Chapter 684: Chapter 684: Snowfield Chase
"Alright, since Senior Chen has said so, it would be rude to refuse. Welcome aboard, Senior Chen," Dong Qilong said with a smile, but his words lacked any real respect.
After all, Chen Fengyuan’s strength was comparable to his, and Dong Qilong himself was at the Peak State of an Ancient Warrior. He had no reason to fear Chen Fengyuan. Moreover, with Dong Qibao present, the two brothers were certain that Chen Fengyuan would be unable to snatch the Nameless Sword from them.
Hearing Dong Qilong’s words, Chen Fengyuan sneered inwardly. He could clearly sense the disrespect in Dong Qilong’s tone. This is just how the world works!
He had already made his decision. After we kill Lin Kuang, I’ll break my seal. With that temporary surge of power, I’ll eliminate these guys. Then I’ll leave with the Nameless Sword, and no one will ever find me.
"Good, let’s work together then. However, we’ll need to make some skis—some wooden boards. It’ll make us much faster," Chen Fengyuan said with a smile.
Hearing this, Dong Qilong and the others nodded in agreement. They had just seen Xiao Chenfeng use skis with impressive speed and were quite envious. With that, Dong Qilong ordered his men to procure some wooden boards while the rest of them waited. Since Lin Kuang was using skis and had left tracks in the snow, they weren’t worried about losing him.
Meanwhile, Lin Kuang and Xiao Chenfeng were racing along at an incredible velocity.
"Why are you helping me? Weren’t you trying to kill me?" Lin Kuang couldn’t help but ask, glancing at the man beside him.
Xiao Chenfeng smiled faintly. "I’m used to being free and doing as I please. No one can control me. As for helping you... it’s simple. I felt like it. That’s all," he said, looking at Lin Kuang. For a man like him, who was neither wholly righteous nor completely evil, his actions were dictated entirely by his whims.
Lin Kuang frowned. He didn’t know if he could trust Xiao Chenfeng, especially since the man had attacked him before.
Xiao Chenfeng noticed the doubt in Lin Kuang’s eyes but paid it no mind. As long as he was enjoying himself, he truly didn’t care what others thought.
The two continued skiing, and Xiao Chenfeng spoke again. "I heard you’re looking for the Ice Silkworm? That thing isn’t easy to find. It’s not extinct, but it’s close. Moreover, the creature seems to love eating the leaves of the Ming Leng Zhe. If you want to find the Ice Silkworm, you have to find the Ming Leng Zhe. Otherwise, you don’t stand a chance."
Lin Kuang was slightly startled. He hadn’t expected Xiao Chenfeng to be so knowledgeable about the Ice Silkworm; it seemed he was quite familiar with the topic.
"I know I need to find the Ming Leng Zhe, but I have no idea where such a strange tree grows. I can only search aimlessly," Lin Kuang said indifferently, though internally he felt a bit helpless. He had no other choice but to continue his slow search.
"The Ming Leng Zhe grows in lands of extreme ice, and this area isn’t the coldest. If you want to find it, your best chance is on the highest peak of the Snow Mountain. Or perhaps on the shaded side of that peak, away from the sun. I don’t think you’ll find anything searching down here," Xiao Chenfeng stated calmly.
Lin Kuang furrowed his brow. He felt Xiao Chenfeng had no reason to lie to him.
"Alright, I’ll give it a try. I’ll head up there and look." With that, Lin Kuang shifted his stance, turning his skis and heading straight for the highest summit of the Snow Mountain.
Seeing this, Xiao Chenfeng did the same, turning his skis to follow Lin Kuang toward the mountain’s highest point. Lin Kuang said nothing as Xiao Chenfeng caught up, simply focusing on controlling his skis and speeding onward. Xiao Chenfeng also fell silent, so the two continued their journey wordlessly.
Meanwhile, Chen Fengyuan, Dong Qilong, Dong Qibao, Fan Mohao, and Fan Moran were also in hot pursuit. Following the trail left by Lin Kuang and Xiao Chenfeng in the snow, Chen Fengyuan’s group easily closed in on their position. After a high-speed chase, they once again caught sight of the two figures ahead.
"They’re just ahead! We have to kill him this time!" Chen Fengyuan exclaimed, his eyes brimming with murderous intent as he gazed at Lin Kuang.
"Right, we must kill him this time! Everyone, let’s pick up the pace and catch up to him!" Dong Qilong urged.
The group nodded in agreement, pushing off with more force. Their wooden skis slid even faster as they raced after Lin Kuang.
"Looks like they’re catching up," Xiao Chenfeng remarked with a smile, glancing back at Chen Fengyuan’s group without a hint of concern.
"I know. Let them chase," Lin Kuang replied. With a surge of True Qi, the speed of his skis suddenly skyrocketed.
Just then, Xiao Chenfeng abruptly veered away from Lin Kuang, heading off in a different direction and disappearing to do who-knows-what.
Lin Kuang paid him no mind. The man was too strange, and Lin Kuang wanted no connection with him, nor did he want to provoke him.
Seeing Xiao Chenfeng leave, Chen Fengyuan’s group didn’t pursue him. Their target was Lin Kuang; they didn’t care about Xiao Chenfeng. Chen Fengyuan was slightly irritated, as he had planned on killing Xiao Chenfeng as well, but the kid had slipped away. Still, it didn’t matter since his primary target was Lin Kuang.
Lin Kuang continued to accelerate, moving faster and faster as he glided across the towering Snow Mountain. Feeling the snowflakes fluttering around him, his mood was actually quite good.
"Dammit, this kid is too fast! If this keeps up, we’ll never be able to trap him," Dong Qilong couldn’t help but say as he watched Lin Kuang’s figure grow more distant.
"I have an idea," Fan Mohao said after a moment’s thought. "Moran and I will look for a shortcut. If we find one, we can intercept him from the front." It was clear that otherwise, they would never catch Lin Kuang.
Dong Qilong nodded. "Good. I’ll leave it to you two. I hope you succeed."
"Don’t mention it. We’re all here to kill him anyway," Fan Mohao replied. He and Fan Moran then broke away from the group, searching for another path in an attempt to cut Lin Kuang off.
When the Fan brothers departed, Lin Kuang sensed it but remained unconcerned. He didn’t care even if they managed to surround him—not because he was confident he could defeat so many experts, but because he had another plan in mind.
And sure enough, Fan Mohao and Fan Moran found a shortcut. Thrilled, the two of them sped along it, heading straight for Lin Kuang.
