Chapter 356: Happy
While sending the file, Wendy said, "You had better hurry up and nail it at any cost, understand?"
Yonina trusted Wendy and believed in her capabilities, so she agreed without hesitation. "Okay, we will handle it for sure. Is there anything else I need to help with?"
She did not even ask Wendy what she should do.
"None for now," Wendy replied. "I will notify you by email as soon as possible if anything comes up."
"Okay." Yonina glanced at Michael, who had an anxious look on his face. She knew what he would like her to say. She nodded and said to Wendy, "By the way, as for Clement’s affairs, it will be best if someone can help you deal with him."
Without waiting for Wendy’s response, Yonina quickly added, "Michael and I will send someone to continue investigating him.
"Both you and I are behind the scenes now, but I am in Lake City, under Christian’s nose.
"As Christian failed to count on DR Group, he can only rely on HG Enterprise.
"You must be the least suspicious person in Christian’s view and stay away from any situation that may trigger his suspicions. Got it?"
"I understand," Wendy answered. "I will not do anything irresponsible. Don’t worry."
"It’s not just about doing something irresponsible. You cannot take ANY risk, even when you think you must," Michael chimed in. He was getting increasingly anxious. "Your safety is the top priority. Anything else is trivial, you know?"
Hearing Michael’s voice, Wendy stayed silent on the phone.
Yonina was a little embarrassed.
She reached out to grab the phone from Michael.
With Michael not being able to control himself, Wendy found out that Yonina was still with him.
Yonina then reasoned to Wendy, "He insists on following me..."
Wendy could not be angry with Yonina.
After a short silence, she said, "I will go to bed now if there’s nothing else. It’s a bit late here."
"Good night, Wendy."
As soon as Yonina finished speaking, Wendy hung up.
Yonina stared at Michael with a reprimanding look. "Why didn’t you just shut up? Did you have to embarrass me? If Wendy suspects that I deliberately lied to her with you, then she won’t answer my calls in the future. Are you happy with that?"
"I..." Michael touched his nose, not sure what to say.
He thought of the email Wendy had just mentioned and urged Yonina, "Check the mailbox. Didn’t Wendy mention that she had sent an email?"
Yonina nodded and left the lounge immediately. She saw a computer on the side and asked, "Can I use it?"
"Of course." Besides Michael’s computer, there were several more in this office.
Yonina immediately sat on the chair and logged in to her secret account.
The person mentioned in Wendy’s email was the inspector of a clothing manufacturer. His information was displayed in detail.
What Wendy wanted them to do was to buy this inspector off.
Yonina and Michael read the email together.
Afterward, the two of them were silent for a while.
"Mr. Lucas, I think you should consider letting your wife return to take over MC Enterprise," Yonina spoke all of a sudden.
Neither of them was stupid.
Wendy told them to let Christian win the bid. Now they knew what her purpose was for suggesting so.
"My wife is the best," Michael said proudly.
However, Michael did not want Wendy to be stressed out.
If possible, he hoped Wendy could live an easy life, however she liked.
...
Yonina’s email had brought Wendy into a deep thought all through the night.
No one knew that there was such a director in HG Enterprise.
However, was such a board member overlooked or an indication of an entire problematic company? freёwebnovel.com
Wendy thought about this carefully. Perhaps she could ask Todd for an answer.
When Todd left HG Enterprise, it had probably something to do with this matter.
If there had been a problem with HG Enterprise, then Todd might have discovered something before he left.
At present, Wendy assumed that HG Enterprise had nothing to do with shady dealings.
Of course, Wendy had great expectations of the company.
After all, she had worked for HG Enterprise for so many years and brought significant profits.
Wendy regretted the thought that she had brought money for a company that was associated with gangs.
The next day, the alarm turned off and Wendy was awakened. She had only slept for a few hours last night and felt she could buy a few more minutes of sleep.
Then again, she had things to do. She could only force herself to get up.
After breakfast, she went to the company with Zen and Todd, who came to pick her up.
During the day, Wendy was a model employee in the eyes of everyone in the company, as she worked hard.
Todd sent Wendy a text message and asked if she was about to leave work.
Wendy planned to talk to Todd in private tonight.
Wendy was typing a reply when Zen knocked on the door and walked in. "Ms. Swift, it’s time to go home. If you plan to work overtime tonight, it’s better to have dinner now."
Zen was Wendy’s assistant, and her job was to take care of Wendy.
She addressed Wendy as Ms. Swift in the company.
Wendy looked at Zen. She needed to send Zen away and meet Todd alone.
"You can leave first. I’m staying late tonight." Wendy stretched out her hand to press her temple, looking very tired. "When you’re home, please tell Zess not to make dinner for me. Also, tell the twins not to wait for me. Send them to bed on time."
"Let me stay here with you," Zen suggested. "Would you like to go to the dining hall or shall I buy something and bring it here?"
Zen’s answer was within Wendy’s expectations but not what she wanted to hear.
Picking up the phone, Wendy looked down and said, "I almost forgot. Todd just sent me a message. He wanted us to have dinner."
Wendy quickly added, "You’d better go home. Seems like I won’t have to stay here long."
"Umm..." Zen certainly understood what Wendy meant and agreed.
Since Todd was Wendy’s boyfriend, it was not unusual for them to be out on a date.
As far as Zen was concerned, if she insisted on staying with Wendy, Wendy would doubt her.
Pursing her lips, Zen nodded and said, "Then I will wait for Mr. Lewis to pick you up before I leave."
Wendy nodded but said nothing.
Afterward, Zen turned and left the office.
Seeing Zen leaving, Wendy sent out her reply.
[Right away. Let’s go get dinner.]
...
Todd was not that happy to receive Wendy’s reply.
As every time Wendy invited him to dinner, there was always the third wheel.
Although they were pretending to be a couple, they did not have much contact in private.
Zen was with them even after work.
However, Todd replied to the message immediately: [Okay, I will come and pick you up then.]
Usually, Todd did not take the car to pick Wendy up. Lewis Design Company, HG Enterprise, or Wendy’s place were nearby and would take a few minutes’ walk.
He saw it as merely an exercise.
But tonight, Wendy asked to dine out, so Todd drove his car.
Soon, Todd arrived.
Wendy was waiting for him downstairs.
Seeing Todd parked his car and then got off the car, Wendy beckoned to him, "Todd."
Many people were leaving and passing by the hall.
Seeing Todd came to pick Wendy up again, someone glanced at them, full of envy.
"Mr. Lewis is so sweet. He accompanies our boss on and off work every day."
"At first, I thought that Mr. Lewis would eventually get tired of it, dropping off and picking up every day. However, he proved me wrong."
"God, please give me a Todd. I am willing to exchange it with 10 years of my co-worker’s life."
"Which of your colleague in particular? Can you make it clear to me?"
...
Wendy was not in the mood to pay attention to their comments.
People passing by greeted Wendy, and she nodded with a smile.
At this moment, Zen was behind her. Wendy saw Todd walk over and said to Zen, "Todd is here. You can leave. Since the building is very close to home, we are not going to send you back."
"No worries," Zen said quickly with a smile. "I need some exercise anyway. Enjoy your dinner."
Todd just came over and frowned when he heard Zen’s words. He asked, a bit surprised, "Aren’t you coming with us?"
"Huh?" Zen seemed taken aback. "No, I’m not. Didn’t Wendy say that you invited her to dinner? It would be awkward for me to join you two."
"Didn’t Corrine say that she was inviting me to dinner?" Todd was even more puzzled.
Wendy heard their conversation and immediately chimed in, "I invited you to dinner, didn’t I?"
Then Wendy lowered her head, looking embarrassed.
Zen understood in an instant, and her smile became brighter. "I’m leaving now. Enjoy your dinner and have fun."
The message Wendy passed to Zen was that Todd invited her to dinner because she was embarrassed to tell Zen directly.
And not taking Zen with them meant that Wendy wanted to get along with Todd alone.
Moreover, when Wendy first asked Zen to go home alone, she seemed to be sending the latter away on purpose.
After realizing that she got it wrong, Zen certainly avoided being the third wheel.
Also, Zen and Todd held the same view.
Todd was a little flattered that his eyes sparkled. With a wide smile, he confirmed, "Corrine, are the two of us having dinner tonight?"
"Of course. Wendy blinked. "Who else do you want to be with?"
"No, no, I didn’t mean that." Todd was somehow at a loss and immediately said, "I mean, I’m really happy."
