Chapter 678: Too Early to Thank Me
"Todd has agreed to help us settle everything on his end," Michael told everyone with a smile on his face after he hung up with Todd.
Wendy let out a huge sigh of relief. She blinked and said, "So since Timothy Woods is my biological father, that means Jill is my half-sister. She could be tested too, right? Isn’t it also possible that she would be a match?"
"Theoretically, she might match," Michael nodded. "Let’s contact Jill too."
"I’ll do it," Wendy said. She had Jill’s number in her address book.
Wendy found her phone and looked through her address book for Jill’s number and gave her a call.
Mary’s eyes looked down slightly when she heard Jill’s name. There was a slight change in her facial expression.
She knew that Jill was Timothy’s daughter with his wife.
The call was connected but there was no answer.
She waited till the call was almost automatically disconnected before someone finally answered the call.
"Hi, Jill, it’s me, Corrine..." Wendy gripped her phone tightly and spoke anxiously.
"Corrine?" Jill was surprised to hear Wendy’s voice.
She had thought that because of all that had happened with her father, Wendy would never contact her again.
Because her father had broken the law and Wendy had brought down HG personally and even sent him to prison.
Jill knew that Wendy had done the right thing.
Her father deserved to be punished by the law.
But Timothy was still Jill’s own father. She would be lying if she said she had no ill feelings at all toward Wendy.
Humans are not always logical. Humans also have emotions.
"Why are you calling me?" Jill sounded sleepy as she was woken up by the phone’s ringing and so she was not fully awake yet.
"I’m sorry for waking you up," Wendy said after she heard Jill’s sleepy voice.
"It’s ok..." Jill paused and then asked, "Did something happen?"
"Yes, something has happened..." Wendy pursed her lips and hesitated for a moment. She took a deep breath and said, "You should sit down."
All of Jill’s drowsiness dissipated when she heard Wendy’s last sentence.
It had to be something serious if Wendy wanted Jill to sit down.
Jill sucked in a deep breath and said, "Go on, Corrine."
"We are half-sisters. We share the same father." Wendy did not beat around the bush because Jill was going to find out about this sooner or later. Wendy preferred to be clear with Jill now.
As expected, there was a long silence. There was no sound from the other end of the phone.
Wendy let out a sigh and continued talking, "I only just found out about it too. I am also very shocked."
Jill slowly recovered herself. She gave herself a slap on her face to check if she was still dreaming.
The hot sting on her face told her that it was not a dream.
Jill took another deep breath and asked with a laugh, "You must be joking, right?
Because this isn’t funny."
"I’m not joking."
Jill could hear from Wendy’s tone that Wendy was being very serious. She also had no reason to call Jill at this hour just to play a prank.
After another long silence, Jill finally fully recovered her senses and seemed to have digested the news.
Wendy had remained quiet, waiting for the news to sink into Jill.
"You didn’t call me just to tell me this news, did you?" Jill asked Wendy after her heart had calmed down.
...
"There is one more thing," Wendy said. "Leah has congenital immunodeficiency. Her condition had stabilized, but recently, she started having some problems and she needs a bone marrow transplant now.
We have the same father so that means you and Leah are related by blood. I would like to ask you this favor. Could you take a test to see if you are a match? If you are a match, could you then donate your bone marrow? Please?"
Earnest pleading could be heard from Wendy. freewёbnoνel.com
"I can’t be the only person related to Leah by blood," Jill said.
"We’ve already tried matching the others but none of them matched," Wendy sighed. "That’s why I am asking you and your father. Now I can only pray that either one of you is a match. Of course, whether you donate or not is up to you."
These two pieces of news Jill had just heard from Wendy were totally unexpected.
Never in Jill’s wildest dream did she think that the person she regarded as her sister turned out to really be her sister.
That was too surreal.
Jill had many questions she wanted to ask but she did not know where to start.
There was a long silence on both ends of the line.
Finally, Jill took a deep breath and said, "Ok, I’ll do it. Send me the address and I will fly there."
Jill was currently taking part in a television program.
But this was a matter of life and death. She had to help.
She also wanted to clarify what exactly was going on in person.
"Thank you, Jill," Wendy thanked her profusely. "I’ll send the address to you."
After hanging up, Wendy sent the hospital’s address to Jill immediately.
When Wendy had finished, she turned to look at Mary.
Her mother knew what was on Wendy’s mind. She touched Wendy’s face, her eyes turned red but she smiled and said, "Don’t worry, if neither of them is a match, I’ll go back to my family and ask my brothers."
Mary could not sit back and do nothing while Leah’s life was in danger.
She had already told them everything. If the need arose, she would make a trip back to Queens City.
"It’s ok, I’ll go back now," Mary said with a sigh.
She did not want to waste time waiting for the results. What if they were not a match?
"Mom..." Wendy’s voice had a catch as she looked at her mother turn around to leave.
Mary stopped walking.
"Thank you," Wendy said.
With her back to Wendy, Mary shook her head.
"I’ll arrange for someone to send Mom back," Michael quickly spoke up. "If there is any need, Mom can contact us any time."
"All right," Mary nodded.
Wendy watched till her mother had completely disappeared from sight. She prayed in her heart that there would be a match.
After settling everything, Wendy and Michael looked at each other, their faces filled with anxiety and worry.
"Mommy, Daddy, Grandmother..." Leah looked at each of them with her large round eyes. "Thank you for all that you’ve done for me," she said in her sweet voice.
Her words made all their hard work worth it.
Wendy walked to Leah’s side, held her, and kissed her forehead. "Leah, I will not let anything happen to you. You must be strong and get through this, understand?"
"Mm," Leah nodded her head seriously. "I will definitely get through this. I have Daddy and Mommy and Jake and Grandmother all here with me, I will definitely get through this."
"Todd has agreed to help us settle everything on his end," Michael told everyone with a smile on his face after he hung up with Todd.

"You didn’t call me just to tell me this news, did you?" Jill asked Wendy after her heart had calmed down.
...
Time was slowly ticking by.
Jill arrived at the hospital in the afternoon the following day.
Seeing a familiar face, Wendy’s heart was touched when Jill arrived.
This was her half-sister, Jill Woods.
One who had treated Wendy as an older sister for years.
"You’re here." That was the first thing out of Wendy’s mouth after staring at Jill for some time.
Over the phone, Wendy was still able to talk to Jill as she always had.
But once they were face-to-face, Wendy suddenly lost her tongue and had no idea what to say.
Jill opened her mouth a little and then closed it again.
She did not seem to know what to say either.
In the end, Jill simply said "Um" in response to Wendy.
"Aunt Jill," Leah said, her voice broke the awkwardness a little.
"Hi Leah," Jill said. She walked over to Leah’s side, her heart aching when she saw the little girl’s pale face.
Caressing Leah’s face, Jill asked, "Does it hurt?"
"It doesn’t hurt," Leah shook her head and smiled in reply.
"Are you scared then?" Jill continued asking.
"I’m not scared," Leah shook her head again.
"You are so brave," Jill told Leah, bending over to kiss the little girl’s face.
Jill had watched Leah grow up and treated her as her niece.
"I’m going to test and see if I’m a match. I hope I’ll be able to help you," Jill said.
"Thank you, Aunt Jill," Leah thanked her.
Jill straightened her back and turned to face Wendy. "Where do I get tested?"
"I’ll show you the way," Michael immediately replied.
Jill nodded her head.
Jill and Wendy left the hospital ward together with Michael.
After Jill had had her blood drawn, they walked back to the ward together. Wendy hesitated a little before finally telling Jill, "I found out about this matter only today. not for Leah’s illness, my mother was intending to keep this a secret forever.
"To put it simply, before going to Rheinsville and becoming a famous designer, he had gotten to know my mother and they were together and had a child. I am that child.
He told my mother that he will return to her after he had made a name for himself, but after all these years of waiting, he never came back to my mother."
Wendy told Jill what had happened in simple terms.
Jill had already prepared her heart for the story but she still felt shocked by it.
She had not expected her father to be such a man.
He had been a responsible husband and father, and he also loved Jill very much.
So it came as a surprise that he had such a history before marrying Rosa.
Jill took a deep breath and wiped her tears with her hands.
She tilted her head a little upwards to stop herself from crying.
"I hope..." Jill did not know how to respond to what Wendy had just told her. So she decided to change the topic instead. "I hope that my bone marrow is a match."
"Thank you, Jill," Wendy thanked her sincerely.
"It’s still too early to thank me yet. Let’s wait for the results first," said Jill.
Wendy was about to say something in return when she saw Milo Lawrence approach them.
"We have received Timothy Woods’ blood sample. I’m sending it to the lab for testing now. I’ll let you know when I get the results," Milo told Wendy quickly as he walked by Wendy.
Wendy and Michael nodded their heads and said in unison, "That’s good. Thanks."
Milo waved his hand at their words of thanks and walked off without saying anything.
They had to wait for the results before moving on to the next step.
