Chapter 66: Chapter 66 The Stolen Admission

Rose furrowed her brow in confusion.

This was the first message Jordan had sent her since adding her.

She didn’t understand what he meant.

But he was clearly on Samantha’s side too, trusting her—the other woman—without a second thought.

Rose didn’t think she needed to have any further dealings with someone like that.

Without hesitation, she tapped “Block.”

Then she drove back to G.S. and returned to her monotonous lab work.

*****

Jordan hadn’t received a reply for a long time.

He felt oddly distracted.

Eventually, he decided to send another message:

[You didn’t save my name? I’m Jordan.]

A red exclamation mark immediately popped up:

[You are not friends with this person yet. Your message was rejected.]

“......”

He froze for two seconds, staring at the notification in disbelief.

Suddenly, it was as if a flame had been ignited inside him—his emotions flared up, only to be swiftly extinguished.

Rose... had actually rejected his advances!

Could he really have been rebuffed by Rose?

“Mr. Dutch?”

The driver in the front seat called out uncertainly.

Jordan snapped back to reality, tossed his phone aside, and his handsome face turned as cold as ice.

“Back to the office.”

*****

Rose had been swamped with work lately.

The drug development project with Columbia University was in full swing. As soon as Samantha’s team at Columbia finalized the Western medicine formulation, they could proceed with animal testing and clinical trials.

But they still hadn’t produced any results.

Although Rose felt the process was dragging on, she didn’t rush them.

She also had to arrange a kindergarten for Ariel.

Next month marked the start of the new school year.

Ariel had already decided to stay in New York, so Rose needed to settle the matter as soon as possible.

She thoroughly researched all the top-ranked kindergartens in New York.

In the end, she chose the one with the best overall reputation.

It was filled with the children of high-ranking officials and elite families, with exceptional resources in every aspect—and it was the only kindergarten willing to accept Ariel under her current circumstances.

The school required proof of home ownership and financial verification, so she would need Trevor to help provide some documentation.

This included, but was not limited to, the household registration records.

When Rose called, the person on the other end was extremely polite.

“You’re very lucky. Our school has a fixed enrollment quota, and this happens to be the very last spot available. Just bring your child in on Monday to complete the enrollment process.”

Rose felt that ever since she had distanced herself from those scumbags, her luck had improved significantly.

She agreed immediately.

“Okay. See you on Monday.”

She quickly shared the good news with Nathan.

Nathan was delighted.

“That’s great. This kindergarten has excellent resources, and it’s close to home, which makes it convenient for my wife and me to pick Ariel up and drop her off.”

Rose was deeply grateful that Nathan was willing to help care for her daughter.

She found it difficult to put her feelings into words. Being shy, she stammered for a while.

Nathan, meanwhile, was playing chess. After muttering a threatening “Checkmate!” to his opponent, he still found time to snap, “Enough already. Stop getting sentimental. Do you think I’m doing this for you? Ariel is no different from my own granddaughter! I love my precious granddaughter, so quit being so dramatic.”

Rose rubbed her nose.

“Oh.”

She immediately withdrew any sign of being moved.

Later, she went shopping with Diana and bought Ariel some new clothes and a new backpack.

Everything was for Ariel’s first day of school.

Saturday night.

But then Rose received a call from the kindergarten.

“We’re very sorry, but there was an error in our records. That spot is no longer available. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to admit your child.”

Rose’s good mood vanished instantly.

She hurriedly asked, “How could this happen? How could you make such a major mistake? Who’s going to take responsibility for all the time we’ve wasted?”

The person on the other end refused to give a clear explanation, repeating the same official response over and over.

But one thing was obvious.

Ariel’s spot had most likely been taken by someone else.

Rose had secured it first.

When it came to her daughter, Rose had never been one to back down.

After discussing it with Diana, she decided to go directly to the school on Monday.

When Rose went to pick Diana up, she saw Ariel standing by the roadside beside her.

The little darling was carrying a fluffy backpack and wearing a Stardust Bunny-ear hat that matched it perfectly.

Passersby couldn’t help turning around and exclaiming, “What a beautiful little girl!”

Diana stood beside her, looking so proud that her tail might as well have been wagging.

Every time someone complimented Ariel, Diana would purse her lips and nod calmly, pretending to be composed.

“Thank you.”

Rose slammed on the brakes and said helplessly, “Why did you bring Ariel out in this freezing weather?”

Had Diana forgotten they were here to fight for Ariel’s admission today?

Diana climbed into the car with Ariel in her arms.

“So what? I’m definitely getting that spot back. It’ll be good for Ariel to get familiar with the campus first.”

Ariel nodded vigorously.

“Mommy, I can help argue our case too!”

Rose: “......”

Fine.

She had been completely defeated by the cuteness again.

They soon arrived at the kindergarten.

Diana couldn’t help exclaiming,

“With a kindergarten this impressive, no wonder it’s filled with the children of powerful and wealthy families. Our little treasure deserves the very best resources.”

Rose, however, seemed deep in thought.

Until she knew whether the school would actually honor the admission spot, she couldn’t feel confident.

“Auntie, I want to play on the playground.”

Knowing Diana spoiled her the most, Ariel pointed toward the playground in the distance with sparkling eyes.

Diana laughed. “Sure, go ahead.”

Ariel’s cheeks flushed with excitement as she started running toward it.

But then she suddenly turned back, tugged on Rose’s arm, and made her bend down.

She planted a kiss on Rose’s cheek.

Then, being fair, she gave Diana a kiss too before huffing and puffing away to play.

Diana’s heart instantly soared.

She felt energized enough to march into the administration office and argue with the school herself.

Rose couldn’t help but laugh.

She wasn’t worried about campus safety.

So she headed off with Diana to find the person in charge.

The school placed great emphasis on teaching practical skills and even had its own horseback-riding area.

Upon learning that the principal was at the riding arena, the two women headed there immediately.

The moment they arrived, Rose’s expression hardened.

She spotted a familiar figure at the racetrack.

Over there, Mike was sitting on a pony.

Samantha was holding the reins.

Not far away, Ryan stood outside the riding area.

His tall, slender figure was impossible to miss.

He was looking down while taking a work call, while his other hand casually held an orange crocodile-pattern handbag.

Rose’s gaze lingered on him for a moment.

She hadn’t expected someone of Ryan’s stature to carry Samantha’s handbag.

And so naturally, at that.

But what mattered more was that she finally knew who had taken Ariel’s spot.

Diana was so furious she nearly exploded on the spot.

She wanted to rush over, snatch the bag away, and smash it.

“Which one is the principal?”

Rose took her hand and quietly calmed her down.

The middle-aged man standing beside Ryan, smiling obsequiously, immediately looked over.

“And you are?”

Not just the principal.

Rose could also feel Ryan’s casual gaze drifting toward her.

Unruffled.

Detached.

No one would have guessed they had been married for seven years.

“We’re here about an admission slot. The school confirmed the final spot with us, but now it’s suddenly gone. That doesn’t seem right, does it?”

Rose spoke calmly, unwilling to start an argument.

The principal instinctively glanced toward Ryan, who was still on the phone nearby.

Realizing they had simply run into each other by chance, he could only brush Rose off.

“It was a mistake on the staff’s part. The spot was already gone.”

Just then, Samantha walked over, her gaze toward Rose completely indifferent.

The principal immediately pointed at Samantha and introduced her.

“This couple secured the last available spot for their child. Why don’t you speak with them first?”
