Chapter 679: His Promise

They were waiting anxiously when Milo finally walked into the hospital ward with the results.

His face could not conceal his joy as he walked in happily.

Wendy and Michael looked at him and knew that he had gotten the results. They asked immediately, "How was it?"

Actually, based on Milo’s expression, they could already guess what the results were.

"It’s a match," Milo answered. It was as they had guessed.

"It’s a match?" Wendy could not believe her ears. She felt a little dizzy.

She had been very high-strung over the past two days. This news caused her whole body to go soft.

Luckily, Michael noticed and was quick to catch her.

"Michael, did you hear that? It’s a match," Wendy turned to Michael. She could not contain her joy.

Michael nodded his head, "Yes, I heard it. Leah will be saved."

Everyone in the room gathered around them.

"That’s great news. We’ve finally found a match." Mrs. Lucas was so happy that she was crying tears of joy. She used her hands to wipe away her tears.

A smile had also spread across Leah’s face.

"Whose sample matched? Was it mine or my father’s?" Jill asked.

"It was your father’s," Milo answered.

"It’s his..." Wendy heard the news and her joy and excitement died down a little.

If it were Jill, things would be so much easier because Jill was already at the hospital, and she had agreed to donate her bone marrow.

On the other hand, Timothy was still in prison.

Wendy sucked her breath and said, "He should be willing to donate his bone marrow, right?"

She was not sure about that.

She was worried that Timothy would refuse because Wendy had put him in jail.

If he still harbored a hatred for Wendy, he would naturally be unwilling to save Leah. fгeewebnovёl.com

Michael knew what was worrying Wendy. "No matter what, he is Leah’s grandfather," Michael said. "He had also watched Leah grow up. I’m sure he would be willing to donate his bone marrow to save her."

After another silence, Michael continued, "If in the event he refuses, we could use abit more force. Of course, nobody would want to resort to that."

"Let’s just contact him first," Wendy said.

"I’ll ask Todd for the number to contact Timothy Woods," Michael said.

"Let me contact him," Jill said, who had been listening to their conversation.

Jill had visited Timothy several times already, so she was familiar with the prison there and knew who to contact first before trying to contact her father.

"Thank you for helping us to contact him," Wendy quickly thanked her.

Jill’s face grew serious. Without another word, she took out her phone.

The call connected immediately and Jill said in a calm voice, "Hello, I would like to speak to Timothy Woods. Could you please transfer my call?"

Very soon after, Jill passed her phone to Wendy. "The call has been transferred to him. Do you want to tell him yourself?"

"Um," Wendy replied. Her hands trembled a little as she took Jill’s phone.

"Hi, Jill..." Timothy’s voice could be heard over the phone.

Wendy was quiet for a moment before saying, "It’s me."

The familiar voice took Timothy by surprise and he was quiet for a while.

"Corrine?" Timothy was surprised. "What’s the matter?"

Timothy had rather mixed and complicated feelings toward Wendy.

He could not help but blame Wendy for causing him to land in prison. Yet at the same time, he also knew that he deserved it.

He had committed so many crimes that he could only spend the rest of his life in atonement.

...

"Mr. Woods, your bone marrow is a match to Leah’s. Would you be willing to donate your bone marrow?" Wendy did not know what to say to Timothy, so she decided to go straight to the point.

Wendy could not bring herself to call him "Dad", at least not at this point.

"The blood sample they took from me yesterday has been delivered to you?"

Timothy sounded extremely surprised.

"You didn’t know?" Wendy asked him in return.

"No, I didn’t know. All they told me yesterday was that they needed to draw my blood for a bone marrow match. They didn’t tell me who I was matching with."

Timothy was now in prison and was naturally clueless. "What’s going on?"

"Do you remember Sylvia Stewart?" Wendy asked, her hand that was holding the cellphone was trembling.

"Sylvia Stewart?" Timothy repeated the name, his voice shaking. It was obvious that he remembered that name. There were so many questions in his head. Why would Wendy know Sylvia Stewart? Why did Wendy bring her up now? Who needs his bone marrow? Why was it a match? Timothy had so many questions that he felt his head was about to explode.

He was soon arriving at the truth. Mary Stewart, Wendy Stewart, Sylvia Stewart...

Timothy quickly shut his eyes tight, not daring to think any deeper. In his mind, he saw Mary’s face appearing slowly.

Timothy had met Mary before, but he had not thought much about it. Now, he could not recall what she looked like. All he could remember was a blur.

As for Sylvia, so many years had passed and Timothy’s memory of her face was unclear. He only remembered that when Sylvia was young, she was very beautiful and elegant.

More than thirty years ago, her family was from a relatively comfortable middle-class background. Her life was never hard. She was a little girly at times but was also very tough.

Timothy could not remember her face clearly, but, he could not connect the Mary Stewart he had met with Sylvia.

Mary Stewart was a middle-aged woman with sallow complexion. Her face held no beauty. How could she be the same Sylvia Stewart he knew years ago?

Timothy did not dare to believe it. He asked Wendy, "What on earth is going on?" His voice was filled with surprise and incredulity, "My mother is Sylvia Stewart. Mary Stewart is Sylvia Stewart," replied Wendy.

After that, there was a very long silence at the other end of the line. Timothy had already guessed it himself. But he found it hard to swallow even after hearing the truth out loud.

He choked, "Are you telling the truth?"

"Leah is sick and needs a bone marrow transplant. We’ve all done the compatibility test and yours is the only one that matched Leah’s," Wendy said. She avoided answering his question directly. "Now, I would like to ask you to donate your bone marrow. Would you be willing to do so?"

"I..." Timothy was still lost in the sudden revelation of the shocking truth, and he could not answer immediately.

When Wendy did not hear a response, she started pleading, "I know you probably hate me for landing you in prison, but Leah is innocent. You watched her grow up too. Can you bear to see her die?

"As long as you agree to donate your bone marrow, I will agree to anything. "Mr.

Woods, please, please save Leah. No matter what, she is your granddaughter, and you’ve always loved and doted on her."

...

"Okay," Timothy said, his voice breaking. "I will donate my bone marrow to Leah."

Hearing Timothy’s words, Wendy let out a sigh of relief. She was finally able to relax.

She had been thinking about how to convince him. She did not expect him to agree to it so quickly.

"I’m still in prison and I can’t travel freely. But I will immediately ask if I can leave prison for a few days," he said.

"You don’t have to worry about that, we will take care of all these for you. All you need to do is to agree to donate your bone marrow," said Wendy.

"Okay, I’ll leave it to you then." Timothy’s voice was still shaking. He then hung up.

Wendy’s words were still ringing inside his head. Mary Stewart was actually Sylvia Stewart. His god-daughter, his mentee, was actually his biological daughter. He was suddenly very glad that previously, he did not follow Christian’s orders to get rid of Wendy. It was fortunate that he was humane. Or else, he would have killed his own daughter.

Closing his eyes, Timothy took a deep breath and squatted in the corner. He tried desperately to remember what Sylvia Stewart looked like. He suddenly recalled the first time he met Mary Stewart and how she had looked rather flustered. She must have recognized him then. But he obviously had not recognized her.

And since she did not say anything then, he was sure that she had no intention of letting Wendy know who her father was. That’s right, he did not deserve to be Wendy’s father.

Thirty years ago, he had left Queens City. Before he left, he had promised Mary to take her as his wife after he had made a name for himself. He had solemnly believed that since he was so talented, it would not take him more than five years to do well in the fashion and design industry.

So he had let Sylvia wait for him for five years. But he had not anticipated that even with all that talent, he had no chance to display them. He had no money, no contacts, and no power. He could only work for small design companies that were totally unknown.

After slogging for more than half a year, he was still an errand boy, serving tea.

There was no chance for him to deliver even one design draft to the head designer.

One day, he had a chance meeting with a very famous designer, Baron Perrie, Rosa’s father. Timothy had used a little bit of cunning to become Baron’s disciple.

Timothy was very clear that he and Baron were worlds apart. So he hired someone to kidnap Baron, he then went to rescue him. That was how the two men got to know each other, and Baron was very grateful to Timothy for saving his life.

And then Timothy very smoothly told Baron that he admired Baron’s designs and was a designer himself. Unsurprisingly, Timothy became Baron’s disciple. Timothy was handsome and had a talent for design. Rosa fell in love with him at first sight.

Initially, Timothy resisted Rosa’s affections, because he remembered his promise to Sylvia. However, he saw that Baron had no other children but Rosa. If he were to marry Rosa, then all that belonged to Baron would become his, and Baron would be willing to teach Timothy everything.

If Timothy were to give up the chance of marrying Rosa and she married someone else, then that someone else would inherit everything instead.

Timothy was craving for success. How could he pass on such a good opportunity?

Time proved that his choice was right. After marrying Rosa, Baron poured his heart and soul into grooming Timothy. In only a few years, Timothy became a new star in the fashion and design industry.

Timothy basked in his victory and fame. He had forgotten his promise to Sylvia.
