Chapter 19: An Unusual Quest

The sky outside was completely naked, having nothing but the sun that shone brightly, emitting excessive amount of heat and light so strong that one would not look above without squinting his eyes.

In this heat, a thing someone would least want to do is go under the sky, but the system seemed not to understand the hardship or at least this was what Evan thought, because the system gave a not so suitable quest to him.

[ Quest : Kill 5 Mountain Blood Wolves ]

[ Reward : 50 XP ]

[ Time Limit : 2 Hours ]

[ Failure Would Result in permanent loss of 20% Of Qi ]

This was the second time that the system gave him a consequence for failure, the first was when he had to enter the outer realm, that time the consequence was even stronger; it stated that the result of failure would be termination or in simple words do or die.

This time the consequence did not affect his life but rather his reputation and future,

If twenty percent of his Qi was was taken by the system, his Qi would drop from ninety percent to seventy percent; from an A-Rank to a B-rank.

The failure would give him one advantage and one disadvantage, the advantage was that he would be free from acting like a mere C-Rank to be free from danger.

The disadvantage was that he would be suffering a terrible loss of power.

’The system is rather... maybe I should say intelligent,’ he thought sitting on his bed, still in his sleeping pajamas he got out of the bed yawning.

Today he did not change into the usual black tracksuit but rather into a smooth silky whit robe, a kind of robe that would be perfect if someone wants to look beautiful, but he did not have such purpose but rather he did it because he had not bought any other robes.

’I certainly would not be attending the hand to hand combat class,’ he told the two of his only friends in the hall after the three of them came out of the classroom of mister David, their General Knowledge teacher’s class room.

Today their classes were scheduled to take place in the morning, this was why Evan thought of skipping the hand to hand combat class.

’And why is that so?’ Hannah asked gritting her teeth, one of the thing the she hated more than anything was skipping a class, previously this was only limited to herself but after meeting her found family, this was implemented on Santiago and Evan as well.

But Evan was ready for the answer because how could he not know that Hannah was not going to ask such question, hence he had prepared the answer beforehand.

’I have to cultivate you know... so that I can graduate along with you guys.’

’Oh I see, well that certainly is important, work hard and believe me... Hard work Beats Talent,’ she replied with a sense of approval, but Santiago who was standing beside Hannah looked at him with a suspicious eye, lifting one of his eyebrows.

’I’ll be going then,’ Evan said. frёeωebɳovel.com

She fixed her eyes on the hall exit and gave a subtle smile as he got out of the hall, walking towards the dormitories.

’What is the probability that he is telling the truth?’ she asked still looking towards the hall exit, smiling.

’Near to zero,’ Santiago replied with a forced laugh

’Anyways let’s get to the class, we’re getting late,’ she said blowing air of her mouth, making the hair that were laying on her face to float.

Meanwhile, Evan had entered the dormitory, he lifted Santiago’s mattress and took a dagger from beneath it, then he placed the mattress in the same position as it was previously, to avoid suspicion.

The dagger was absolutely gorgeous, the face of a golden dragon was engraved in the handle and the deep reptilian blue eyes formed the guard. The blade of it was not a normal metallic one but rather it was made up of a bone of someone from the Bone Men sect, giving the blade a milky white look. The blade was sharper than normal daggers and was more durable.

He sighed and put the dagger in the pocket of his robes.

’Forgive me for taking such beauty, my dear Santiago.’

He got out of the academy which did not prove to be difficult without getting caught.

Getting out of the academy while being a student was not permissible unless or until a teacher has given his approval.

Evan had also first thought of asking for permission but thought remaining quiet would be the best option, because if the teacher knows that he is out of the academy, the sect guards would know too.

The fifty feet walls were a symbol of peace and safety, anyone inside the walls of the sect would be safe and their lives are responsibility of the sect, however the sect did not cover all of the mountains, so if he wanted to kill mountain wolves he would have to leave the sect and leave the peace.

The risk outside the sect was huge because he could be meeting assassins, beast or even Abyss path cultivators.

Hence his fate outside was unknown or there were simply so many possibilities which could occur that one can not determine.

’Hehehe, Heavens simply don’t give anything so easily, if they pave a path they close one too, not even a Celestial or a S-Rank Talent can escape from the Laws of Heaven,’ he mumbled to himself with a slight smirk on his face.

In the hand to hand combat class, Santiago and Hannah were learning a Tornado kick.

’I’m still concerned of what Evan might be doing,’ Santiago said to Hannah.

Hannah shook her head like Santiago had committed a sin.

’Focus on the class... and anyways it does not matter, if you two are lazy than--’

’I shall do everything and take all risks.’

***

’To protect my family.’

***

’And rise to the top of the world.’

Evan and Hannah said but in different places at the same time.
