Chapter 357: Better Make It Clear
Todd immediately followed up, "Is there a restaurant you would like to visit? Where do you want to go after dinner? Any arrangement will be fine."
"I have no specific restaurant in mind," Wendy replied. "Let’s get in the car first."
"Okay." Todd nodded at once.
At this point, Todd would have agreed with anything Wendy had said.
It was the first time Wendy took the initiative to invite him to dinner after they ’officially’ became a couple, with only the two of them.
Todd could not help but be excited, as he thought that Wendy might want to have a closer relationship with him.
These days, he accompanied Wendy to and from work every day and made her breakfast. Finally, his hard work paid off.
After getting in the car, Wendy fastened her seat belt and said, "You can pick a restaurant, but we need a private room."
Wendy’s words excited Todd again.
"Okay," Todd replied immediately. "I’ll have my assistant book us a private room right away."
After then, Todd called his assistant.
Soon, the assistant sent him the restaurant’s location.
It was a fancy restaurant 30 minutes away.
The atmosphere in the car was pleasant but quiet. Todd knew that Wendy did not talk much, but he was afraid that the silence would make Wendy uncomfortable. Hence, he started to make small talk. "I have heard of this restaurant before and always wanted to take you there but there’s simply no time. I’m happy that we’re finally going there."
"Yeah," Wendy replied indifferently.
She did not pay attention to Todd’s words at all.
Instead, she was thinking about how to get Todd to talk about HG Enterprise later.
Currently, his relationship with either HG Enterprise or Christian was unclear.
She was considering probing if Todd knew the relationship between HG Enterprise and Christian.
Todd noticed that Wendy was showing little interest, and he wasn’t sure if he should get on talking or stop.
He knew Wendy too well. Sometimes it was more of a curse than a gift.
He was also worried that Wendy would be upset if he said something dull.
Thinking of that, Todd finally turned on the music.
The music was a welcomed distraction, which lessened the awkwardness between them.
Along the way, the two of them were together but with separate thoughts, not speaking to each other.
Upon reaching the place, they immediately got out of the car.
Todd confirmed the reservation, and the waiter took them to a private room.
Todd and Wendy walked side by side as they followed the waiter.
Todd looked down and saw Wendy’s hand slightly swaying as she walked. His heartbeat raced.
Since Wendy took the initiative to invite him out for dinner, wasn’t he supposed to do his part as well?
With that in mind, Todd tried to reach out to hold Wendy’s hand.
However, as soon as he touched Wendy’s hand, the latter moved her hand away.
Wendy thought that it was just an accident and did not care much about it.
She even moved a little farther away to spare Todd more room.
Wendy’s action made Todd frown slightly.
After thinking for a while, Todd wondered if he should be more determined so that Wendy would not misunderstand.
Todd mustered the courage to reach out and hold Wendy’s hand.
Feeling someone holding her hand, Wendy turned her head and immediately pulled out her hand when she realized that it was Todd.
Wendy saw Todd’s flushed face.
As soon as Wendy was about to say something, they reached the private room, and the waiter said, "Here we are. This way, please."
The waiter bowed and helped them push the door open.
"Let’s go in first," Wendy said.
Todd nodded and then walked in after Wendy.
The private room was spacious and had elaborate decorations. Red roses also adorned the room. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
After all, this was a restaurant frequented by couples.
On the couch sat a pair of cute dolls.
The old man had an ’I love you,’ while the old woman had a ’Me too.’
Candles and flowers were on the dining table. The faint fragrance of flowers filled the room.
The music perfectly complemented the ambiance.
The two of them felt relaxed as they went to their seats.
The waiter then handed them the menu.
Wendy ordered two dishes and left the rest to Todd.
As soon as the waiter left, Todd spoke, "I apologize for what I’ve just done." He thought that he acted abruptly and that kind of annoyed Wendy.
Wendy knew that Todd had misunderstood.
Initially, she just wanted to mislead Zen.
Wendy said, "It’s okay."
It was not Wendy’s intention as well.
"Thank you for inviting me tonight." Todd looked at Wendy affectionately.
Todd had been waiting for this day for such a long time.
"Todd, I think I’d better make it clear to you first." Wendy did not want Todd to misunderstand. She was aware that was being cruel to him. "I invite you to dinner today because I have something to discuss with you. There is nothing other than that."
The joy in Todd’s eyes gradually disappeared. Wendy noticed it and felt a little guilty.
He forced a smile and replied, "It’s okay. I can wait for you. If it is not today, it will be tomorrow. If it is not tomorrow, it will be the day after tomorrow. I have plenty of time."
"Todd, you don’t need to be like this." Wendy took a deep breath and bit her lip. She was about to go on but got interrupted by Todd raising his hand.
"They serve food pretty quick here, and we can eat soon," Todd said with a smile. "You must be hungry too. By the way, didn’t you say that you have something to discuss with me? Let’s talk about it while eating."
Todd’s attitude made Wendy feel sorry for him. She was not only guilty but also helpless.
In the beginning, Wendy rejected Todd, but he wouldn’t just give up.
Later, Wendy did think of giving Todd a chance.
Nevertheless, at the time, she knew about the relationship between HG Enterprise and Christian, and she was still ignorant of the relationship between Todd and HG Enterprise until now.
Currently, she had no intention of getting into a relationship with anyone.
However, since Todd did not want to pursue the previous topic, she would not say anything either.
Anyway, both of them knew it well.
The most important thing was the issue she planned to talk about in a while.
The mood turned frigid.
The dishes were served soon.
Todd took some dishes for Wendy as usual.
It was as though nothing happened. Todd smiled and said, "This is your favorite. Have some more."
"Thank you." Wendy looked at Todd as he watched her, holding his chopsticks. He seemed to be waiting for her to eat first.
His bowl was still empty.
Wendy wanted to take some food for him initially, but she remembered what just happened between them. She didn’t want Todd to misunderstand anything. Wendy then dismissed the idea.
Wendy took a bite of her food with her head low. After she swallowed the food, she complimented, "It tastes good. Hurry up and try some."
Todd was really waiting for Wendy to take some food for him, but he obviously didn’t get any from her.
Todd was disappointed. He could only take some on his own and eat them.
They had been eating on their own for quite some time, and none of them spoke again.
Wendy was the one buying Todd the dinner as a treat.
When she saw that they were almost done with the meal, she looked up at Todd and asked, "Todd, you were saying that HG is dangerous. Do you think you could tell me the exact situation?"
"You are buying me dinner tonight to ask about HG?" Todd replied, putting down his chopsticks slowly, as he met Wendy’s gaze. Under the dim light, Wendy’s delicate face looked exquisite. Although she often stay up all night, her skin still looked great. She merely had some dark circles under her eyes.
Wendy’s appearance did not diminish her beauty. On the contrary, her pitiful look made people want to protect her even more.
Todd gulped. His heart was racing.
Wendy lowered her head and replied, "Just casually chatting..."
"Corrine, there are some things that you’d better of not knowing. I suggest you leave HG as soon as possible...," Todd advised. "Leave now if you can."
"How exactly is HG dangerous that you need to repeatedly advise me to leave?" Wendy’s goal of the night was to find out his relationship with HG from Todd and if the entire board of directors in HG was related to a gang.
Although they could already guess, they weren’t certain of it.
It would be best to verify such a matter.
After all, there was a big difference whether only one of the directors or the entire board of directors in HG were related to a gang.
"Why do you have to get to the bottom of it all? Do you really think that I suggest you leave just because I am jealous of you getting the shares in HG? Corrine, I might stop the others from gaining benefit, but I wouldn’t do it to you. It has been so many years. Don’t you trust me at all?" Todd asked.
Wendy smiled, shaking her head. She replied, "It’s not that I don’t trust you, but you don’t know me. Todd, maybe you’ve never really truly known me. I, Wendy, have to know what I want to know. If you don’t tell me today, I will continue to investigate further."
"How are you going to investigate if I don’t tell you?" Todd retorted. "Are you going to ask our mentor or are you going to figure out a way for HG to hold a directors’ meeting?"
Wendy hung her head low. She knew that Todd wouldn’t reveal it so easily.
He would have told her long ago if it was that easy.
Wendy took a deep breath and changed her approach. She then said, "If you really don’t want to tell me, I’ll ask the questions and you answer them. Can you?"
Todd met Wendy’s determined gaze, and he hesitated a few seconds before he nodded.
