Chapter 672: Chapter 672: Reluctant Departure

Chen Fengyuan naturally thought of this as well, his heart filled with anger as he watched Lin Kuang sprinting ahead at extreme speed.

"Assassin kid, use the branches around you to shoot him! Slow him down!" Chen Fengyuan shouted, glancing back at Xiao Chenfeng.

"Okay, I understand," Xiao Chenfeng nodded. He quickly snapped off several branches from a nearby tree and, in the next instant, launched them like dozens of swift arrows straight at Lin Kuang.

Sensing the fierce gust of wind from behind, Lin Kuang’s expression shifted subtly. These two bastards, do they really think this will work on me? They won’t get their way! He snorted inwardly, fully aware of how powerful his Extreme Shadow Illusion was. A dense barrage of branches was nothing to him.

His figure began to flicker, moving across the ground as evasively as a fish in water.

THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!

A series of thuds echoed as the branches either punched clean through tree trunks or embedded themselves deeply within the wood. Not a single one touched Lin Kuang. Furthermore, his speed hadn’t slowed in the slightest. He was as fast as ever.

Seeing this, Chen Fengyuan’s face turned ugly, his eyes burning with an indescribable fury.

"Damn kid, if you have any guts, stop running!" Chen Fengyuan roared.

Hearing this, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but sneer. "Are you stupid, or am I? Two of you ganging up on me, and you want me to just stand still? Do you think I’m an idiot like you?"

Lin Kuang’s mocking tone made Chen Fengyuan stomp his feet in fury.

"Kid, don’t let me catch you, or I’ll tear you to pieces!" Chen Fengyuan yelled, his face flushing red.

"Don’t worry. You won’t catch me, so you won’t get the chance to tear me to pieces," Lin Kuang replied calmly.

"I will catch you!" Chen Fengyuan shouted again.

"Give it up," Lin Kuang said placidly. "You can’t."

Hearing this, Chen Fengyuan gritted his teeth in frustration. He’s right there in front of me! How humiliating would it be if I can’t catch him? Moreover, if he slipped away, finding him again would be incredibly difficult. Chen Fengyuan couldn’t let him out of his sight.

"Assassin kid! Use branches! Attack! Disrupt his speed! Even if you can’t slow him down, keep attacking. I refuse to believe we can’t handle him!" Chen Fengyuan roared furiously.

Xiao Chenfeng nodded. Deciding it was worth a shot, he attacked again, hurling branches, leaves—anything he could get his hands on—at Lin Kuang.

With a calm demeanor, Lin Kuang weaved through the projectiles. He moved like a butterfly flitting among flowers, his motions light and graceful.

"Chen Fengyuan, Xiao Chenfeng, I’ll deal with you both later," Lin Kuang’s calm voice drifted back. "It’s getting dark, so don’t be impatient. We can play this game slowly!"

As he spoke, his already incredible speed kicked up another notch. He darted between the trees, moving faster than ever.

At the sight, both Chen Fengyuan and Xiao Chenfeng’s expressions changed drastically, their eyes wide with shock. Lin Kuang was too fast—even faster than they had anticipated. The realization was both frustrating and disheartening.

Chen Fengyuan gritted his teeth but ultimately held back. He had an ace up his sleeve, but he wasn’t certain he could catch Lin Kuang even with it, so he made no move.

"Damn kid, you just wait! You can’t escape on Heavenly Mountain! The next time I see you, I will kill you!" Chen Fengyuan spat, his eyes brimming with murderous intent.

Xiao Chenfeng curled his lip. This old guy is pretty arrogant. He can’t even catch him now, what makes him think he can catch him next time? What a joke.

"Mr. Chen, goodbye for now. Let’s cooperate again if the opportunity arises," Xiao Chenfeng said. With a flicker of movement, he was gone.

Chen Fengyuan didn’t stop him. Having a Skyline-level assassin around forced even him to be cautious, so Xiao Chenfeng’s departure suited him just fine. With that thought, Chen Fengyuan charged off in the direction Lin Kuang had gone. He didn’t know Lin Kuang’s destination, but following his tracks was better than searching blindly. He might even run into him again.

However, Chen Fengyuan had gravely underestimated Lin Kuang. He was a battle-hardened warrior, not some naive child. After shaking off his pursuers, Lin Kuang deliberately changed his route. Chen Fengyuan, doggedly following the original trail, had no idea where his prey was truly headed.

Seeing the pitch-black sky, Lin Kuang decided to stop for the night. This wasn’t a task to be completed in a single day. He scanned his surroundings, then leaped high into the canopy of a large tree. Landing on a thick branch, he was immediately enveloped by the dense leaves, completely hidden from view from the ground.

Satisfied, Lin Kuang leaned against the tree trunk and took out food from his backpack, which he had prepared in advance. Compressed biscuits, sausage, and mineral water—enough to stave off his hunger. After a simple meal, he leaned back against the trunk, closed his eyes, and began to rest.

Elsewhere in the dense forest, Chen Fengyuan had also found a place to rest, while Xiao Chenfeng had similarly gone into hiding.

Meanwhile, members of the Pei and Fan Families began to appear in the forest. The Pei Family group immediately made camp to rest for the night. The Fan Family members, however, fanned out, combing through the trees in search of Lin Kuang. They were the most eager to kill him. Family Head Fan Wudao had given the order, and they had to obey, which was why their search was so diligent.

Lin Kuang, of course, knew nothing of this. He was resting comfortably in his leafy perch.

About an hour later, two middle-aged men appeared beneath the very tree where Lin Kuang was hidden. They sat down at its base, their expressions grim.

"Why’d we get saddled with such a lousy job?" one of them complained in a low voice. "We’d be so much better off eating and drinking back at the Fan Family estate instead of being out here searching for some guy named Lin Kuang."

"That’s enough. You’ve been grumbling this whole time," the other man chided. "This is what the Fan Family supports us for—to be of use when needed. Did you really think we could just stay there forever and do nothing? Is that even possible?"

The first man sighed. "You’re right, but this forest is immense. How are we supposed to find anyone in here?"
