Chapter 65: Chapter 65 An Invitation from the Wrong Man

Ryan’s casual remark was like a pebble dropped into still water.

Rose couldn’t help but look at him.

She was hardly surprised anymore.

He was always steady and composed.

Speaking calmly to Caleb, he said, “New Hope, a subsidiary of Kingswell, is a leader in the smart healthcare industry. It will serve as a guarantor. If we partner, it will oversee the subsequent production for G.S. Does that level of backing meet your standards, President Byrne?”

Samantha looked up, her face radiating a tenderness that was impossible to hide.

It was the look of someone who was blissfully and unconditionally cherished.

Rose lowered her eyes, concealing the sarcasm in them.

Ryan’s intention was obvious.

He was declaring to everyone that he was Samantha’s protector.

How could she not understand?

Caleb’s facial muscles twitched slightly.

“New Hope is certainly an industry leader, and I certainly trust the production capacity and quality control of a major manufacturer. However, Mr. Knight is Mr. Knight, and G.S. also values Ms. Hill’s personal abilities. As far as I know, she doesn’t have much experience in this area.”

To put it bluntly, Samantha was far too ambitious—she even wanted to venture into the medical technology field.

Did she think she was some prodigy like Rose, who had already proven herself?

“I can assemble the core team myself, so there’s no need to worry, Mr. Byrne.”

Ryan’s words were airtight.

Rose understood.

What he meant was that he would assemble an elite team to support Samantha.

There would be no room for failure.

Having reached this point, Caleb smiled faintly.

“Since this is a partnership, G.S. must give it careful consideration. However, Ms. Hill is truly fortunate—so young, yet backed by a heavyweight like President Knight.”

He felt even more sorry for Rose.

Even an outsider like him felt distressed for her.

How much more painful must it be for the person directly involved?

Samantha wasn’t oblivious to the implication in Caleb’s words.

He was suggesting that Ryan was handing opportunities to her.

But so what?

She was capable of succeeding on her own.

That was the fundamental difference between her and Rose.

“Mr. Byrne, you must be joking. If we’re talking about good fortune, who could compare to Ms. Bennett? Even though she knows nothing about the industry, she still managed to get an invitation to this summit. How many people don’t even have the chance to attend an event like this?” Oliver teased playfully.

At that, Samantha gave a subtle smile.

Oliver’s words were spot on.

At least she had genuine talent to back her up.

What about Rose?

She only knew how to rely on men to squeeze her way into circles where she didn’t belong.

Samantha wouldn’t even deign to be mentioned in the same breath as someone like that.

As for gaining access to Aetheris Medical AI’s vast database, she was determined to secure it.

“President Byrne, you should give this some serious thought. Sam’s future goal is to join the National Center for Biomedical Innovation, which would be a huge asset to G.S.,” Oliver remarked.

Caleb forced a smile.

“Oh? Such lofty ambitions. Impressive.”

Her goal was to join the Academy?

Rose had been invited when she was nineteen.

If it weren’t for marrying that scumbag, she would have made a name for herself long ago.

If these people knew they were no match for Rose, would they still be smiling?

Rose merely raised an eyebrow at the mention of the Academy, but she didn’t interrupt.

There was really no need to flatter anyone.

It was obvious that Ryan intended to make Samantha his official wife, and in the future, he would undoubtedly go out of his way to support the entire Hill family.

Rose no longer wanted to listen to their conversation.

She turned and headed toward the restroom.

There had always been suspicious circumstances surrounding her mother’s car accident.

To this day, she still suspected Logan and Daisy, but she had never found a shred of evidence.

As for the antique shop Logan had taken over, the transfer had not been completed through proper legal channels. The paperwork was incomplete, which meant there was likely a much bigger problem lurking beneath the surface.

When it came down to it—

Both her life and her mother’s had been ruined by Logan and Daisy.

Yet Ryan was determined to bring wealth and prosperity to the Hill family for the sake of the woman he loved...

Whenever Rose thought of her mother lying there, neither fully alive nor truly gone, with all neurological function destroyed, she felt as though she couldn’t breathe.

The development of the exoskeleton robot back then had actually been inspired by her mother.

Unfortunately, with her mother’s brain in a state of suspended animation and her neurological functions lost, the technology had never been applicable to her condition.

Her life’s sole pursuit was to develop treatments capable of combating brain death.

She knew the chances of success were slim from a medical standpoint.

But she would never stop trying.

As for the truth about what happened back then, she would uncover it piece by piece, no matter what it took.

Rose took a deep breath.

Then she turned and walked out.

That was when she ran into Jordan.

He noticed Rose’s reddened eyes.

Had she been crying?

He stopped in his tracks.

But Rose didn’t even look at him as she walked past.

“Do you really have to make such a fuss over him?”

Unable to hold back any longer, Jordan grabbed her arm.

Rose: “...?”

She frowned.

“Mr. Dutch, are you okay?”

What on earth was he talking about?

Jordan couldn’t understand how a married woman could be so obsessed with a man who already had a girlfriend.

Had all the good men in the world disappeared?

“I hope you won’t try to come between Ms. Hill and Mr. Knight.”

Jordan stared at her.

“Didn’t you get the hint just now? Their relationship is unshakable, and they’re going to get married. Just leave them alone.”

He still hoped she would maintain some moral boundaries.

Even if things weren’t working out with her own spouse, couldn’t she just find a single man instead?

Rose’s lips twitched.

Getting married soon?

Had Ryan and the others already made that public?

No wonder Ryan had let Mike burn their wedding photos.

Rose’s delicate features turned cold.

She was sick and tired of this.

Why did everyone insist on reminding her how much her unfaithful husband loved his mistress?

In this day and age, were legal wives not even worthy of existing?

Why was everyone acting as though Samantha’s feelings were the only ones that mattered?

“Hmm. Fine. I’ll go to a temple and pray for them to be bound together for several lifetimes so they can stay attached to each other and stop causing trouble for everyone else. Happy now?”

With that, she turned and walked away.

Jordan watched her retreating figure.

He assumed she was merely speaking out of anger.

He had truly never met a woman like Rose.

Someone with such questionable morals who refused to admit she was wrong and acted so openly and unapologetically shameless.

Back at the venue, he saw Oliver discussing one of the smart therapy watches with Samantha.

A thoughtful expression crossed his face.

“How long have you known Rose? Is her husband in this industry? How influential is he?”

The last time, James hadn’t answered those questions.

Jordan had therefore assumed Rose’s husband was a nobody.

Oliver’s expression tightened slightly as he glanced at Samantha.

Surprised by Jordan’s question, Samantha set the watch down and replied neutrally, “That’s her personal business. Let’s focus on our own work.”

She offered no further explanation.

Instead, she walked over to chat with the event staff, acting as though she didn’t care.

Jordan could tell.

Samantha was giving Rose a great deal of face.

Not only had she refrained from publicly criticizing Rose for pursuing her boyfriend, but she also hadn’t exposed Rose’s private affairs or humiliated her for attempting to become a mistress.

He admired Samantha’s magnanimity.

However...

“Why are you asking about her husband’s influence?” Oliver asked suddenly, suspicion flickering in his eyes.

Jordan ran a hand through his hair. “I was thinking that if he were a man of influence and status, he’d never allow her to behave so recklessly.”

If he lacked influence...

Jordan had originally liked Rose and intended to pursue her.

But after seeing what he believed were her true colors, those feelings had vanished.

Besides, if her husband wasn’t anyone important, causing trouble for Rose wouldn’t be a big deal.

After all, no matter who the other party was, he could handle it.

It would also help Samantha strengthen her relationship and prevent Rose from interfering with her boyfriend.

Since Rose had such low standards, she would naturally be easy to manipulate.

Oliver failed to catch the deeper meaning behind Jordan’s words and simply chuckled.

“Putting everything else aside, her marriage is a failure anyway. Her husband doesn’t care about her at all.”

Only then did Jordan fall into deep thought.

The Smart Healthcare Summit eventually came to an end.

Rose was preparing to return to the lab to check on the project’s progress.

She had just gotten into her car when she saw the first WhatsApp message from Jordan appear on her screen.

Jordan: [Are you free tonight?]
