Chapter 1594: Chapter 1594: An Encounter in the Palace
From that year on, the human trafficking chain in Lorelei was cut off.
Because they could never find her younger sister, her mother was depressed every day, and in the end she pined away and died.
It was also from that year that Ian Shelby resolved to become a doctor!
But this idea met with his father’s fierce opposition, so because of this the relationship between father and son broke down and entered a deep freeze.
On top of his sister’s disappearance, Ian had always felt deeply guilty. He didn’t want to enjoy all the splendor and privilege of the royal family alone; he felt he wasn’t worthy.
And his sister and mother’s departure made it hard for him to breathe; he wanted to go out and look for his sister.
So Ian left a letter and departed from the royal family, vowing not to return until he found his sister.
In the blink of an eye, twenty years had passed...
He had been through a lot, from hope to despair; his sister was never found.
As for medicine, he did manage to complete his studies; that was at least a small comfort.
But now his father had been slowly poisoned for five years, which made Ian unbearably sad again. Was Heaven playing a joke on him?
At this moment, Jocelyn Morgan had already arrived at the palace gates. She only suspected that Prince Louis might be Ian Shelby, but she couldn’t be a hundred percent sure.
She saw a servant standing at the entrance and carefully walked toward him, only to be stopped. "Miss, did you come to the wrong place?"
Jocelyn had to stop. She craned her neck to look inside the house but didn’t see anyone.
But she had to confirm whether this Prince Louis was Ian.
So she put on a friendly smile and said very politely to the servant, "Hello, I’m here to see Prince Louis."
In the side hall inside the residence, Ian vaguely heard Jocelyn’s familiar voice, dreamlike and unreal.
He hurriedly glanced toward the doorway, then quickly put down the photograph and the bracelet in his hand, closed the drawer, and stepped outside.
At the entrance, the servant said courteously to Jocelyn, "You can’t see Prince Louis just because you want to. Who are you to him? Do you know each other? Maybe you should call him first?"
"..." How could she possibly call him.
Jocelyn was blocked there, anxiously peering inside.
Just when she didn’t know what to do, just when the servant was about to drive her away, she suddenly saw Ian coming out!
Familiar as ever, he walked toward the doorway. Jocelyn’s expression stayed calm, but she held her breath; the joy and sense of peace in her heart were beyond words.
It really was him!
Prince Louis really was him!
"What is it?" Ian’s gaze fell on the servant and he also saw Jocelyn. He walked toward the entrance, his expression cool and aloof.
The servant turned his eyes at the sound, "Good day, Prince. This young lady wishes to see you, and I stopped her."
Jocelyn kept in mind what he had said on WeChat and clearly understood the situation between them.
So she answered with a smile, "Hello, Prince. I saw that you had a lot of Freesias delivered here." As she spoke, she glanced around the courtyard.
Ian stopped in front of her, his calm, gentle gaze falling on her face.
The dark circles under her eyes were so heavy—had she been losing sleep?
Jocelyn drew back her gaze, lifted her eyes to Ian again, and went on, "I also really like growing this plant, but I’ve never been able to keep it alive, so I came to ask you for some tips on how to take care of it."
Their eyes met, and in front of the servant, neither of them let the slightest ripple show, like two very seasoned actors.
This was their first meeting after parting ways, and they tacitly pretended not to know each other.
The servant didn’t notice anything amiss either.
Ian didn’t answer Jocelyn’s question right away. Instead, he looked at the servant and spoke gently, "Please go and purchase ten more pots of Freesias. I want to give them to this young lady."
Then Ian said to Jocelyn, "There isn’t much technique to growing flowers; it just depends on the variety. You must have bought one of the harder kinds to raise."
The servant was slightly taken aback and replied, "All right, it’s just that it will take some time. The nearby flower shops are all sold out; I’ll have to go farther."
"Go on." Ian nodded.
