Chapter 30: A Wise Decision
"D-Do you mean kill them, Young Master?" The guard asked as he questioned the neck-slicing motion.
If they were going to be killed, then why did they offer them high-quality bread?
"Are the guards in the household always this ridiculously slow in the head?" Ray turned to Chloe and asked.
"They are probably not used to your unpredictable command."
"I’m pretty sure you are more unpredictable as the commander."
"Hmm?" Chloe suddenly tilted her head. "How did you know how I behave as the commander?"
’Ah crap...’ Ray realized he had made an accidental slip of the tongue. Chloe’s commandership in unpredictability was only known to her army.
Of course, he was an exception because he had read the novel and bits regarding Chloe’s battle.
However, Chloe didn’t know that.
Her eyes narrowed coldly. The atmosphere inside the carriage dropped.
"I’m not your soldier, Chloe." Contrary to what one might expect, Ray snickered and resisted the pressure.
’Fuck is she aura farming for. Can’t you lower it?’ He cursed silently and approached her closer.
"Father told me about it to let me have an understanding of my siblings. If you don’t trust me, then go ask Father. But then I’ll also complain about how you just try to use violence against your commander."
"You—" Chloe was rendered speechless by his threat.
Granted that this mission was given to him in charge, her action indeed constituted insubordination.
"You what?" Ray suddenly raised his voice and roared at her.
At that moment, Chloe was jolted by surprise and retracted her pressure.
While she was startled, Ray extended his hand and held her chin. "Listen, Chloe, I am the commander here. You chose to come here by your own wish, so you better understand this position between us."
"..."
Silent, the carriage seemed to have turned into a battlefield.
Thankfully, the battle didn’t last long as Chloe brushed his hand aside.
"Very well, that was indeed overboard of me." She retreated.
’Holy, the bluff actually succeeds.’ Ray was relieved that he won the gamble.
Nevertheless, he was a bit disappointed that his action didn’t garner him any villain points.
Seriously?
He literally just threatened and subtly took advantage of her.
How was that not a villainous act?
[A villainous act toward Chloe in such a manner would have resulted in the person being sliced in half. Shall we have that happen instead?]
"..."
Of course, this snarky system would pop out at this time to ruin the mood.
What the system reminded him of was that his action didn’t even constitute being villainous.
In other words, it was a mid-action, one that was extremely dry.
While Ray was sulking, the refugees had been killed off by the soldiers.
When the guard informed him of the completion, Ray sighed inwardly in disappointment.
’As expected... These refugees had been cursed.’ The fact that he didn’t earn a single villain point proved that his action wasn’t a villainous act but rather a heroic act.
How can killing off cursed beings that could cause more mayhem later on be an act of evil?
Being a villain was indeed tough when one wasn’t a psychopath or born criminal to begin with.
There was a limit to his rogueness and how far he could continue his act.
[The host is gay~ He loves the boy love genre and reads them excitedly~]
’My rogueness has been restored.’ Ray gnashed his teeth in disgust.
"Set off to Moonrock Town! Any more disturbance or obstacle, slice them down without hesitation!" He ordered thunderously.
Soon, the carriage began to depart again.
Needless to say, Jake’s face was completely darkened.
He glared at Ray as if there was a huge grudge between them.
"My bread... feed them only to kill them. Was there a need to sacrifice my bread?" He mumbled in sadness.
"Someone grabbed a piece of cloth and stuffed it in Jake’s mouth." Ray snapped his fingers and turned to Belva.
"Bitch is whining even worse than a little kid. My ears are about to erupt from his annoyingness." He picked his ears.
"Aren’t you complaining now, too?" Jake instantly snapped. When had he ever been insulted like this before?
"Oh noes, the little kid is throwing a tantrum again. I’m so scared. Bite me, you little brat." Ray narrowed his eyes.
"Young Master..." Belva smiled bitterly on the side. She was certain that he was messing with Jake to pass the time.
And she would be correct!
Ever since Ray decisively ordered the killing of these refugees, the remaining ones who were hiding trembled in fear.
"That person lied to us. They said they wouldn’t kill us under the circumstances, but it’s all a lie."
"Forget it, this task isn’t worth our lives."
"We should take our family and head to the city. It’s better than waiting for death from this grim reaper."
Needless to say, these refugees had been discovered by the soldiers.
However, Ray had given them the order that they were only allowed to kill if these refugees dared to halt their path.
Since they didn’t and knew better, they were able to flee with their lives intact.
[+5 Villain Points]
As the carriage continued to move, Ray suddenly received a notification.
’Hoh, a sudden increase in points?’ He pondered silently before realizing the reason. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Some of the refugees who fled must have been cursed as well.
By letting them get away, he essentially allowed them to fester and cause harm in the future.
That, in technicality, was a villainous act because he would have indirectly caused others to suffer.
Of course, he couldn’t verify this suspicion when the carriage finally came to a halt.
"We have arrived, Young Master and Young Miss!" The guards announced.
"Moonrock Town..." Ray got off the carriage, and the first thing he noticed was the ruins left behind. The heavy stench of blood was also invading his nose.
’I know this is just a novel, but how many lives are lost to have this heavy stench?’ His heart and emotions were starting to stir at this realistic sight.
