Chapter 159: Don’t... touch her!

"Sixth Veils..."

Alaric could see it.

A demon can partially descend into the body of a Sixth Veil Host. The worst part is that because it is only a Sixth Veil, Demons usually do not care about the body they are descending into, they only focus on their goal.

"You really are sharp, aren’t you, Commander Ashcroft."

Orpheus grinned.

"These two are known for their endurance. They aren’t very strong, but they can damn well act like a wall. I brought these two especially for you, you know, to keep you busy and everything."

Alaric completely ignored him. He moved towards the second Host, the ring on his finger flashed, the Host stumbled for a short second, and Alaric used that moment to drive his knee into the enemy’s throat.

"Khrriieeekk!!"

The Host choked, but the next second, he grinned. Alaric didn’t care. He moved past him, towards the Choir, but the first Host was already standing behind him, waiting for him.

Soon, the second Host stood as well.

And Alaric—

He was surrounded.

Orpheus watched it all with interest.

"They aren’t here to kill you, Commander.

But don’t underestimate them, because I do admit, watching them try would be very entertaining."

He laughed playfully, clearly thinking the situation was completely under his control, but then—

"Khaarrrkkkk!!!"

Lucian coughed out blood again. He was still on both his knees, the pressure above him unbearable, pressing down on his shoulders, his back, his skull.

Drops of blood fell from both his nose and mouth, his body trembled violently, every muscle being strained to an impossible level, but this time—

He didn’t just stay down.

"Hhrrhhhh!!"

His fingers curled, the floor beneath him cracked even more, but then, his right leg moved, he dragged his knee on the ground and planted his foot in front of him.

He was ready to stand.

And once he did—

He was going to tear that bastard apart.

Lucian glared at Nolan, his violet eyes shining so dangerously that, for a moment, even his grin faltered.

But then—

"Kharrkkk!!"

Lucian coughed out blood again and his body collapsed. He was back on both his knees.

Why?

Because the Choir of Kneeling Flesh had now surrounded him and Evelyn, which, for some reason, increased the pressure on him even further.

Lila was no longer with them. She was busy shooting the incoming wave of Hosts that were coming towards them. If she hadn’t, Sarah and Elise would have been overwhelmed. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Lucian!!"

Evelyn screamed in worry.

She couldn’t feel the pressure Lucian was feeling. Lucian was their only target, the rest could move however they wanted.

Evelyn clenched her fists, her hands moving towards Lucian’s gun. She wanted to shoot the five bastards who had surrounded them but—

"N-No..."

Lucian glared at her with red eyes and shook his head.

Evelyn couldn’t see it, but Lucian could. A few Hosts were only standing a few meters away from them, specifically keeping an eye on the Choir.

He could tell that they would only move in case someone attacked the Choir, and Lucian couldn’t have that.

Hosts had weak control. With how weak Evelyn was, she might die if they made a move.

"S-Stay put..."

Lucian instructed.

Evelyn’s face was now covered in tears and snot. She was horrified, but it was more about Lucian being hurt than her own well-being.

As for Orpheus, when he saw Lucian collapse again, his smile returned.

"To think you’d actually be able to move.

You really are quite troublesome, huh?"

He couldn’t help but mutter out loud.

"No wonder he prepared more for you even when you aren’t even the commander."

He praised.

"When he first mentioned you, I just snorted. I didn’t even care, but his anger was very apparent. You managed to piss him off quite a bit when you first met him.

Honestly, respect, man.

I never saw him that agitated before. What did you even do?"

He asked curiously.

Lucian, however, didn’t answer. He only glared at him, wanting to rip him apart.

Soon, however, he activated Red Quiet and killed his hatred, agony, helplessness, and frustration. Orpheus did not matter. He was only a regular human. He didn’t plan anything here, he was only enjoying the power trip. It must be a part of his deal with Vaelrith.

The real issue was the demons around them. Lucian needed to find a way out.

"Not gonna answer?"

Orpheus tilted his head.

"Well, not that it matters now."

He shrugged.

"After all, in the end, he still won.

Though he did want me to pass you this one message.

Hmm, what was it again?

Ah right."

Orpheus’s grin widened and—

"I did say you will care, now it is time you do."

He passed the message, then he shrugged again.

"I don’t know what that means, honestly.

What is it you care about?"

He wondered, then, his eyes shone as if he remembered something else.

"Right, he also told me to tell you what is going to happen to the Star you are so hell-bent on protecting."

He smiled as he momentarily looked at Evelyn. Lucian reacted strongly. The instant Nolan’s gaze fell on Evelyn, his eyes flared with anger, the effects of Red Quiet breaking.

CRACK

He tried to move again, but the floor beneath him cracked even further, the pressure on him increased even more, and more blood came out of his nose and dropped onto the floor.

"Do not force yourself too much."

Orpheus smiled.

"He won’t like it if you break before I finish speaking."

Then, he lifted two fingers and—

"Bring her."

He commanded, looking at Evelyn. Two Hosts who hadn’t moved till now moved, walking towards Evelyn.

"Stay back!"

Lila, who was fighting other Hosts, screamed, but she couldn’t move at all. She was already facing three Third Veil Hosts.

The two Hosts continued to move towards Evelyn, Lucian’s body trembling even harder, then, in a hoarse, rough voice.

"Don’t."

He forced out.

Orpheus’s eyes lowered to him.

"What was that?"

Lucian looked at him, his eyes practically burning with intense hatred and anger.

"Don’t... touch her!"

Orpheus only raised his hand.

"I am not touching her, man."

His gaze shifted back to the approaching Hosts.

"They are."

He grinned. That was when one of the Hosts approached Evelyn and grabbed her wrist.

"NO!!"

Evelyn screamed.
