Chapter 31: Moonrock Town
Cracks and debris filled the originally smooth road pavement. There was even dried blood scattered across the walls.
Despite the destruction, there were still some people lingering around the town, with many desperately digging through debris. Tears filled their eyes as they called out to their loved ones.
"Mom, where are you? Don’t leave me behind." A little girl holding on to a torn teddy bear cried as she dug through the pile of stones. Her little hand bled as she struggled to move the stone a bit.
At another far distance, there were adults busy grabbing their precious goods.
"How am I going to live now? All the goods are destroyed!" Some of them cried in despair.
"Are there no rescue soldiers in Moonrock Town?" Jake appeared disgusted and questioned.
"It’s a good thing you came with us; otherwise I would have thought you lost your mind from the tragedy." Ray quickly snorted. "Where can there be rescue soldiers when they are busy deflecting the monster tide?"
This was the prologue scene that Ray deeply remembered.
Manpower was down due to the sudden eruption of monster tide everywhere.
The number of casualties was extremely high, which caused an alarm to every ruling power.
However, there were always two sides to a coin.
Where there was darkness, there lay light somewhere.
In this dark time, many people awakened mana. The sudden surge of numbers was high and unprecedented.
But at the same time, the number of monsters also rose tremendously. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Because of this, the collective ruling party decided to construct a Magic Academy to train the new generation on how to use their mana and fight against the monsters.
And that was how Lord of Magic began its timeline: the protagonist William being accepted to the Magic Academy with a tragic background.
’The prologue was skimmed over by a few sentences in the novel only, but now I have to witness it unfold before the main storyline begins.’ Ray finally realized why he didn’t find any information related to the Magic Academy.
The Magic Academy that was known as Utopia.
It wasn’t even constructed yet, so how could there be any information?
"What should we do now, Young Master?" The guards promptly asked for instructions. They didn’t dare to do things ahead without permission.
The decisiveness in the command to kill refugees made them understand that this adopted son was no gentle soul.
"Split into two teams. One team will help with the rescue; the other team will investigate and gather information about the situation." Ray pointed at the little girl who was desperately trying to dig the stones.
"Yes!" They were ready to assist the little girl.
"Hold up!" But before they could take another step, Ray called out to them.
"I don’t mean assisting her. I mean bringing the little girl away because her mother is definitely dead. Her staying there is just going to make bad publicity for us."

’Seriously? I’ve said all that inhumane crap, and it’s only worth 1 point?’ He was dumbfounded by the trivial amount of points.
[The little girl’s mother is indeed dead, so there’s no falsity in your words. It’s just that the speech was rather crude and harsh, which qualifies as villainous.]
’Oh...’ Ray didn’t expect his nonsense crap to be true.
That was awkward.
And somewhat depressing.
"You stay next to me, Jake." Ray patted his shoulder and warned. "Without permission, you are not allowed to leave the town. Do I make myself clear?"
From his memory, by the time the main storyline started, Jake was already losing his mind.
That goes to show that the chance of his being corrupted in this prologue was high.
He would never risk the cliche plot of letting others oversee Jake, only for him to throw his weight and fit to leave to another place.
"I don’t want to stay next to you." Jake clicked his tongue and snorted.
"Aw, you don’t want to stay next to me?" Ray placed a hand on his chest in disbelief. "Well, too bad, so sad. You can either stay next to me, or I have Chloe knock you out cold."
As soon as he finished saying that, Chloe’s eyes glinted in a cold light.
"Whoa whoa whoa!" Jake raised his hands and quickly took a few steps back when he saw Chloe’s hostile eyes. "I’m listening to the order."
Chloe narrowed her eyes and glanced at Ray.
Only when Ray gave a light nod did she retract her hostility.
’Damn it, when did Chloe become this obedient to him?’ Jake was stupefied and wondered what kind of drug Ray used on her.
While he was in a daze, Ray wasted no time assigning tasks for others.
"Chloe, you’re strong independently, so try to expand your perception to see if there are any remnants of the monster tide around. If discovered, just kill them and bring the corpse here."
"Skyler and Skylar, the two of you have good connectivity as twins. Help the search team see if there are any survivors left. That way, we can get an understanding of what happened prior to our arrival."
Once he finished giving these three instructions, he turned to Jeanette.
He paused for a good moment.
Meanwhile, Jeanette’s body tensed up slightly.
’What task is he going to assign me?’ She was a bit nervous and curious. But one thing she could never have imagined was that she wasn’t even given a chance.
"Never mind."Ray shook his head and decided against giving her any instruction.
She was born from the same mother as Jake, and honestly, he had no hope for these two blood-related siblings.
Although it might be harsh to group the two together, it was seriously hard for Ray to trust her.
"Oi, what do you mean by ’never mind’?" Sure enough, Jeanette snapped. Her eyes flared up as she was offended that she wasn’t even given a task.
"Don’t lump me in with that useless brother of mine. If you do, then I’ll show you what it means to be burning while feeling cold internally."
