Chapter 68: Difficult Position

Wendy inhaled slightly, sucking her tummy in. However, this was not good for the child. After a while, she let her abdomen go back to its normal shape instead of deliberately hiding it.

Seeing this, Daisy dug out an elastic waistband and said, "You can remove your gown and put this on first, and I guarantee you that nobody will be able to see your belly."

Instead of taking off the dress as suggested, Wendy hesitated for a moment. She was ultimately unwilling to let her child suffer just so she could look beautiful for one night.

Shaking her head, she said, "it’s fine, I’ll just pay more attention. I’m not used to wearing that anyway."

Since Wendy had rejected her offer, Daisy did not pursue the matter. She turned around, picked up a pair of high heels, and said with a smile, "You can wear this pair of heels tonight, they go very well with your dress."

The heels were about 4 inches tall. Wendy frowned again. It was very unsafe to wear heels this high. It would have been fine if it was just her, but she had to think about her baby, too.

She looked to the side and saw several pairs of heels to choose from.

She walked over, picked a pair of silver heels and said, "I’ll wear these instead."

Daisy frowned, "Even though they’re also very pretty, the heels are only 2 inches tall. They’re not the best option for this gown."

"I’m not used to wearing heels that are that tall, and I won’t be able to walk around normally if l do. I’ll just wear this pair instead," said Wendy while putting them on.

Daisy could only shake her head. Even though the heels that Wendy chose were lower than the first pair, she still looked very beautiful. However, the fact that as she moved, her baby bump would show itself from time to time was very regrettable.

...

By the time they were done, it was already past 6 P.M. Michael was waiting outside anxiously. He decided to enter the room so that he could try to move them along. He said, "The party starts at 7 P.M, please hurry up."

The moment he walked in, he saw Wendy, who was already ready.

One look and Michael found himself unable to take his eyes off her. His gaze was filled with surprise and admiration. Smiling widely, Michael approached Wendy and put his arm around her waist. He said, "Wendy, you look gorgeous."

Even though he was the president of MC Enterprise, his compliments were just as plain and superficial as those from any other man.

However, Wendy was still delighted to hear that from him. "Thank you," she replied.

Michael could not deny that Wendy had surprised him greatly. He wondered why he had never noticed just how beautiful his wife was.

He couldn’t help but lean down to kiss her forehead, causing Wendy to exclaim in a small, Worried voice, "Don’t ruin my makeup!"

Daisy, who was watching them by the side, said, "Don’t worry, I used waterproof products and setting spray on you. It won’t be ruined so easily. And, Il be here the entire night to touch up your makeup if necessary, so don’t be afraid."

With that explanation from Daisy, Michael grew even more brazen. He kissed Wendy on the lips. Wendy immediately reached out to push him away. She said, "What are you doing? We are not alone."

Daisy coughed lightly and looked around awkwardly. She said, "Er, my assistant and I will wait outside for you." With that, they turned around and left. However, before Daisy walked through the door, she kindly reminded them, "Don’t be too passionate-I can touch-up on her make-up, but if I have to do it from scratch, it will be trickier."

Michael burst out laughing when he heard that. Wendy, on the other hand, blushed so hard that even her ears turned pink. Feeling slightly fearful that Michael might really do something to her, she quickly grabbed his arm and said shyly, "Let’s go, we’re running out of time."

Seeing Wendy like that, Michael wanted to tease her, "We still have time.

Wendy looked up at Michael. Her heart was pounding.

She thought, is he for real? fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

As she stood there in fear and embarrassment, she suddenly found herself at a loss. She said, "Michael, stop it."

"I’m the host of this party. If I’m late, they can just wait for me" said Michael, feeling powerful. "Nobody in Lake City would dare to say anything about it."

"Michael!" Wendy gritted her teeth and threatened him in a low voice, "Let me warn you, if you dare..." Before she could finish speaking, Michael leaned down to kiss her lips, interrupting her.

She reached out, pounded on his chest, and tried to push him away, but her strength proved to be no match for Michael. He only let go of her when she started trembling with fear.

Then, as though nothing had happened, Michael took her hand and led her out of the room. When Daisy saw that Michael had emerged much sooner than she had expected, she smiled and joked with him, "Mr. Lucas, that didn’t take long at all."

Wendy coughed softly. Her face was flushed. "My wife is very shy, you should stop joking around," Michael said plainly as he glanced at Daisy.

Wendy was starting to discover just how thick skinned Michael could be. He had acted like a beast just a moment ago in the office, but now he was all serious again.

She thought, wait a minute. Was Michael deliberately teasing me?

At that realization, she reached out and pinched Michael’s waist in secret. Feeling the pain, Michael’s expression changed. Daisy seemed to understand what was going on. She could not hide her smile.

Michael, on the other hand, continued to look indifferent, as if nothing had happened. With his arm still around Wendy, he escorted her on their way. Still smiling, Daisy followed behind them.

Wendy suddenly asked Michael in a low voice, "Are you close to Daisy?"

Judging from their interaction, they appeared to be acquainted. No makeup artist, no matter how famous, would dare to tease Michael like that.

Michael was honest with Wendy. He nodded, "Her older brother is one of my business partners. I’m not exactly close to her, but we’ve known each other for a long time." With his clarification, Wendy finally understood what was going on.

The party was held at the Emperor Hotel, the grandest hotel in the whole of Lake City. By the time they arrived, most of the guests were already there. There were many reporters that Michael had invited as well. After all, the goal of this party was so that he could officially introduce Wendy to the public as his wife.

Holding hands, they walked through the entrance slowly. An unconscious smile spread across Wendy’s face. She was not used to having the spotlight on her, and knowing that all eyes were on her right now made her feel very frantic. However, with Michael by her side, all the anxiety and panic that she felt made her trust and rely on him more.

After all, the man standing beside her was someone whom she had loved for three years. For him, she devoted all that she had and even lost her sense of self. Today, being able to appear at this party with Michael was something that Wendy had never even dared to dream of before.

Moreover, Michael was here to acknowledge her status as his wife. She covered her belly with her other hand as she relished in how sweet this felt.

Internally, she told herself that as long as they could get through tonight and Michael really did introduce her as his wife to everyone here, she would tell him about their child. In the past, she never dared to talk to him about it because he had once said that he did not want a child.

If Michael could bring himself to take this step today, then Wendy was willing to go all out and take another gamble on him.

Everything seemed to have changed for the better.

"Wendy, you look so beautiful tonight," Christian’s voice rang out at this very untimely moment. Without thinking, Wendy looked toward the source of his voice and saw him approaching her quickly.

At just the same moment, there were even more flashes from the cameras surrounding them. The sight of Christian shattered the beautiful illusion that Wendy was harboring in her mind.

She could not help but contemplate about how much tonight’s party was related to him. She figured that Christian had to be a big reason why this was all happening, since otherwise, Michael was fully capable of preventing him from entering this hotel.

Yet, not only was Christian in attendance-he was also holding the invitation card in his hands. This was enough to prove that Michael wanted Christian to see with his own eyes the sight of him together with Wendy.

However, Wendy did not know how big of a factor Michael’s love for her played in the party tonight. At this thought, her smile faded.

When Christian noticed that, he approached Wendy with a smile and whispered into her ear, "Wendy, you should pay more attention to your expression. Don’t forget that there are many reporters here tonight."

Her face froze. However, in the following second, she managed to recover her smile. Christian was right. Since she was attending the party as Michael’s wife, every move she made and word she said would receive much scrutiny.

No matter what, she needed to adopt the correct attitude and demeanor at every moment. Seeing that Wendy had regained her composure, Christian teased her again, "Wendy, I hope that the next time we meet at a party, you will be holding my hand instead of Michael’s."

Wendy did not know how Christian was so utterly shameless to the extent that he could bring himself to say such a thing on this Occasion. Michael was also observing the many changes on Wendy’s face. His expression grew sullen as he pushed Christian away. Then, he smiled casually as if nothing had happened and greeted his brother courteously, "Thank you for attending the party tonight, Christian. Please make your way inside."

"You’re welcome"’ Christian smiled gently and innocently. Before he left, he made it a point to nod at Wendy.

Wendy did not understand Christian at all. Even though she had worked as his assistant for a while, she still could not tell how shrewd he was exactly. To be honest, she was quite afraid of him.

He was like a poppy-he looked harmless and was even beautiful, but he was capable of releasing a lethal poison. Of course, she never wanted to get involved with someone like him, but he just refused to let her go.

Since the party had not officially begun, Michael took Wendy to a spot with fewer people and asked her softly, "What did Christian say to you?"

"Nothing much," said Wendy with her head bowed slightly. She did not know how to answer his question. There was no way that she could tell him the truth.

Michael sensed that she was deliberately avoiding his question. He frowned, evidently unhappy, and said, "What exactly did he tell you that you’re too scared to even let me know about it?"

Michael had always been very hostile toward Christian. He had his guard up against his brother. He could not do anything when he saw Christian whisper into his wife’s ear just now as they were surrounded by reporters and outsiders, but this only made him want to know what Christian had said even more.

Blinking, Wendy replied quietly, "He asked me to pay attention to my expression and be careful since there are reporters around."

"What else?" Michael pursued the topic. "If that was all, you would have told me from the start"

Sometimes, Michael was just too smart, and Wendy felt helpless. He clearly knew that nothing good could have come out of Christian’s mouth, but he still wanted to hear it. Knowing that Michael would surely be unhappy if she told him the truth, Wendy frowned. She felt like she was in a difficult position.
