Chapter 20: Chaos in the Classroom

After changing into his academy uniform, Alden walked out of the boys’ dormitory building. He strode forward, walking through the outdoor corridor. He first passed by the main cafeteria to grab his lunch early so he could bring it along with him.

’Sigh... It seems I have to actively avoid public places in order to not get into some new trouble. I also have to train today, so it is best to stay out of any problems that might appear.’

As he walked toward Class A, he passed through crowds of several students who looked at him with hateful eyes.

’Damn, did I steal their family treasure or what? Why are they looking at me like that? Did I ever harm them? Even the past Alden was a frail guy who wasn’t social enough to harm or hurt anyone, so why are they looking at me like I am their mortal enemy?’

’Sigh... This world is purely based on political power, it seems. If you have the backing of power, then you are considered a great figure and people are cautious of you. But if you have no one to back you up, you will be considered an insignificant figure and openly hated by others.’

’What a pain. I just wanted to live a peaceful life, and they are making me want to beat them up... But come on, Alden, you shouldn’t worry about them. You have more pressing trouble that you have to face right now.’

’Whatever... Please just don’t give me some quest that will involuntarily make me the center of attention. I want to remain in the background so that I can grow silently. Like some cool protagonist who at first glance seems weak, and then after a time skip, he becomes overpowered. I want to become that kind of guy... Hehe... It would be really cool if that actually happened.’

Just as he reached his classroom, he stepped forward and entered through the door. Of course, trouble just had to call him in the name of a system quest.

[Ding!]

[Daily Quest Arrived!]

[MISSION: Create Chaos among the class!]

[REWARD: 1x Random Element!]

Alden looked at the floating interface. It was the exact type of quest he did not want to get. But to his bad luck—or maybe it could be said to be good luck—he involuntarily got the quest anyway.

’But the reward is still really good. Getting a new element is far better than getting a simple skill. Because I can easily make new skills if I have the elements, but I can’t make the elements even if I have a skill.’

’So basically, getting an element will help me create further opportunities for my development... I shouldn’t be disappointed by this quest, except for the fact that I have to attract unwanted attention to secure the reward.’

He stepped forward and walked inside the class, actively thinking about what he should do.

All of the students glanced toward him for a few seconds. They didn’t hide their disgust, hate, disdain and annoyance after seeing him enter. He paused for a second as he saw the silver-haired girl sitting in the same seat she was in yesterday, a few benches away from where he had sat during the last class.

Suddenly, an idea came into his mind.

He raised his hand and called out loudly. He wasn’t screaming, but his voice was loud enough for everyone in the class to hear.

"Hi Alicia, how are you? It’s been a while..."

He said this with a casual smile and walked directly toward her. He sat down in the seat beside the window, the exact same seat he sat in during the last class.

He sat calmly, giving a small nod toward her. She also nodded back, feeling a little bit confused by his casual way of speaking to her in public. He just ignored the stares and looked at the front of the classroom.

Instantly, the entire class turned into chaos. Everyone started to aggressively whisper and speak with each other.

"Hey, did you see him? He just called the ’Ice Princess’ so casually!"

"Yeah, I saw that. That guy must have hit his head hard if he dared to get closer to her..."

"No, but look! She was not saying anything bad to him. Does she actually know him? Is that why she didn’t react?"

"No, it could also be possible that she didn’t even consider him worthy enough to give a reply to..."

A girl with brown hair leaned over and whispered to a boy nearby.

"Hey, I also saw him walking out of the girls’ dormitory building earlier this morning. I thought maybe I was mistaken, but it seems he really must have come from there..."

"Oh, that is ridiculous! He must have met some other girl. It is impossible for her to call someone like him to her room... I refuse to believe that!"

As all the students’ gossip filled the room with his name, utter chaos took over the class.

Near the front row, Edwin sat while leaning on his bench. He looked back at the swarms of gossiping students, and then he glanced at Alicia. She sat calmly, acting as if she didn’t care at all about whatever gossip was filling the class.

Edwin took back his gaze and looked at Sarah, who was sitting beside him calmly.

"Hey, what do you think about the rumors? Do you think the rumors are true or false?"

Sarah smiled playfully and replied, "Well, I already know the actual truth. I don’t need to know about the gossips."

Edwin’s curiosity flared up. He looked at her and asked,

"Tell me what it is then."

Sarah smiled, looked at him, and said, "Why would I tell you? You already know you have to give me something in exchange for such valuable information. Hehe..."

Edwin paused. He looked at her playful expression. For a second, he considered ignoring his curiosity to know the truth. But as he couldn’t hold back his questions anymore, he asked.

"Tell me what you want in exchange."

"Oh, yes, that is a good deal. So, in exchange for the information, I want you to go on a date with me this weekend..."

Edwin blinked and questioned her.

"But we just went on one this week. Why again so soon?"

Sarah pouted as she looked at him. "Don’t be a meathead. We haven’t even explored half of the city area yet. We should go out, and I haven’t even tasted many of the desserts... I have to taste them."

Edwin sighed and nodded reluctantly.

Sarah’s smile bloomed brightly. She quickly kissed his cheek while no one was looking at them.

Edwin’s face turned red at the sudden kiss. He was totally caught off guard and sat stiffly in his chair.

Sarah laughed softly at his behavior.

"Hehe... Okay, let me tell you a secret."

She leaned forward toward his ear and whispered.

"Yesterday, when I went to Alicia’s room because my room’s AC was not working properly, I saw that crimson-eyed guy. He was sitting there on her couch calmly."

"It seems he also spent the night there. So it seems something must have happened between them..."

Edwin looked genuinely shocked at her revelation. He turned his head and looked at Alden, who was sitting there calmly in the back.

’If this is true... Then I have to tell him as soon as possible.’

While Edwin was busy thinking about his next move, Alden sat in the back row, entirely focused on the flickering system interface in front of him.
