Chapter 362: Wait A Little Longer
The chief security looked at how Rosa gulped in horror. She was really terrified.
Rosa bit her lip and said, "You... You wait for me here..."
Rosa was afraid of mice the most.
The chief security nodded and looked in the direction of the break room with concern.
The chief security thought for a while and asked, "What documents do you need to take? Why not let me go in and take it for you?"
Rosa took a deep breath and replied, "It’s okay. I’ll go in by myself."
The break room was a restricted area according to Timothy.
Usually, only Timothy and Rosa could go in and out as they wished.
Even the cleaner couldn’t go in and do the cleaning.
Rosa thought and reckoned it was the reason why there were mice in the break room.
Rosa thought to herself that she had to give Timothy a good lecture about it. It’d be better to have people clean the room occasionally.
The chief security couldn’t say much about it. Otherwise, he would cause suspicion.
The chief security nodded and said, "Be careful then. I will wait for you at the door."
Rosa felt her heart racing as she pushed the door open.
Wendy and Todd were standing in the corner then. When the door was opened with a gap, light shined through.
Wendy felt her heart palpitating and she was thinking to herself hard about what explanation she could provide later.
Then, Todd made the noise again, "Squeak... squeak squeak..."
"Ah..." Rosa let out a shrill scream again. She subconsciously took a few steps back.
She even pulled the break room door shut harshly.
She seemed to be worried that the mouse inside the break room would run out.
"Chief Secretary, are you okay?" The chief security asked her, expressing his concern.
Rosa took a deep breath, closing her eyes. She didn’t have the courage to look in the direction of the break room.
She was so scared that she shrunk into a corner.
Rosa patted her chest, saying with a tinge of fear, "I think it’d be best if you go in and take it for me. Take a look at the bed or the clothes rack. See if there’s a black suit. Take the black suit out for me will do. The light switch should be on the wall on your left after you enter the door. You should be able to find it easily."
Timothy said it over the phone earlier. If it wasn’t in the drawer of the working desk, it should be in the break room.
He said that it was in the suit’s pocket.
The chief security nodded and said, "Sure, chief secretary, Wait for me here. I will head in now." He then pushed the break room door open.
He walked into the break room after he opened the door.
He fumbled for the light switch. As expected, he saw Wendy and Todd, standing at the corner.
"An emerald green suit, is it?" The chief security asked Rosa who was standing outside.
"Yes. Do you see it?" Rosa replied.
The chief security looked around and saw the suit. He immediately replied, "Yes, there is."
Todd mimicked the mouse squeaking again.
The chief security went out with the suit. He offed the lights and closed the door behind him. He smiled, saying, "Just in case the mouse runs out."
Rosa looked at the suit and then at the break room door that was closed. She finally let out a breath of relief.
She took the suit, put her hand into the pocket and groped about.
She found a pen drive.
The document that Timothy was referring to should be saved in the pen drive.
Rosa nodded and said, "Thank you."
"You’re welcome, chief secretary. I didn’t do much," the chief security smiled, replying.
"It seems that HG needs to do some maintenance work..." Rosa said, walking out of the office. "There’s a mouse in the chairman’s office and the electricity is not working well. It tripped."
"Yeah, it’s time for an overhaul. I’ll get someone to do a thorough check tomorrow," the chief security quickly responded.
...
Listening to the footsteps and their chatting voices moved further and gradually disappeared, Wendy and Todd finally let out a breath of relief.
However, they still couldn’t head out just yet.
They estimated the timing. After Rosa left HG, Todd sent the chief security another message, saying: Cut off the electricity for about five minutes.
The chief security did according to his instructions.
The electricity was cut off once again.
Wendy and Todd seized the time and hurried out of the break room. Then, they walked down the stairs and returned to Wendy’s office.
Wendy and Todd took a deep breath and slumped onto the sofa.
Suddenly, Wendy thought of something. She whispered softly, "Press against my body. Quick..." freewēbnoveℓ.com
Todd was taken by surprise. He asked, "What are you talking about?"
She said that out of nowhere. It was really strange.
"Just do as I say..." Wendy reached out for Todd and pulled him over her.
Then, she lied on the sofa.
There were surveillance cameras in Wendy’s office. The location of the sofa was within the range of the surveillance camera.
Todd subconsciously followed Wendy’s instructions and did as she said.
The moment he pressed himself against Wendy’s body, his heart started racing.
He couldn’t help but blush too.
When he came back to reality, he immediately sent the chief security a message to tell him to resume the electricity.
In no time, the office lights turned on.
Wendy looked alarmed. She pushed Todd off her, looking bashful.
Todd then understood what Wendy was trying to do.
She was creating an alibi on intention.
Although the night was threatening but not dangerous, it was hard to guarantee that Timothy wouldn’t notice anything strange the next day.
If there were to be an accident, Timothy might suspect them.
If Timothy happened to check the surveillance video, he would assume that they were doing something else in the office when the electricity was cut off...
Wendy purposely smoothened out her clothes and tidied herself.
Todd looked in the direction of the break room and asked Wendy, "There is no surveillance camera in there, isn’t it?"
Wendy shook her head.
Wendy held a prestigious position in HG. Hence, she had her personal break room in the office as well.
The break room would normally be free of surveillance cameras because it was used to take a break.
Then, Todd carried Wendy in his arms and entered the break room.
After they entered the break room, they let out a breath of relief.
Wendy whispered softly, "I hope Mr. Woods wouldn’t notice anything odd."
"Mr. Woods has always been a cautious person. It is hard to say. Although we put everything back where it was, he has always taken extreme care of the safe," Todd analyzed rationally.
"I am not sure if he has any unique way of putting his things or that sort.
Plus, we have tried keying in passwords earlier. There must be a record in the safe.
In short, we have to figure out a countermeasure.
If Mr. Woods finds out and suspects us, we have to think about how to deal with it."
"If he were to suspect us, don’t worry. I won’t drag you down with me. You have nothing to do with this to begin with. By then, just insist that you are not related to it," Wendy said.
Todd smiled, shaking his head. He said, "I promised to help. It is not an empty promise. I wouldn’t leave something unfinished."
Wendy looked at Todd, wanting to say something. But Todd spoke before she did, "If I said that we can’t explain it, you are the one who needs to insist you are not related to it.
I know about things that he does. He would definitely suspect me first.
It’s unnecessary for you to get yourself involved.
Plus, you are operating in the shadows now. Once Mr. Woods realized that you are secretly looking for an opportunity to strike at them, you would be in danger."
Wendy shook her head, saying, "But you will be in a dangerous position then. I am grateful that you helped me. But if we ever come to that stage, I wouldn’t make you the scapegoat."
Todd smiled, replying "Alright... Mr. Woods might not find out. We will talk about it again if he really realizes. By then, we will just deny and insist that it has nothing to do with us. There isn’t a surveillance record after all. He can’t just conclude that it must be us."
Wendy nodded in agreement.
She actually knew that Todd was merely saying it to comfort her.
Since the beginning, Todd knew that it was very risky to sneak into Timothy’s office.
Yet, he decided to help her unconditionally.
"Sigh. Our effort is in vain tonight. We didn’t manage to find anything," Wendy sighed.
"Our time and effort aren’t wasted entirely. At least, we are sure that Mr. Woods really does have a mysterious safe. Its covertness signifies that the safe might highly likely have something that we need," Todd said. freēwebnovel.com
"But if Mr. Woods were to find out someone entered his break room and found his safe, he might possibly move it elsewhere," Wendy said.
"But at least you have tried. Judging from your character, you wouldn’t just let it slip if you have never tried." Todd knew Wendy too well.
Hearing what Todd said, Wendy bit her lip and said sincerely, "Although I know that you don’t need me to tell you ’thank you’, I don’t know how else should I express my gratitude towards you besides saying that. Todd, I really thank you."
Todd lifted his hand. He initially wanted to pat Wendy’s shoulder.
But his hand paused halfway in the air.
Todd smiled, shaking his head. He didn’t say anything in reply.
It became quiet for a while. Wendy thought and said, "It’s almost time. Let’s leave the office. If you are not tired, let me buy you supper."
Todd took a glance at the time and frowned, saying, "Let’s wait a little longer."
"Huh?" Wendy didn’t understand why Todd asked to wait for a little longer. She asked, "There’s nothing for us to do in the break room."
"We just came in for a few minutes. Did you forget why we came in? What if Mr.
Woods really check the surveillance video. If he sees that we came in and left the break room so quickly, wouldn’t my reputation be ruined?" Todd said and chuckled.
"Huh?"
Wendy was stunned. Then, she finally understood what Todd meant.
She coughed lightly in embarrassment, saying softly, "Then... let’s wait for a while then."
At first, everything felt normal.
But after Todd’s remark, it suddenly became awkward.
Wendy felt uneasy whether sitting or standing, waiting for the time to pass.
After a good fifteen minutes, Wendy couldn’t stay put any longer. Her stomach was growling in hunger too.
It was already so late. She was really hungry.
Todd picked up his jacket and stood up. He said, "Let’s go."
"Shouldn’t we wait a little longer?" Wendy didn’t have much experience. But she recalled that it felt longer when she did it with Michael back then.
They had only come in the break room for about twenty minutes. It seemed a little too early to leave.
"I’m hungry. Let’s go get supper," Todd said.
Todd was actually worried that Wendy was starving.
He heard Wendy’s stomach growling earlier.
Wendy’s health condition wasn’t great to begin with. She used to pass out due to long-term malnutrition.
Wendy stood up and immediately followed behind Todd. She said, "Sure, I am hungry too. But let me buy you a treat tonight. Don’t fight over the bill with me."
