Chapter 5: Contract Changer

A few minutes had gone by since Belva went into shock. She was still questioning her existence.

She had completely blanked out since she was tortured mentally by this despicable bastard.

Even now, she could feel that death was so close to her, yet it never came.

However, what really made her mind break was that this despicable villain actually dared to say he could free her from the Lord’s control.

"Go to hell!" Belva spat. As if she would believe his ridiculous lie or anything he said anymore after what she had gone through.

Wasn’t he just trying to lie and give her false hope so that he could continue to mentally torture and troll her?

"Oh, you don’t believe me?" Ray lowered his stance and made eye contact with her directly, his finger holding onto her chin.

"If you had that ability, then you wouldn’t have been used as a pawn. The moment you enter the Carrion Household, you are destined to die." Belva sneered. She was adamant in paying back the favor from his previous act.

"I’ll be celebrating when you get killed by the Lord’s children." She continued, wishing him well in the afterlife.

She wanted to continue to speak more, but Ray was one step ahead of her. He flashed a sly grin and said, "If I die, then you will also be buried alongside me. Why was that? You’re my personal maid, so to the public, you are my people. If the Lord’s children got me killed, what makes you think you’ll be spared?"

Belva’s pupils constricted as she heard his logic. Indeed, the nobles were always selfish, prideful, egotistic scums who only cower to the strong but bully the weak.

The hour-long torture had made her very weak and incapable of thinking clearly.

"Hah... Hah..." After a few minutes, Belva gasped for air when she was granted the time to ponder her current situation.

Ray didn’t rush things because he was certain that someone like Belva was definitely clever enough to understand their current situation. She lost simply because the protagonist’s halo was too powerful, but with him now.

That protagonist’s halo might as well not exist.

’The protagonist is unworthy and should just live in seclusion.’ He clicked his tongue and proceeded to retrieve the Contract Changer after purchasing a bundle of it from the Villain Store.

And with the sudden appearance of the Contract Changer, Belva’s expression changed. Although she couldn’t recognize what it was, she could feel a profound mana surrounding it.

"Let’s see your contract," Ray muttered softly, and saw the type of contract Belva was under. "Ah, there it is! The contractor is Robert Carrion. Welp, not anymore. From now on, the name is Raymond Carrion."

Shortly after saying so, Ray decisively changed the contractor name to his own.

What made this Contract Changer fearsome was that nobody would know about the change unless Ray personally notified them.

Since he had already decided to make Belva one of his subordinates, he needed to let her know who her real boss was.

In the blink of an eye, Belva’s body trembled in fear and astonishment.

She looked at Ray with widened eyes.

"Y-You can actually change the contract." She asked in a stuttering tone.

Everyone in this world knew a magic contract was final and couldn’t be modified. The only way to change the content was to break the magic contract and rewrite another one.

However, that particular logic had been overturned by Ray today.

"My power isn’t just limited to this." Ray chuckled in humor. "Now, do you believe my words?"

Belva was rendered speechless. With the solid evidence in front of her, she couldn’t possibly doubt his words anymore.

"Why do you want to help me get revenge?" She clenched her fist and asked.

"Didn’t you already give me the reason?" Ray grinned and crossed his arms.

"You and I are both on the same page, a pawn that could be sacrificed at any given moment. But the difference is, I’m a stronger pawn who can bully you, and you cannot."

"A stronger pawn..." Belva laughed hysterically. What a nice way to word it when it was still pawn at the end of the day.

"I won’t bother to lie to you. You need me, and I need you. If we aren’t on the same page once we leave the room, then we’ll just be a fish on the chopping board."

"Fish on the chopping board?"

Upon seeing her confusion, Ray gladly enlightened her as to what the meaning was.

Fish on the chopping board essentially meant they were physically helpless and could only wait for the butcher to strike their kitchen knife at them.

It could happen now or later. They would never know, as it depended on the butcher’s mood.

Belva was left baffled when she realized how accurate the explanation was.

She was bound by the magic contract, losing her freedom. Even though she was promised the chance of vengeance, she would never know if it would be fulfilled.

So now that she was faced with the possibility of achieving vengeance against those nobles she encountered in the past, offered by Ray, she couldn’t help but believe him more than Robert.

At the very least, Ray was also like her, just a pawn for the nobles. But most importantly, he really had the power to do the impossible, altering and modifying a magic contract.

A few minutes went by, and Ray noticed Belva’s negative loyalty had returned to 0.

"Seems like we’re on the same boat now." Ray smiled lightly. freёweɓnovel.com

"You only mentally tortured me, but those bastards killed my parents when I escaped." Belva’s face twisted when she recalled how her parents were dismembered and smeared by those despicable nobles.

"I don’t care about myself anymore. I only want revenge, but those bastards have too many powerful guards."

She was only a Third-Circle Mage. Her enemies’ guards were all above Fourth-Circle, and some were even Magic Knight or Aura Knight, capable of melee combat and suppressing magic spells.

"I’ll promise you that as long as you remain loyal to me, the opportunity to end those nobles will come true." Ray gave his sincere promise.

As the Villain Extra, he also belonged to the same category.

However, there was still a limit to how immoral he could go.

Prior to coming to the novel world, he was just a regular shut-in man who read novels to pass the time.

Belva was a sadistic person born from the corruption and notoriety of nobles.

If he were to approach her with the ridiculous, gentle heart action, she would only disdain him more.

She had suffered hardship like this, so she would never trust anyone but herself.

Therefore, the best method was to conquer her through despicable and unconventional means before giving her a logical and legitimate reason as to why she could trust him.

Some might be calling him manipulative or villainous, but wasn’t that the character setting he was in?

’Being a villain is indeed freer than being a trapped hero who has to deal with moral rights.’ Ray refused to follow the rules.
