Chapter 363: Why Are You So Nervous
On the second day, Rosa and Timothy came to the office to work together.
Rosa was Timothy’s personal assistant. She was also the chief secretary in HG.
When they arrived at the office, she prepared coffee for Timothy as per usual.
Rosa brought the coffee into the office and happened to look in the direction of the break room. She said in a dissatisfactory tone, "Do you know that there are mice in your break room?"
Timothy was sitting on his office chair. He lifted his hand to take the coffee that Rosa had brought. Timothy asked in reply, frowning, "Mice? This is an office. How is that possible?"
"I found it strange too," Rosa responded. She recalled that she had heard squeaking noises that sounded like mice the night before and she still felt a lingering fear. She complained, "You made me come back to the office in the middle of the night to get the documents. So what happened was that the electricity tripped. Speaking of which, we should get the power facilities checked. It might be too old."
"Tripped? This is HG. There wasn’t any problems like this in the past." Timothy’s eyebrows were knitted tightly.
"Yesterday, the chief security said that the electricity tripped and it seemed like it wasn’t the first time," Rosa said. "It is normal, isn’t it? These facilities should be frequently checked and maintained. I am just telling you that the electricity tripped and there were mice last night. It nearly gave me a heart attack."
The more Timothy heard about it, the more he found it strange.
"You’re saying there are mice in this office? What happened when you came to the office last night?" Timothy asked Rosa.
Rosa didn’t find it odd. She replied Timothy, "Didn’t you tell me to come back to the office to get some documents last night? When I came back, HG’s electricity tripped.
After the electricity resumed, the chief security came to the office with me. Then, the documents that you asked for weren’t in the drawer, but they were in the break room. I wanted to go into the break room to get it, but I heard a mouse squeaking. I was terrified and I didn’t dare to go in. In the end, I got the chief security to get it for me."
Rosa didn’t find it strange. She was merely bringing it up to Timothy and complaining.
After all, he had made her come to the office to retrieve documents in the middle of the night. On top of that, she was his wife. It was only normal that she bore a grudge about it.
However, Timothy seemed to find it odd.
Rosa asked, "Why? You never let anyone clean the break room. It might be because it wasn’t cleaned properly for a long period of time and that is why there are mice."
"Did you see one?" Timothy asked solemnly.
Rosa shook her head, saying, "I didn’t. But you know I am afraid of mice the most. I didn’t even dare to step foot in the room after I heard it squeaked..."
"Why didn’t you tell me about this last night?" Timothy asked closely.
"You were having a video conference when I reached home last night. Didn’t we come to the office first thing in the morning? Plus, I don’t find it strange. The electricity tripped and there are mice in the office. These seem pretty normal to me.
You don’t allow anyone to clean the break room and you only briefly clean the room occasionally. You probably didn’t clean it well enough. I am bringing this up with you now because I happened to see the break room and got reminded about what happened last night."
"Firstly, you didn’t see any mice. Secondly, the electricity so happened to trip then.
Thirdly, neither has there been any mice in the past nor have we ever heard of mice squeaking," Timothy said while standing up. Then, he immediately walked to the break room.
"This..." Rosa saw how flustered Timothy was and she quickly followed behind him to the break room.
But she was still worried that there were mice. So, her footsteps grew slow and cautious when she was nearing the door.
Rosa saw Timothy climbed onto the bed, removed the pillow and pressed on the wall. Then, the brick on the wall moved.
It then revealed the safe hidden behind it.
Rosa walked behind Timothy and asked curiously, "Why do you have a secret gear here?"
Rosa suddenly thought of something and continued, "No wonder you prohibit people to enter your break room. You don’t even let the cleaner clean this room. What do you keep in here?"
She was Timothy’s wife yet she didn’t know that there was such a thing in Timothy’s break room.
It must be really important.
Timothy was not in the mood to reply to Rosa’s questions.
He looked at the safe carefully but he couldn’t see anything odd about it.
But when he touched the password pad on the safe, it showed that there were two failed attempts to unlock the safe on that day. It would be locked on the third incorrect password.
Timothy’s eyes were wide opened. He suddenly felt fearful.
Someone touched the safe!
However, he came back to reality soon after and took a deep breath.
The password padlock wasn’t opened. In other words, someone came to the break room but didn’t manage to see what was inside.
Timothy put the safe back to its original spot.
Then, he walked out of the break room and returned to his work desk. He sat down and took out his phone, ringing an internal line.
The moment the call went through, Timothy commanded in a low yet solemn voice, "Get me a tracing expert immediately. And, retrieve the surveillance video from last night... No, the surveillance video in the middle of the night. The video time should be between twelve to two. Send me the record of my office first."
Rosa was following behind Timothy the whole time. She then realized how serious the issue was.
Rosa saw Timothy hung up the phone and she asked closely, "What’s wrong?"
"Someone came to my office last night and entered my break room. Fortunately, the person didn’t manage to solve the password," Timothy replied, rubbing his hand together anxiously.
"Is there anything important in the break room? What’s inside the safe? Why don’t I know about it?" Rosa asked.
"It’s normal that you don’t know about it. Besides myself, no one else in the company knows about it..." Timothy said but suddenly recalled something.
There was really no one else in HG who knew.
But Todd knew about it...
Timothy wasn’t sure how much did he find out back then.
Timothy slammed the desk heavily. He looked solemn and angry, saying, "I hope it’s not him!"
"Who?" Rosa was confused. She only knew that it was a serious matter but she had no idea what was it about.
"Go ahead and do your work. I need to think through this..." Timothy slumped against the back of his chair, beckoning Rosa to leave.
Rosa wanted to know what happened but she didn’t pursue further, seeing how Timothy behaved.
She then turned and left his office.
The surveillance record that Timothy requested was sent to his desktop really soon.
He watched the surveillance carefully.
It was obvious that the electricity got cut off twice.
The duration of the cut-off time wasn’t long.
When the electricity got cut off, the surveillance system was no doubt down.
When the electricity resumed, there were only the chief security and Rosa in the surveillance video.
Timothy’s eyebrows were tightly knitted. He watched the surveillance video a couple of times but he couldn’t find anything.
Very soon, the tracing expert that he found came too.
Timothy got them to conduct a thorough check throughout his office and placed emphasis in the break room.
...
Half an hour later, the tracing expert told Timothy, "We already gather all the fingerprints and useful traces in the office. We will send you the results in the afternoon. Mr. Woods, please be patient." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Timothy nodded in response.
The waiting time would always feel lengthy.
Timothy didn’t just sit and wait.
He got his assistant to retrieve all the surveillance records in HG around the midnight time period.
He sat in front of his computer, watching through the videos carefully.
Timothy noticed that Wendy worked overtime the night before and she was in her office until the middle of the night.
Besides the fifteen minutes during the electricity cut-off time, her office lights had been on.
When the electricity resumed after the second cut-off, the video clearly showed that Wendy and Todd were being intimate on the sofa...
Then, when the electricity resumed, they went into the break room.
Timothy watched the video over and over again for many times.
It seemed that he didn’t notice anything odd.
The time continued to tick.
In the afternoon, the tracing expert sent the results to HG.
"This is the report of the gathered fingerprints... These are the fingerprints found in the break room you emphasized. If you want to compare the fingerprint information, you can just get someone to check."
Timothy nodded.
He held the stack of reports. He definitely couldn’t see anything through naked eyes.
Timothy said, "Leave a few of your men behind. I might need them."
"No problem," the person in charge nodded.
Timothy already had a suspect list in his mind.
He first found the chief security.
The chief security came to the chairman’s office. He felt anxious.
Fortunately, Todd told him the day before that he only had to insist he knew nothing no matter what Timothy asked him.
If he were to get involved, Todd would offer him a big sum of money so he wouldn’t be dragged in for nothing.
His job as security had not much of a future. It was useless even when he was promoted to chief security.
The amount that Todd promised was enough for him to start a small business.
Hence, to the chief security, it was a good deal.
Timothy sat on his chair, looking at the chief security coldly as he questioned, "Why did the electricity got cut off last night? It tripped twice and the duration wasn’t long." freewebnovel.cσ๓
The chief security lowered his head, looking like he was afraid to be reprimanded. He answered, "It tripped... Chairman, I’m sorry. You have to deal with this personally.
Don’t worry. I already got someone to take care of it. The power facilities are under maintenance now. I guarantee it wouldn’t affect our company’s operation."
"Are you the one on duty last night? I’ve checked the schedule. You weren’t supposed to be on duty last night. Why are you here until so late at night?" Timothy asked.
"My daughter fell sick last week and I got a colleague to take over my shift. Last night, I thought I would take over his shift as a return of favor... If you don’t trust me, you can ask the colleague who I exchanged shift with," the chief security said.
"Why are you so nervous? I didn’t say that I don’t trust you," Timothy lowered his head. He seemed to be evaluating how true his reply was.
"I am nervous indeed... You asked to see me personally. It is our fault that the electricity tripped..." the chief security stuttered in reply.
"Go there and leave your handprint. Then, you can go," Timothy said, pointing at the person standing in another corner.
The chief security nodded and did as Timothy said.
