Chapter 121: Inflict All The Pain Back

"Three!" Michael remained in front of the car without any intention to move out of the way.

Wendy hated Michael. She hated his overbearing and arrogant attitude! A few simple explanations and apologies could not undo the damage that he had brought upon her during their three years of marriage. What on earth was giving him the courage to stand in front of her now?

’It’s been five years and yet he is so sure that he can talk his way through?’ Wendy fumed. ’Does he think that I wouldn’t dare to run him over?’

Wendy had returned to Lake City full of hatred, yet Michael was so blinded by his ego that he still seemed to think that she was the same person who had loved him, heart and soul, five years ago. All Wendy could feel now was the anger burning inside her while looking at Michael.

Now, she was known as Corrine Swift; the old Wendy who was worth nothing no longer existed.

She stepped on the gas pedal, and the car moved forward at full speed. In an instant, Michael was hit! He fell to the side of the road with a miserable scream of pain.

"Oh my god!" Jake had been listening to the conversation between the two adults from the back seat of the car. He had kept silent because he knew it was between his Mother and Michael.

But he didn’t expect that his Mother would actually drive over to Michael.

Initially Jake only knew that Mommy disliked Michael. He’d guessed that Michael must have done something to disappoint Mommy.

However, what Mommy had just done by running over Michael proved that his initial assumption was wrong.

No, to be precise, he hadn’t thought about the situation accurately enough. Instead of merely disliking Michael, Mommy clearly hated him.

How many things had Michael done in the past to disappoint Mommy, forcing someone as kind and gentle as her to drive over him?

Wendy did not stop her car after hitting Michael.

Instead, she just drove off. ’He deserves it for boldly blocking my way!’ Wendy thought.

Jake turned and looked back at Michael through the car window as they drove further and further away. He was a little worried about Michael.

After all, he had been hit directly by a car and was probably injured.

However, the cars hadn’t been going very fast, so Michael should be fine without any major injuries. On top of that, they’d been at the Lucas’ family home. Someone would probably find him very soon. So, after taking one last look at Michael, Jake withdrew his gaze.

’Take this as a small lesson from my mom,’ Jake thought.

Arriving home, Wendy had not calmed down. It had been five years, but it was still vivid in her mind. She went to the bathroom and turned on the shower. Warm water flowed down the top of her head. Wendy closed her eyes; her mind full of images of him coldly forcing her to go to the hospital to undergo an abortion five years ago.

She had knelt on the ground and begged him at the time, but Michael hadn’t budged. In Michael’s heart, Wendy meant nothing to him at all.

Over the past five years, Wendy had buried her hatred for Michael deep in her heart. She had never once mentioned it to anyone. If it were not for Michael standing in front of her car and blocking her way, she wouldn’t have lost control over her emotions. Even after five years, he believed that Wendy still loved him and wouldn’t harm him.

It was his arrogance that Wendy couldn’t accept.

Not just his arrogance, but Wendy could not stand her old self, who had been so ignorant and lowly. Every one of Michael’s actions reminded her of all the things that she had done that had been so ridiculous, even her love for him.

"Mummy, can I sleep With you tonight?" Jake noticed something was wrong with Wendy.

Wendy grew moodier from the moment she drove back home.

This is the first time that Jake has seen Wendy in this state of mind.

For the first time, Jake made the request to sleep with her after sleeping on his own all this time.

In the past, Wendy would accompany Jake to sleep, but he refused and kept saying that he was no longer a kid.

Wendy reached out and stroked Jake’s head, knowing that he was worried about her.

However, Wendy didn’t refuse his request and hugged him to bed.

Wendy didn’t sleep well all night.

She had nightmares again that occurred countless times in the past.

Fortunately, Jake is by her side.

Waking up in the night and seeing Jake’s little hand patting her shoulder to comfort her, Wendy’s heart slowly calmed down.

...

The next day, Wendy went to work as usual.

No matter how huge of mood swings she had the day before, she could still hide it from everyone in the company.

In the past five years, she learned to manage her emotions.

In the morning, there was a knock on the office door. Wendy looked up, saw Mr. York, and said, "Please come in."

Mr. York walked in anxiously and asked, "Wendy, do you know where the president has gone?"

"Where did Michael go, why are you asking me?"

Wendy lowered her head, holding a pen and continuing to look at the document in her hand. She hasn’t been in MC for a long time, but her work is on track. There are many things to be busy on hand. However, Wendy was a little surprised by Mr. York’s words.

"In fact, I haven’t seen Michael today. I can’t get in touch with the president. He has been out of contact since last night."

Mr. York’s tone became more and more anxious, "I didn’t want to trouble you, but I think that maybe only you can contact the president now."

"Have you tried calling him?"

Wendy asked without looking up. "I tried but I couldn’t get through."

"If you can’t get through the phone, I can’t get through either." Wendy pursed her lips and said.

Although Wendy was calm on the face, the hand holding the pen had stopped.

It’s really strange to Mr. York that Michael is nowhere to be found.

It would make sense if Michael hid from Mr. York. But if not, does that mean Wendy hurt him badly last night? To the point that no one can get in touch with him?

Blinking slightly, Wendy remembered what happened last night. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Although she was angry and hit hard on the accelerator the car was just starting to pick up speed.

Michael was so close to the car when Wendy ran into him so logically it shouldn’t have caused a big problem.

A slight injury at most.

It is impossible for Wendy to kill Michael at his own house.

Even if something did happen, people in his house should have found him.

Mr. York in desperate, "I am afraid that something bad might happen to Michael. This is the first time that he is un-contactable. Wendy, I believe that you can definitely find him if you decide to help out."

"Mr. York must be joking, MC Enterprise’s power in Lake City is overwhelming. As Michael’s top assistant, you can’t find anyone you want. How can I find him."

"But Wendy, you are his wife." Mr.York said, "I know you hate the president, so you have been refusing to admit your identity, but..."

Wendy waved his hand and interrupted Mr. York. She raised her head, looked at Mr. York, and said with a calm face: "Mr. York, I am here to cooperate with MC Enterprise, not to help you find someone. It’s office hours now. I think you know better than anyone else about the company’s rules and regulations."

"Sorry for disturbing you."

Mr. York had no choice but to leave the office.

Wendy refused to help therefore Mr. York could only increase his manpower to find Michael.

Wendy was surprised that she had lost contact with Michael.

Michael was hit in his own house last night. Even if something had gone wrong, someone would have found out shortly. If he had disappeared, there was only one possibility, that is, he had not been injured. In other words, the collision had not been serious, and that he had left by himself.

Pursing her lips, Wendy picked up the phone beside her. After hesitating, she called Michael.

Not surprisingly, the phone was turned off. It seemed that Michael did not want anyone to find him.

Wendy didn’t know what happened to Michael. But if he decided to be alone, then let him be.

However, at noon, Wendy received a call from Mr. York.

"Wendy, we have found the president. He is in the hospital now. Is it possible for you to see him?" Mr. York’s tone was anxious.

Wendy frowned and asked, "In the hospital?"

"Um... " Mr. York sighed slightly and said, "I’m unsure of the specifics. When I had someone look for the president, he was already unconscious. The president had bruises on his body. He had also been drinking too much alcohol, so the wound infection caused a high fever."

After a pause, Mr. York said, "I know you are his wife. The president had been looking for you for the past five years. I know he used to badly treat you, but he had placed you in an important position in his heart. The reason I am calling you, based on my understanding of the president, is that he must have hoped that the first person he sees after waking up is you."

Hearing what Mr. York said, Wendy, recalled the praises about Michael from those on the internet.

It turned out that in the eyes of all of them, Michael had been an infatuated husband. freёwebnovel.com

But who knew how he treated her in the first place? Wendy would never forget those injuries.

This pain was irreversible and could never be erased with his words and public image.

"I’m not a doctor. He should get treatment in the hospital to recover. When he wakes up, tell him I will manage the MC design department." After speaking, Wendy hung up the phone without mercy.

"But..." the phone line cut before Mr. York could say anything else. Listening to the disconnected tone on the phone, Mr. York could only sigh again.

Mr. York knew exactly what happened five years ago.

He initially had thought that since the wife had returned, the matter between them would have been handled. Unexpectedly, Wendy had become so cruel.

The president was unconscious in the hospital, but she had refused to visit him. He had also known that the president had hurt his wife, but he was trying to make up for it.

Even if he was a sinner, there should be a chance for atonement. Mr. York felt that the president hadn’t been treated fairly.

For the whole afternoon, Wendy hadn’t been in the mood for work.

Mr. York said that Michael had bruises on his body and that drinking alcohol had caused the wound to become infected and have a high fever. In other words, she had hurt Michael last night Was the reason Michael would drink was that he was hurt by her actions?

Thinking of this possibility, Wendy suddenly laughed.

Oh, finally, the day had arrived, the day that you actually felt sad and hurt by my actions.

This was regarded as the first thing Wendy had successfully done after returning to the country. However, this was far from over.

The injuries that he had suffered now were far lesser than what she had been through.

"I, Wendy, will slowly but surely inflict all this pain back to you, Michael!"
