Chapter 106: Chapter 106 The Evidence That Turns the Tables

Rose didn’t bother checking whether Ryan had left.

He probably had.

After all, Samantha had dressed up so carefully. They were most likely spending a romantic evening together.

Rose had no intention of going back outside.

She was already sick and didn’t have the energy to deal with any more drama.

Using the landline, she called Caleb’s room and told him not to make any birthday plans for her.

She intended to stay in and rest.

Only then did Caleb realize she was ill.

After reassuring him that she was fine, Rose asked him to let Jordan know that she had lost her phone.

After that, Jordan never came back to knock on her door.

Presumably, Caleb had managed to smooth things over.

For the first time all day, the night was peaceful.

Clutching the small rosewood pendant in her hand, Rose fell asleep with a smile on her face.

*****

The next morning, she woke up and walked out of the bedroom.

Her gaze immediately landed on the living room.

The bouquet of blue tulips and the tulip-themed birthday cake had been moved to the kitchen island, positioned where she would see them the moment she stepped out.

Most likely, the hotel’s guest relations manager had arranged it.

Perhaps they assumed she would want them.

Rose walked over and gently brushed her fingers across the petals.

Then, without hesitation, she picked up the bouquet and dropped it into the trash.

******

After heading downstairs, Rose went directly to the hotel’s swimming pool area and found the manager.

"Did anyone find a cell phone while cleaning the pool yesterday?"

A hotel of this caliber operated under strict procedures.

Its management standards were meticulous.

Even a pool that large was cleaned every day.

She had fallen into the water, and her phone had gone in with her.

The manager offered an apologetic smile.

"I’m sorry, but if a staff member finds a lost item, they’re required to report it immediately. Failure to do so results in disciplinary action. Since we haven’t received any reports, is it possible the phone was lost somewhere else?"

Rose frowned.

She was certain she wasn’t mistaken.

She distinctly remembered the phone falling into the pool.

Still, searching for it now would require a considerable amount of work.

After thinking it over, she decided to let it go.

Even if they found it, the phone would be completely water-damaged.

Repairing it would be expensive and time-consuming.

It would be easier to buy a new one.

The only thing that bothered her was the information stored inside.

The phone contained countless photos and videos of Ariel.

From her birth certificate to every stage of her childhood, Rose had carefully documented her growth over the years.

Fortunately, she treated those memories like treasures and had backed everything up.

As long as she logged into her account on a new device, she could recover it all.

Rose glanced once more at the spot where she had fallen into the pool.

Then she turned and walked away.

She didn’t pursue the matter any further.

She had barely taken a few steps when someone suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Turning around, she met Jordan’s cold, displeased gaze.

His handsome face still carried a trace of anger. "Rose, aren’t you going to give me an explanation?"

His grip tightened painfully around her wrist.

Rose frowned and tried to pull free, but she couldn’t match his strength. "I lost my phone. I had a fever yesterday and wasn’t feeling well, so I couldn’t contact you. If you don’t believe me, that’s your choice."

She didn’t owe Jordan anything.

And she certainly wasn’t going to beg for forgiveness.

Only then did Jordan take a proper look at her.

Her voice was still slightly hoarse.

Her complexion wasn’t great either.

Slowly, he frowned. "So Mr. Byrne wasn’t lying to me."

Caleb had already called to explain.

Jordan simply hadn’t believed him.

"What would I gain by lying to you?" Rose asked impatiently. "Would it make you invest more money?"

Then she looked down at his hand. "Let go."

Rose’s features weren’t actually gentle.

Her oval face was exquisitely beautiful, and her slightly upturned eyes were strikingly attractive.

Especially when she wasn’t smiling.

Without her dimples softening her appearance, she carried an unexpectedly imposing presence.

Jordan studied her expression.

Her blunt attitude.

And somehow, it made him smile.

Looking down at her reddened wrist, he felt a slight pang of guilt and finally released her.

"You went to the trouble of explaining things to me."

His tone was surprisingly relaxed. "I have no reason to stay angry."

In the past, Rose probably wouldn’t have explained anything at all.

She likely would’ve told him to get lost.

Rose gave him a strange look.

What a weirdo.

Why was he suddenly so pleased?

"Even though you stood me up," Jordan continued, gently rubbing the wrist he had just released, "I’m still investing in the project."

This time, Rose was genuinely surprised.

She had expected him to throw a fit.

Or back out entirely.

"To be honest, I don’t think the project’s feasibility is particularly high right now. There are still many technical barriers to overcome."

Jordan paused.

His eyes darkened. "But my mother’s tumor was located in such a dangerous position that surgery wasn’t even an option. If there’s truly a medical robot capable of overcoming challenges like that..."

He shrugged. "Then why not?"

This was research that could benefit countless patients.

Even if the odds were slim, he was willing to take the chance.

Rose couldn’t help looking at him differently.

Jordan noticed immediately. "Looking at me like that..."

A smile tugged at his lips. "I’ll take it as a sign you’ve fallen for me."

Then he pulled a contract from behind his back and handed it to her. "But get divorced first."

His tone was casual. "I’m not interested in being the other man."

Rose: "..."

He really was insane.

Taking the contract, she flipped to the last page and saw Jordan’s signature.

"Mr. Dutch, one day you’ll thank yourself for making this decision."

Rose believed in freedom of investment.

She respected other people’s choices.

Waving the contract in her hand, she turned and walked away.

Jordan watched her leave and slowly raised an eyebrow.

This project had better succeed.

Because if it did...

His gaze lingered on Rose’s retreating figure.

Then he looked down at the hand that had held hers moments earlier.

His eyes gradually darkened.

******

Rose and Caleb packed their belongings and flew back to New York.

Jordan’s investment agreement had officially been finalized.

The project finally had its seed funding.

However, three hundred million dollars was merely a lifeline.

For a project of this scale, it wasn’t nearly enough.

There was really only one way to describe the development process:

A money pit.

An incredibly expensive one.

The incident involving Mike at Peace Hospital had already spread throughout the industry.

Potential investors were sitting on the sidelines, waiting to see what happened.

The current funding round was in serious danger of failing.

Even without the Mike incident, raising sufficient capital would’ve been difficult.

Not everyone possessed the patience or vision required for long-term investments.

Now the situation had become even worse.

But time waited for no one.

The moment Rose landed in New York, she went straight to purchase a new phone.

When it came time to reactivate her old number, she hesitated.

Then changed her mind.

Instead, she requested an entirely new number.

She considered it a clean break from the past.

The moment she stepped out of the store, Diana called.

Rose immediately drove to G.S.

Diana was already waiting.

The instant she saw Rose, she patted the laptop sitting beside her and flashed a fierce grin.

"Darling, I pulled an all-nighter reviewing every single frame."

Her eyes gleamed. "And I finally found the evidence."

When Diana realized someone had tried to frame Rose for murder, she had been horrified.

The scheme was unbelievably vicious.

If the setup had succeeded—

Rose wouldn’t merely have been removed from the report.

Her entire career would’ve been destroyed.

In medicine, this kind of malpractice accusation was the absolute worst thing that could happen.

"What do you mean?" Rose asked as she walked over.

Caleb gestured for Diana to play the footage.

The moment the crucial clip appeared on the screen, a cold light flashed through Rose’s eyes.

She slowly stood up.

Then turned toward Caleb. "Notify Peace Hospital."

Her voice was calm.

Dangerously calm. "We can strike back now."
