Chapter 389: What Are Your Intentions?
"DR invited me to the press conference and I can bring someone with me." Wendy turned to Todd and asked, "Do you wanna come?"
"DR?" Todd frowned, "Christian Lucas?"
Todd now knew the relationship between Christian and HG and felt uncomfortable hearing Wendy talk about him, "No, you can’t go..."
"I was just asking, I have to go." Wendy sighed to catch Zen’s attention, "Of course I don’t want to go back to Lake City after finally getting out of that place. The Master wanted me to go and said that I should take this opportunity to build a good relationship with Christian. How can I not go?"
"HG has so many people, it could be someone else. DR should be flattered if it’s someone of a high position." Todd said.
"The invitation letter is for me, not for HG. It’s not easy to change people." Wendy continued, "The press conference is in two days and there is a time difference between Lake City and Rheinsville City, so you need to prepare and be ready before tomorrow afternoon when we leave if you want to join. Otherwise, I’ll ask someone else."
"I will definitely go with you if you have to go." Todd was worried that if Wendy went herself, she might see Michael Lucas. There was more than just Christian Lucas in Lake City.
Christian offered the invitation, so he wouldn’t mean to do anything to harm Wendy, especially at a big conference.
It was Michael that he worried about.
Todd was worried that Wendy and Michael might meet again. At least, he would be able to make sure that there will be no chance for them to meet alone if he goes as well.
"Ok." Seeing that Todd agreed, Wendy turned to Zen, "Would you like to go with me? You have been here in Rheinsville City for quite a while, right? Don’t you wanna go back for a visit?"
Zen was confused, thinking that this matter had nothing to do with her. Now that Wendy asked, she finally knew what she meant. Zen wasn’t invited, so she shook her head fearfully "I won’t go back, you know I’m afraid to."
Zen was afraid to see Christian.
She begged Wendy to keep her because Christian didn’t want their child. Why bother going back now if things remained the same?
Wendy’s eyes flashed and she said: "Christian is busy with the press conference and I doubt he would have time for you. You don’t want to go back to see family and friends? This might be a good opportunity."
"No, I think I’ll stay here." Zen refused Wendy’s offer again.
"Okay, then I will go with Todd." Wendy didn’t want to force Zen to go back. She was merely asking. The reason she asked Zen in the first place was that she wanted Zen to know that she didn’t want to go to Lake City and that she was forced by Timothy.
This way, Zen would report it back to Christian.
She was acting for Christian now and needed to be accurate in all aspects. Only in this way could she prevent any possible trouble.
Wendy went back and booked the ticket with Todd.
It was a little past nine in the morning in Lake City.
Christian was already in the company at that time.
He’d been very happy recently after he got the bid and went to the company very early each day.
As soon as he arrived at the company, Christian received text messages from Timothy and Zen. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
The content of the text messages were all about Wendy’s trip to Lake City.
....
Zen’s text messages contained more content because she knew of a lot of things.
She specifically mentioned in the text message that Wendy didn’t want to go but had no choice and told Christian that Wendy planned to buy a plane ticket for tomorrow afternoon.
Looking at the text message, Christian smiled.
He sat on the office chair alone, looked at the small ornament in front of him, and picked it up. He was in a good mood. Playing with it, Christian’s eyes filled with purpose that he himself hadn’t even noticed. He said to himself in a surprisingly gentle tone "Wendy, we are about to meet tomorrow, will you be happy?"
If Wendy heard Christian’s words, she would have shot him a blank look.
Wendy always kept herself as far from Christian as she could.
In the evening, Leah and Jake were a little confused seeing their mother packing up her stuff. Leah ran over to hold Wendy’s arm and asked in a sweet voice, "Mummy, are you going on a business trip?"
Seeing her lovely daughter, Wendy smiled and nodded, "Yes, Mommy is going on a business trip."
"How many days is the trip for, Mommy? "
"Three or four days," Wendy answered.
Wendy thought about whether to take Leah and Jake back to Lake City but eventually decided not to. This was a critical period, and it would be no good to take the two children back in case of any accidents.
Also, Jake wasn’t eager to see Michael at all, so he definitely wouldn’t want to go back. As for Leah, it didn’t make much sense to bring her along to meet Michael since it would just make her feel even sadder when she leaves him.
Besides, it would become a hidden danger if Michael and Leah got along with each other and Christian noticed something wrong with that.
So Wendy decided not to tell Leah where she was going.
"Me and my brother will miss you, Mommy," Leah kissed Wendy’s cheek.
Wendy kissed her back on the cheek and patted her little cute head, "Mommy will miss the both of you too."
"Let me help you, Mommy," Leah started to help Wendy pack up clothes.
The next day, Todd drove to Wendy’s place very early to pick her up and head to the airport. After arriving there, he asked the assistant to drive the car back.
After ten hours of flying, the plane finally landed. Wendy felt sore all over her body having sat on the plane for so long. After landing, Wendy and Todd started to discuss booking a hotel.
Wendy said, "It’s only a little past one now. Let’s go to the hotel first, and then we can take a bath and have a stylist dress us up to look the part. There will be a business reception after the press conference tonight, so we need to look formal for that."
"Okay, sure, you get to decide everything on this trip." Todd did not object.
A group of people walked towards them just as Todd finished and stopped in front of them.
"Are you Ms. Swift and Mr. Lewis?" someone in the group asked.
Wendy and Todd glanced at each other and did not answer the question.
Wendy pursed her lips, looked them up and down, and asked calmly, "Who are you?"
There were about seven or eight of them, and Wendy didn’t know any of them. They looked like white-collar workers in the company.
They raised the welcome sign and said with a smile, "We were sent by Mr. Lucas to pick you up. Mr. Lucas has already arranged the hotel and stylist for you. " Ha! Mr. Lucas? Which Mr. Lucas?
Hearing these words, Wendy and Todd couldn’t help but glance at each other again.
Todd asked calmly, "Which Mr. Lucas?"
Wendy pursed her lips and said nothing. But, she could probably guess which Mr.
Lucas it was.
It couldn’t be Michael.
She and Michael had had such an unpleasant quarrel, and now since he was always under the public eye, it couldn’t be him. Besides, Christian probably never told Michael that she had come to Lake City.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t make it very clear." The man in the lead nodded apologetically, and said with a smile, "It’s Mr. Christian, he said you came all the way from Rheinsville City and wouldn’t have a foothold in Lake City right away. Plus, today is an important press conference and business reception. As the host, he said he should show his sincerity."
Christian arranged for his people yesterday, to pick up Wendy and Todd today.
He had learned from Zen that Wendy was on a plane expected to arrive in the afternoon in Lake City. But to be on the safe side, the assistant had still taken his people and waited for Wendy and Todd at the airport since very early in the morning.
Now they finally saw Wendy and Todd arrive.
"Christian?" Todd didn’t seem surprised when he heard this answer. He turned his head toward Wendy, and asked for her opinion in a low voice, "Go with them?"
Wendy’s face darkened. She shook her head, looked straight at the man in front of him, and urged, "I’m sorry, we can’t go with you. First of all, we don’t know you. We don’t know who you really are, so we can’t possibly do what you ask us to do.
Secondly, we have already booked the hotel ourselves and will be at the press conference on time and with the appropriate dress code. So please let Mr. Lucas know that we thank him for his kindness and heartfelt welcome, we really appreciate it."
Wendy’s remarks were friendly and polite, which made these people unable to argue back. However, they did not give up because of Wendy’s remarks. The leading person in the group nodded respectfully at Wendy and said, "Mr. Swift, Mr. Lewis, please wait a minute..."
Regardless of Wendy’s disagreement, he immediately took out his mobile phone and called Christian.
Christian assured him yesterday that Wendy would not go with them so easily and told him to call Christian if she did refuse. When necessary, certain threats and coercive measures must be adopted.
Wendy frowned as she watched him on the phone. She and Todd wanted to take this opportunity to leave, but a few people on the side came to them and stepped forward to block their way.
"What are your intentions?" Wendy’s tone grew colder.
"Sorry," they bowed in apology.
Wendy turned around and walked towards the other side. Obviously, these people came over to the other side and blocked Wendy’s path again.
This was still the airport, and the people confronting Wendy and Todd seemed to be well-equipped bodyguards. Wendy and Todd wanted to leave immediately, but there was no chance for them to do so.
Calling the police was also unlikely to happen.
They were here to take part in a press conference, and if they call the police, they wouldn’t be able to be a part of any conference. And if this became public, it would not only be bad for Christian, but also for Wendy and HG. Moreover, they had not actually caused any harm to Wendy or Todd for the time being.
"If Christian really sent you, please tell him that we have arranged everything ourselves and don’t want to bother him with any trouble" Wendy endured her temper and said.
