Chapter 36: Best Skill

Far away from Moonrock Town

THUD!

A woman suddenly plopped to the ground, her face filled with sadness as she clenched her chest tightly.

"A-Are you alright?" Next to the woman was a man clad in some clothes that had clearly met a tedious battle. They knelt down on one knee and asked in concern.

"I don’t know..." The woman shook her head in confusion. "It’s just that I suddenly felt a pang of sadness, almost like someone close to me is gone." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"Could this be a side effect from the previous battle? You did rescue me from the horde of monsters."

"No, I don’t think so, William."

The man, identified as William, was none other than the protagonist in the novel Lord of Magic.

At this moment, his only desire was to find the culprit responsible for the monster tides that destroyed his entire life.

"We can take a rest, Sylvie," William said softly. "I can’t possibly continue when your condition doesn’t appear to be good."

Sylvie’s eyes were slightly watery. As a Mage, her sensitivity to certain issues was high, which meant that something dearest faced trouble.

But who else was her dearest when she lost her parents early?

’Wait... it can’t be...’ Suddenly, Sylvie’s expression turned blank when there was indeed one person left in this world whom she cherished deeply.

Her little sister, Sylvia, whom she had been desperately trying to find ever since she was kidnapped.

Without hesitation, Sylvie closed her eyes and tried to sense where exactly this emotion was coming from.

Soon, her eyes darted in a certain direction.

"William, do you know where that place is?" She pointed at a spot and asked.

"Hmm, that place?" William looked up and pondered for a second. "If I’m not wrong, that should be where Moonrock Town is located. I’ve heard... the neighbors who lived next to us mentioned going there for the transit point frequently."

When bringing up the neighbors, William was somewhat saddened because they had also been killed during the monster tide alongside his family.

"Moonrock Town..." Sylvie muttered the name softly, her eyes glinting in a cold light.

She didn’t care what was going on, but she was definitely going to head over there to investigate.

She believed in her intuition, and what they were telling her right now was that someone she cherished no longer remained in this world. ’I swear upon heaven that I will never stop until I have my revenge.’

’Is this the power of a Mage?’ William flinched slightly when he felt the mana residual from Sylvie leaking slightly.

’Power...’ He glanced at the ruins and destruction around him. He clenched his fist and understood that those with power were not necessarily good.

Evils who held power were a threat to this world, and he shall eradicate these evils to purify the world.

If Ray were present at this scene, he would probably utter the word ’fuck’.

...

Moonrock Town

’Fuck!!!!!!’ Ray cursed silently when the culprit Chloe brought back just happened to be Sylvia.

He prevented Jake from turning into madness to avoid a conflict between the Carrion Household and the protagonist.

Sure enough, he succeeded in stopping Jake, but then Chloe fixed the storyline by bringing over the heroine’s sister.

In the original story, the heroine’s sister was killed by those related to the kidnapping organization.

But clearly, that plotline was ruined now that she was killed by Jake.

"Well done, Jake! You did a great job in apprehending and killing the culprit responsible for this tragedy!" Ray clapped his hands and praised loudly. As if he would take on the protagonist’s hatred.

[You sure are shameless beyond help...]

’Shut up, I want to live, not die.’ He defended his action.

Meanwhile, everyone on the scene was dumbfounded by his sudden statement.

"Huh, what?" Jake raised an eyebrow when his name was suddenly called.

More importantly, he was hearing the despicable man telling him well done.

"Why are you acting confused?" Ray shook his head and approached him with a warm smile. "You’re the hero today, Jake. Be proud of yourself."

He then gave him a few pats on the shoulders before shifting his attention to the crowd.

"Right, people? It was Jake who heroically rescued Moonrock Town and dealt with the culprit responsible!"

The soldiers and guards glanced at each other for a brief moment. They then subtly shifted their sight to Chloe, who simply shrugged in response.

She was never one to care much about the merits, especially when the credits still stayed within the Carrion Household.

Not to mention, this kind of lie could only deceive the public.

When the rest saw Chloe’s reaction, they understood it was a silent consensus agreement.

Since that was the case, they all erupted into cheers and praised Jake loudly.

"Young Master Jake is amazing!"

"Young Master Jake is the hero!"

Jake’s face instantly flushed in a mix of embarrassment and gleeful emotion.

He cleared his throat and waved his hands down slightly to signal them to not exaggerate too much.

"..."

Jake’s other siblings only rolled their eyes in disdain when Jake willingly sold himself away for the credit.

Where was your dignity?

Where was your integrity?

How could you have the nerve to accept this kind of false credit!

While Jake secretly basked in the praise, he made sure to whisper to Ray. "Don’t think this will change my hatred of you... But at least you know how to uphold the Carrion name."

’Ugh, what a goddamn tsundere.’ Ray felt goosebumps at his words. It would have been fine if those words were uttered by a beautiful woman, but by him?

PLEASE GET OUT!

What a disgusting personality...

’Whatever, at least I got this bad boy.’

He shook his head and returned his attention to the system prompt.

Although it was inevitable that he had created hatred against one of the heroines, this skill that he obtained was too good to be passed up.

Necromancer!

Alright, Ray could already anticipate what other readers would say.

Necromancer, again?

Can’t you have some other new idea instead of resurrecting the dead with some code word and aura farm?

Toward this comment, Ray only had two things to say: so what?

Necromancer was a godly skill for someone lazy like him.

’Now I can just train these undead armies to do the work for me.’ His thought process was simple.

Survive and live his life to the fullest through slacking.
