Chapter 120: Werewolves.
KRIEEEKKKK
"Fuck!"
The driver cursed as he applied the brakes, the car stopped suddenly, Evelyn’s body jerked forward but Lucian caught her shoulder before she could hit the seat in front of her.
Then, he looked around.
The van in front of them, the crowd behind them.
"We’re boxed in!"
The driver shouted.
And just then, Lucian’s ears picked up movement behind them, amid all the screams, sirens, engines, and panic, he heard footsteps, not of the panicking civilians, footsteps of someone approaching them, heavy, direct footsteps that clearly weren’t here for autographs.
Lucian reacted.
"Commander, behind!"
He warned and Alaric moved that very instant, without questioning or doubting Lucian at all. Half his body moved out through the window, and in the same motion, a gun appeared in his hand.
Bang Bang
Two shots.
One to the forehead.
One to the heart.
The man charging toward the back of the car collapsed instantly.
"!!!"
Evelyn’s eyes widened in horror as she turned around and saw everything from the back window.
They....
They killed him!
They killed him just like that!
Without any hesitation whatsoever!
But then—
Something that horrified her even more happened.
The man who was shot ’dead’ moved, his fingers scraped against the road, he lifted his bloodied head that clearly had a hole right in the forehead, then, his spine bent at a wrong angle, his shoulders twitched, his jaw pushed forward, teeth lengthened until they no longer fit inside his human mouth.
His fingers darkened, nails lengthened into something that resembled claws, dark hair came out of his neck and arms and his eyes turned animalistic.

Evelyn, who saw it all happen right in front of her, felt her eyes widen in horror.
Lucian’s expression changed as well.
He recognised the being.
"Werewolves..."
He had never seen one in real life, but he did read about them in the Enclave Files that he had been reading all this while to learn more about the world he was in.
One of the five most active supernatural races.
In the modern age, many of them worked in private security, wilderness control, smuggling routes, or mercenary jobs, most packs preferred protection work, it suited their nature better.
Guarding territory.
Guarding people as if they were their own.
But this...
This was not guarding...
This was hunting...
That too, hunting a normal human who had nothing to do with them.
No.
This was not a normal pack.
Packless.
These must be the young wolves who were kicked out for breaking rules, or desperate mercenaries from a weak pack that had lost their land and pride.
"WHAT IS THAT!?"
Evelyn screamed in horror.
Lucian turned toward her, snapping out of his reverie, but before he could calm her down—
"MONSTER!!!"
Another scream came from outside, he looked and his eyes fell on another Werewolf that had transformed.
And then another.
One more.
Another and a few more.
Six of them in total.
"MONSTERS!!"
"RUN!!"
The people screamed in horror, the panic that spread this time was even worse, fire, smoke and gunshots, this was something they had still seen, something their minds could still process.
But...
Monsters...?
That changed everything.
And the chaos shot up.
"RUNN!!!"
The people ran in every direction, this time, even more erratically than before. If a few still cared about Evelyn before, now no one did, not the normal people, not the media or paparazzi obsessed with her.
They only wanted to get away from those things that had just appeared out of nowhere.
"Cross."
That was when Alaric called out.
Lucian looked at him, actively waiting for a plan as to how they were going to deal with the situation at hand but—
"Leave with Starling."
Alaric ordered and for a moment, Lucian hesitated.
Leave?
With those things still there...?
What about Alaric...?
Soon however, he snapped back.
"Right."
This wasn’t the time to think, this was the moment where he trusted Alaric and moved.
"What? No, wait—what are those things? What is happening?"
Evelyn reacted, trying to ask questions, Lucian didn’t answer, he opened the door and pulled her out as gently as the situation allowed.
"Lucian—!"
Evelyn tried to speak but—
"Hold on."
"To what?"
"To me."
He spoke, Evelyn barely understood his words, but Lucian, who had already lifted her in his arms, looked at the werewolves one last time and—
He kicked the ground, landed on the hood of the car, then jumped to the side wall of the service lane, and before Evelyn could understand what happened.
Lucian was already on top of the nearby building with her in his arms.
"Lucian w-what...?"
She couldn’t believe it.
How was he moving like that!?
How could a human move like that!?
She didn’t understand.
Her mind couldn’t accept what she just saw.
And Lucian...
He wasn’t explaining.
He only focused on running, leaving Alaric behind to face six werewolves, in front of a huge, panicking crowd.
Or at least...
That’s what should have happened.
But as Alaric stepped out of the car with his sword already out, staring at the six werewolves with a calm look on his face, as if he had already decided how he was going to get rid of them in the fastest way possible before rejoining the mission, something that even he did not expect happened.
"AAAAUUUUUUUU!!!!"
Two werewolves, who saw the ’prey’ running away, were no longer able to control themselves in their wolf forms, and instead of facing Alaric, they rushed towards Lucian.
Alaric’s expression changed.
He tried to stop them, but he already knew he wouldn’t be able to, so instead—
"CROSS! TWO COMING TOWARDS YOU!!"
He decided to trust Lucian as he then dashed towards the other four, making sure they didn’t leave.
Lucian heard Alaric’s words, he looked back and saw two werewolves chasing him, one ran along the wall, his claws carving lines into the brick, the other jumped over the car and landed on the side of a low building, preparing to chase him down.
Lucian narrowed his eyes, he let them come.
If anything, it eased his heart since that meant Alaric would be facing two fewer enemies, as for him, he had already decided how he was going to outrun them.
And in the middle of all this—
Evelyn, who was holding onto Lucian’s sleeves for dear life, watching everything play out, two monsters chasing her down, Lucian, who had been with her all this while, jumping between the buildings while carrying her without slowing down for even a second—
Her entire world was falling apart.
