Chapter 23: Chapter 23 Bring your husband over to treat him
Rose hadn’t expected Ryan to come over.
She was even more surprised that Ryan would actually speak to her.
The question struck a nerve.
Ayurveda had been passed down for thousands of years, preserving a wealth of diagnostic knowledge and clinical wisdom.
What fascinated Rose most was that, despite the differences between medical traditions, truly skilled masters often possessed an extraordinary ability to perceive subtle changes within the body.
Even though many years had passed since she had given birth, an experienced Ayurvedic pulse expert had still been able to detect traces of it through her pulse alone.
Even Caleb hadn’t anticipated this turn of events.
Suddenly, the atmosphere became strangely awkward.
Unaware of the underlying complications, the elderly doctor spoke bluntly. "Young lady, your pulse indicates a deep depletion of energy and vitality. It appears your body went through a major loss in the past and has never fully recovered."
Ryan’s gaze slowly drifted downward.
It landed on the back of Rose’s head, which had remained motionless the entire time.
His thick brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
His voice remained devoid of emotion. "Could there be a mistake?"
Samantha hadn’t expected such a trivial matter to draw Ryan’s attention to Rose.
She pressed her lips together and glanced at the elderly herbalist.
There was a hint of displeasure in her eyes.
She felt the man was simply making things up.
Was Ayurveda medicine really that powerful?
Could it diagnose everything?
Besides, Rose had never given birth.
For all anyone knew, Rose might simply be infertile. Otherwise, after all these years, even a hen would have laid an egg by now.
Either Rose couldn’t conceive, or Ryan simply didn’t want children with her.
Samantha felt both possibilities were equally likely.
Ryan’s repeated questioning caused a cold sweat to break out at Rose’s temples.
This was different from the curiosity of that young mother last time.
This was a genuine master of traditional Ayurveda medicine.
If Ryan became suspicious...
Rose couldn’t help clenching her jaw.
She was terrified the old doctor might reveal something that would expose her past pregnancy in front of Ryan.
The old doctor’s hand remained on Rose’s wrist.
He gave her a thoughtful look.
Naturally, he could sense that her emotions were in turmoil.
Her heartbeat was accelerating.
In traditional medicine, this was known as a disturbance of the spirit.
The elderly doctor’s cloudy yet shrewd eyes flickered slightly.
Then he said slowly, "However, this isn’t definitive."
Rose met his gaze and couldn’t help blinking at him.
"Another possibility is that certain people or circumstances in her life are draining her vital energy and mental strength. That could produce a similar condition."
Only then did Ryan shift his gaze to the old doctor and he winked at her.
He appeared thoughtful.
"Is that so?" Ryan said.
Oliver had overheard enough of the conversation as he approached.
Seeing the situation, he stepped forward with a smile.
"Master, you may not know this, but this young lady has been married for seven years and still hasn’t had a child. Instead of discussing energy imbalances, wouldn’t it be more useful to find out whether she’s infertile?"
Caleb’s expression immediately turned cold.
How could he fail to hear the mockery in Oliver’s words?
The man was deliberately exposing Rose’s deepest wound.
He was inviting everyone present to look at her with pity and judgment.
Making people believe she was infertile and implying her marriage had failed.
"That’s unreasonable," Caleb said calmly.
"When a couple can’t conceive, why is the blame always placed on the woman? Could it be that some husbands lack self-discipline, maintain unhealthy lifestyles, or simply have poor sperm quality? Instead of forcing women through medications and treatments, perhaps some men should first determine whether they’re capable."
Oliver was instantly speechless.
He instinctively glanced at Ryan, who had remained silent throughout.
Ryan showed no reaction to Caleb’s words.
The elderly traditional medicine practitioner nodded. "She’s right. Aside from a energy imbalances and little weakness, this young lady is perfectly healthy."
Only then did Caleb smile.
"Then the problem must be the man. Rose, who’s your husband? Bring him over so we can get him treated immediately."
Rose: "..."
Oliver: "..."
Samantha’s expression shifted slightly.
She still hoped to establish a partnership with Grand Sage, and Caleb was an important figure there.
Though displeased, she refrained from arguing.
However...
Her eyes instinctively drifted toward the nearby media.
She believed she had done nothing wrong.
But Rose was exactly the sort of person who might twist the narrative and damage her reputation.
It never hurt to be cautious.
Naturally, she couldn’t allow the truth to emerge through some accidental slip of the tongue and create a situation she couldn’t control.
Rose hadn’t expected Caleb to be so ruthless.
He had flipped the entire table over.
Leaving the other side with nowhere to retreat.
Oliver reacted quickly and immediately changed the subject. "Other people’s family matters have nothing to do with us. Since we have such a skilled master here today, Sam, haven’t you been feeling under the weather lately? Why not let him take a look?"
Samantha froze briefly.
She glanced instinctively at the respected old doctor, then at Rose.
Pressing her lips together, she replied, "No, thank you. I’m perfectly fine."
"I also don’t want to waste resources or take opportunities away from people who truly need them."
The moment the words left her mouth, Rose immediately caught the sarcasm.
Samantha was accusing her of wasting resources.
Rose withdrew her hand and stood up calmly.
"That’s true. You’re in perfect health. Perhaps Mr. Knight beside you is the one who actually needs treatment."
After all, Ryan had once claimed he couldn’t have children.
It was probably time he had that checked out.
With that, Rose turned and walked away.
Ryan gave her a casual glance.
He understood exactly what she meant.
Ignoring her jab, he merely glanced at his wristwatch.
"All right. Business first."
The moment he said that, Samantha’s face brightened with excitement.
"Will Dr. Hale be here today?"
Dr. Nathan Hale was one of the world’s most respected pharmacologists and drug development pioneers. Throughout his career, he had collaborated with leading researchers, physicians, and pharmaceutical institutions around the globe.
If She could become his student, she would gain access to an exceptionally broad network of influential professionals across the global medical community.
Ryan was essentially solving the problem at its source.
Oliver looked around and reassured her.
"Once Dr. Hale meets you, he’ll definitely like you. You’re practically a public figure now. With your visibility and influence, you’re the perfect person to promote public health innovation and medical science."
Samantha couldn’t help smiling.
She felt Oliver was absolutely right.
The decline of traditional medicine was an undeniable trend.
The field needed fresh talent, greater visibility, and a positive public image.
She was the perfect candidate.
By then, Dr. Hale, Grand Sage, and Peace would all be supporting her.
Caleb hadn’t gone far.
He had, however, overheard enough.
Shaking his head with amusement, he found Rose standing alone in a corner.
"Isn’t Samantha being a little delusional? "Dr. Hale has only personally mentored three successors in his entire life—my father, one of the country’s leading pharmaceutical scientists, and you. You’re the only one he personally selected as his successor and final disciple. Does she really think Dr. Hale has no standards?"
His father was currently the chairman and director of Peace Hospital.
He oversaw more than a dozen top-tier private hospitals across the country.
It was precisely because of his extraordinary talent that Dr. Hale had accepted him as a disciple years ago.
Even now, a figure as accomplished as his father still addressed Rose and his fellow disciple according to their seniority within Dr. Hale’s lineage.
As for Samantha?
She wasn’t qualified.
Besides, they wouldn’t be seeing Dr. Hale today.
Ever since Rose had sent Ariel to keep the elderly Mr. and Mrs. Hale company, Dr. Hale had become completely occupied with spoiling his grandchild.
Rose hadn’t expected Samantha’s ambitions to run so deep.
But more importantly, she knew that the person encouraging Samantha and building a path for her was Ryan.
When you love someone, you spare no effort lifting them up.
Rose shrugged.
"Let them do whatever they want."
The event lasted two hours.
After it ended, Caleb was called away for a social engagement.
Rose headed to the parking lot alone to retrieve her car.
She had barely reached it and hadn’t even unlocked the door when she heard an annoyed voice behind her.
"Rose, don’t you think you’ve gone a little too far?"
Rose turned around.
There stood Samantha.
Her pretty face was laced with sarcasm as her gaze shifted between Rose and the vehicle.
Ryan and Oliver stood beside her.
"What’s the matter now, my husband’s mistress?" Rose leaned casually against the car door, waiting to hear what nonsense Samantha was about to come up with next.
