Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Get Along with Each Other

Ye Lingyue secretly glared at him, daring him to reveal her secrets. She never knew that the third son of the Ye family turned out to be such an annoying person.

She was slightly frustrated. He knew a lot of her secrets, and she wasn’t sure he would reveal them one by one in the future.

Seeing Ye Lingyue already retracted her little fierce expression and now sitting quietly, lost in her own thoughts, he continued, "It’s Yue’er."

Before Madam Ye could ask her third son further, she was dumbfounded when she already heard the answer, especially the content of the words he said.

Ye Lingyue’s temples throbbed. She could see two pairs of intense eyes staring at her, one belonging to Madam Ye, and the other was Ye Lanxi.

"Has your head been kicked by a donkey?" Ye Lanxi grunted at his third brother, not believing a single word he said. He was convinced Ye Lingrui was making fun of him.

"Lan’er!" Madam Ye warned.

Ye Lanxi pursed his lips and stayed quiet.

Meanwhile, Ye Lingyue stiffly turned around, mulling over her choices. Should she continue to pretend to be oblivious?

"I picked the herbs and Yue’er crushed them before she applied the medicinal paste on second brother’s wounds," Ye Lingrui continued.

Ye Lingyue’s pupils constricted. This was actually a good opportunity to reveal that she has recovered little by little. She instantly understood Ye Lingrui’s intention, no longer feeling resentful.

"Yes, yes, me, me." Ye Lingyue pointed to herself, nodding.

Madam Ye widened her eyes, and she took a deep breath. Ye Lanxi studied his little sister with some doubts, and he watched as their mother took Ye Lingyue’s hands.

"Yue’er, you understand what we are talking about, right?" She asked, also glancing at Ye Lingrui with puzzlement and pleasant surprise.

Ye Lingyue was silent for a moment, as though she was still taking a while to process Madam Ye’s words. Then, she clapped her hands and nodded. "Understand, understand."

This daughter usually was always lost in her own world, ignoring everyone even when they tried to talk to her. Ye Lingyue could already say some simple words, but she generally stayed silent.

For more complex words, she usually merely repeated them without understanding their meanings.

Although she rarely responded, she sometimes still did. Most of the time, her words wouldn’t make sense or in a rare case, her response would at least relevant to the topic.

Seeing Ye Lingyue responding twice in a row with responses that made sense, they were all undoubtedly surprised.

"Mother, I think she recovers because I hit her head with a scabbard," Ye Lanxi said dazedly, intent on seeking his death.

Madam Ye returned to her senses. She glared at her son and jabbed the place where it hurt. Ye Lanxi hissed and sucked in a deep breath. "It hurts, it hurts! I was wrong, Mother!"

She slowly released him, not letting her second son’s nonsense lessen her joy. Although their family had fallen into trouble, at least there was still good news.

"Mother, I believe that Yue’er will slowly recover soon." Ye Lingrui said gently. "I will slowly teach Yue’er how to understand some words."

Madam Ye had a touched look on her face. "Yes, yes, teach your little sister. You all are siblings, try to get along with each other..."

She sighed. "Our family has fallen to such a degree now. We only have each other on the way to exile."

Actually, her husband already predicted such a day would come the moment they saw the Shen family’s fate, but she didn’t expect that it would come so soon and the punishment would be so severe.

She had come from the Shen family. The current head before the Shen family was exiled was actually her brother. She once wondered whether her presence also had caused the family’s downfall, but her husband repeatedly assured that it wasn’t the main reason.

"Rui’er, take a look at your eldest brother." Madam Ye got rid of all the distracting thoughts in her head and focused on the present matter.

Ye Lingrui nodded. Under Ye Lingyue’s astonished gaze, he took Ye Zhiqiu’s pulse and checked his condition.

As it turned out, her guess was right. This cheap twin brother of hers actually had some skills in medicine. It was no wonder that he could recognize so many precious herbs.

Does his skill make him a physician? Why does a physician like him believe in something so superstitious like Taoist Master? She couldn’t help but wonder.

It took Ye Lingrui a while before he finally finished. He got out of the carriage.

"Mother, Eldest Brother will need to rest for a while. For the next few days, he will be unconscious."

"Is he in a life-threatening condition?" Madam Ye asked worriedly.

Ye Lingrui immediately answered. "Eldest Brother has some wounds in his head. As long as we give him the correct treatment, he will be able to survive."

Alas, they were no longer the noble family from the capital. It wouldn’t be easy to obtain certain medicine with their current situation.

"I will find some common medicinal herbs along the way later," Ye Lingrui added. "Eldest Brother will have a fever tonight."

When the night came, Ye Lingyue found her twin brother and stuffed some medicinal herbs to him. "Make use of them efficiently, we don’t have a lot!"
