Chapter 22: Chapter 22 A Secret Hidden in Her Pulse
Rose couldn’t help but think: Even the Chairman Knight probably couldn’t have foreseen this situation.
Back then, Chairman Knight had personally taken several members of the Knight family overseas to settle there.
Next year, that branch of the family was scheduled to return.
By then, even if they found out, it would likely be too late.
Rose accepted the money without a second thought.
It had practically been handed to her on a silver platter—there was no reason to act high and mighty and refuse it.
To others, that wouldn’t look like pride. It would look like stupidity.
Since she had the chance to dip into Ryan’s wallet, she certainly wasn’t going to let him off lightly. She intended to make it hurt as much as possible.
A massive sum was deposited into her account.
Rose didn’t hold back, either. She immediately started searching for a new home.
With the housing issue resolved, she also planned to buy a new car for herself.
She would treat it as a complete farewell to her old life.
During her lunch break, Rose headed straight to the dealership.
She ordered a Range Rover’s SUV made by Land Rover.
Spacious and comfortable, it was both professional and family friendly.
The dealership happened to have one in stock, so she could drive it home that very day.
It cost just over half a million dollars—the first luxury vehicle she had ever owned.
She also selected a new license plate. Luck was on her side, and she managed to secure her favorite lucky number.
The purchase put Rose in a much better mood.
She drove back to Grand Sage [G.S].
Just as she was about to enter the elevator, she ran into Samantha coming out.
Seeing Rose, Samantha froze for a moment before slightly furrowing her brow.
"What are you doing here?" Samantha asked.
Rose shot her a cold glance, didn’t bother responding, and walked straight into the elevator.
Samantha glanced back at the closing doors.
She could think of only one possibility.
Was Rose here for a job interview?
Today, Samantha had come to submit a proposal for collaboration with the Nathan Hale Institute for Pharmaceutical Research.
She wanted to join Grand Sage’s core team, hoping it would eventually increase her chances of joining similar project like these, which collaborated with Global-level research centers.
If Rose was here for the same reason, then Samantha had nothing to worry about.
After all, Rose’s résumé consisted primarily of emergency room nursing experience. It wasn’t particularly impressive, even if her ambitions were.
Even if Rose somehow managed to join Grand Sage, she would still end up beneath Samantha.
If Samantha successfully partnered with Grand Sage, Rose would ultimately be working under her direction.
At that point, Grand Sage would make it abundantly clear just how wide the gap between them really was.
With that thought, Samantha curled her lips into a faint sneer and walked away from the Grand Sage building without another glance.

Rose arrived at the R&D department.
Everyone was busy moving about in thick sterile lab coats.
Caleb emerged from the pharmaceutical analysis division and waved as soon as he spotted her.
"Take a look at the people who’ve contacted Grand Sage over the past few days. Sort through them, see who’s worth considering, and make the necessary arrangements. Oh, and by the way, your husband’s mistress is among them."
Rose glanced casually through the list.
"She wants to join the core R&D team? She certainly knows how to choose her stepping stones."
Samantha was an ambitious person.
Since returning to the country, she had appeared on numerous talk shows and received invitations to various medical programs.
She was already considered a celebrity doctor within the industry.
After all, she was beautiful, articulate, highly educated, and had an impressive résumé.
"Samantha may have an impressive résumé, but her heart isn’t in research and development. She’s far more interested in cultivating her public image."
Caleb raised an eyebrow. "I’ll give her special treatment."
Rose looked at him curiously. "What kind of special treatment?"
Caleb smiled. "Reject her first."
Rose immediately gave him a thumbs-up.

Grand Sage’s response came quickly.
Samantha had just met Ryan and Oliver at a restaurant.
She was in an excellent mood today.
After all, she would have an opportunity to work alongside Rose in the future.
Eventually, Rose would come to realize just how completely she had lost.
"What’s got you so happy?" Oliver asked, noticing Samantha’s cheerful expression.
Ryan glanced over as well.
Samantha smiled helplessly. "I ran into someone amusing today. Watching them try so hard was honestly a little heartbreaking."
To dare submit a résumé to Grand Sage—the harder Rose tried, the more pitiful it seemed.
"Who was it?" Oliver asked.
"No one important."
Samantha had no intention of naming names.
Ryan pushed the menu toward her.
"Take a look and see what you’d like to eat."
Oliver clicked his tongue.
"So now I’m the third wheel?"
Samantha covered her mouth and laughed.
"What are you talking about..."
Her phone vibrated.
Before the smile had even left her face, she saw Caleb’s reply.
"Thank you for your trust. We’ll certainly give it serious consideration should an opportunity arise in the future."
Samantha’s expression immediately froze.
"What’s wrong?" Ryan asked as he took a sip of sparkling water.
Samantha set her phone face-down on the table, completely baffled.
"Grand Sage turned down my proposal."
"They rejected you? Are their executives really that picky?" Oliver asked in surprise.
"Did they give a reason?" Ryan asked thoughtfully.
Samantha pressed her lips together. "No. They were very polite about it."
She turned toward Ryan.
"Ryan, what should I do? Grand Sage’s network would be a tremendous asset to me."
Ryan poured her a glass of water and reassured her.
"It’s fine. It’s not a big deal."
Hearing that, Samantha instantly relaxed.
Looking at Ryan’s noble, handsome features, her heart overflowed with sweetness.
She knew Ryan would take care of everything for her.
Oliver watched the two of them and clapped dramatically.
"Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Showing off your love again? Is it too late for me to gouge out my own eyes?"
*****
Rose gradually settled into the team’s workflow.
The coming months would be critical for building chemistry with everyone.
Grand Sage had received numerous invitations, including one to the biennial Global Medical Innovation Summit in New York.
Many renowned medical experts from around the world would be attending.
Caleb planned to bring Rose along to help establish her reputation within the industry.
Rose deliberately drove her new vehicle to the event.
With a smooth turn, she brought the Range Rover to a stop directly in front of Caleb.
Caleb gave her a thumbs-up.
"Living the good life, Boss."
Rose smirked. "It’s especially satisfying when it’s paid for with someone else’s money."
When fortune falls from the sky, it would be a waste not to enjoy it.
They arrived at the venue.
Quite a few media outlets were present.
As the sole heir of Peace Hospital, Caleb immediately became the center of attention, surrounded by reporters and industry professionals.
Rose was pushed aside by the crowd.
Caleb remained perfectly composed.
"Everyone, please make way."
Ignoring what anyone thought, he pushed through the crowd, pulled Rose back to his side, and draped an arm protectively around her shoulders.
Instantly, countless curious gazes landed on Rose.
"Is that Caleb’s girlfriend?" someone asked.
"Allow me to formally introduce the future star of Grand Sage’s biggest project—"
Before he could finish, another wave of gasps erupted nearby.
Rose followed the sound.
Only then did she notice another group arriving.
Ryan stood out among the crowd like a crane among chickens.
Beside him, Samantha clung closely to his arm. Under the flashing cameras, she moved even closer.
Caleb immediately understood that Samantha’s deliberate—or perhaps calculated—display of affection was meant for the media.
Instinctively, he looked down at Rose.
Rose had already looked away.
"Let’s go," she said, pulling Caleb away from the spotlight surrounding the couple.
Many highly respected experts from different countries had come to participate in the event.
One of the featured activities was a showcase of innovative healthcare technologies, pharmaceutical breakthroughs, and emerging diagnostic systems from around the world.
Rose found it quite interesting.
Just then, an elderly Indian physician with silver hair and a neatly trimmed white beard smiled and beckoned her over.
"Young lady, would you like me to read your pulse?" he asked.
Rose knew there was always more to learn, so she sat down.
"Sure," she said with a smile, extending her hand.
The elderly Ayurvedic master gently placed three fingers on her wrist and closed his eyes in concentration.
After several moments, he nodded thoughtfully.
"Your vitality remains strong, but your pulse suggests emotional strain and internal imbalance. Have you been under considerable stress recently?"
Rose smiled, her dimples appearing as she nodded enthusiastically.
"I stepped in two piles of dog poop and ended up feeling sick for three days."
Caleb burst out laughing.
At that moment, Samantha and Ryan happened to walk by behind them.
Hearing this, Samantha’s expression immediately darkened.
How could she fail to realize that Rose was taking a jab at them?
The elderly physician chuckled and shook his head.
Then he continued, "Your pulse is somewhat depleted. The body has lost a great deal of energy in the past. Have you given birth before?"
Rose nearly bit her tongue.
Behind her, Ryan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Then, for the first time, he spoke.
"How can you tell?"
