As Alden was busy looking at his system interface with an imperceptible smile, the class suddenly turned silent. The chaos subsided as Carasina entered the room.
She looked a little different today. She appeared more confident, as if she had already decided on something and was now going to attempt it.
"Good morning, students. Today is the second day of our class, so rather than wasting our time in greetings, I am going to tell you about some news..."
Her gaze turned toward every student sitting in the class, but it stopped on Alden for a second longer than necessary. Then, she looked away.
’Damn, she is definitely going to do something fishy... I have to be careful of her. She wouldn’t just let me go after yesterday’s event.’
"So, as everyone knows, I am your Magic Instructor and will be teaching you about different kinds of magic, its structural formulas, theories, and practical applications..."
For a second, her gaze flicked toward Alden again and then turned back toward the rest of the students.
"But as of this year, some unique and brave students have entered the academy. So, after taking the Principal’s permission, I requested to add another subject for the first year. It is called the ’Educational Tour’. This course is generally meant for third-year students, but I got permission from the principal and shifted this course to start from the first year... So next week, we are planning to go on the tour."
As she announced the news, some overexcited students raised their hands to ask questions.
Carasina’s eyes swept through the crowd of raised hands, pausing at one of the girls sitting near the middle of the second row.
"Yes... What do you want to ask?"
The girl stood up, bowed slightly as a courtesy, and answered.
"Ma’am, I wanted to ask what we will be doing on the tour. Will we explore new places and enjoy—no, I mean, learn about new places?"
Carasina smiled at the girl and gestured for her to sit down.
"No. If you are misunderstanding this course for a picnic, then I will tell you the truth. In this course, you are not going to have fun. In contrast, the academy will conduct different kinds of practical examinations in these places. You have to maintain your academic ranking. If you remain at the bottom, you will be expelled from the academy in the next semester. So don’t take this lightly."
"This Educational Tour will be conducted by different instructors on different semesters, so I will not be taking you all to every place. The other instructors will take you instead."
"And the first place we are planning to go next week will be ’Beastriheim, The Island of Beasts’! The examinations conducted there will be completely unknown so that you will have to adapt according to the different situations and environments."
"Note that your examination ranking will depend on your presence or absence in the academy."
"Among the different examinations, some will be conducted in teams and some will be done alone. The teams will be selected from random students among the different sections of the classes."
"The selected teams will be announced next week."
Alden looked at her and slumped on his desk. He felt a massive headache coming on.
’Shit, a tour? I know this is definitely going to bring some new event, which will just bring me new trouble...’
’I wish I will at least get a good team that will not glare at me constantly.’
Suddenly, Alden felt the constant gaze of someone.
He looked to the front. A guy with navy blue hair and azure eyes was staring at him for some reason. It was none other than Edwin.
Alden met his eyes for some time. After their eyes met, Edwin quickly looked away, acting like he was caught stealing a fish.
’Sigh, why the heck was he looking at me like that? Is that guy mad or something? At least he should focus on the class instead of me... F*cking bastard. It seems every child of an SS-ranker is fated to make trouble for me.’
Alden’s gaze also caught the girl sitting beside Edwin. She had golden hair and bright golden eyes, and she wore a bright smile for some reason. She also looked away after their eyes met.
’What the f*ck? Why is she smiling at me? Is there something on my face or something?’
Alden touched his face, expecting to feel black gel or something funny, but no, there was nothing there.
’Shit! I have to stay as far away from them as possible. I do not want to team up with guys like that... God, please bless me with some different team that will not bring me trouble. I want to live peacefully, at least for some time.’
As he was cursing to himself, Carasina finally finished talking at the front and began the lessons related to magic.
Alden then focused on the lesson. After he got the ’Growth-Acceleration’ innate ability, his comprehension speed had increased tenfold. He quickly grasped and memorized the complex formulas and structures easily, as it was not too much for him to handle anymore.
’It seems at least I don’t have to worry about the written examinations of the academy. I just have to manage my rank in the practical examinations, which means training to death...’
As the lectures continued, the class fell into silence. Only the sound of Carasina’s voice echoed through the room.
Beside Alden, the silver-haired girl was completely ignoring her teaching. Her whole focus was on Alden.
’Hehe... It seems I have got a new place to go on a date with Alden. I have to somehow manage to get on his team...’
’It is going to be fun, my dear. I will get the opportunity to be close to you. Hehe... Don’t worry, I will not let you be expelled from the academy, at least not until I want you to be.’
As the class continued, Alicia just stared at his side profile while leaning on her desk, leaving him completely unaware of her gaze.
