. Archer held his glass, leaning back on the sofa, expressionless, watching young men and women in the hall dance to the music, feeling disconnected from all the excitement.
He had long known his confession would be rejected, but in the end, he couldn’t resist taking that step.
Unable to become lovers, it might even be awkward for her to be friends in the future.
Thinking of this, Archer laughed at himself, picked up the bottle, filled his glass again, and drank it all down in one gulp.
"Hey handsome, are you alone?" A woman in a red dress approached Archer, deliberately pinching her voice to ask.
Archer didn’t even lift his eyelids at the sound, poured wine into his glass again, and drank it down.
"Handsome, drinking alone is boring, why don’t I accompany..."
"Sorry, he’s not alone." Bea placed her glass loudly on the table, provokingly raising an eyebrow at the approaching woman and said with attitude, "Someone like you trying to snag a guy, why not go home and look in the mirror first?"
Bea’s looks were strikingly beautiful yet aggressive; her raised eyebrows gave a feeling she wasn’t easy to mess with.
The approaching woman took one glance at Bea’s outfit, the latest Burberry early summer dress, knowing she wasn’t anyone ordinary. Facing Bea’s provocation, she just smiled, raised her glass to Archer, and walked away indifferently.
Bea looked at Archer, who was drinking alone, and said, "I was watching from over there and thought it looked like you. Didn’t expect it was really you. Why are you drinking alone here, got dumped?"
During the time Aunt Sienna was hospitalized, Bea occasionally visited her in the hospital, where she had met Archer once, knowing he had a good relationship with Bella.
"Miss Sinclair, I just want to drink alone." Under normal circumstances, Archer wouldn’t speak to others like this, but his mood was genuinely bad right now, and he didn’t want to bother with social niceties.
"Drinking alone is quite dull, I’ll drink with you."
