Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Madam Ye’s Concerns
Ye Lingyue was taken aback and suddenly turned nervous. She cursed herself for being so foolish.
Why doesn’t she ask for more pointers from Ye Lingrui on how the original owner usually acts before?
With Ye Chengde’s smart brain, could he not notice that there is something different about his daughter?
Ye Chengde suddenly stopped himself, and then turned to Pei Cuiyun. "Third Sister, I will have to ask you to move since Qiu’er is injured and needs to stay here."
For a moment, Pei Cuiyun’s expression cracked, and she was unhappy. However, she was the type of person who feared the strong and bullied the weak.
Ye Chengde’s imposing aura had been etched quite well in her memory. Even if the Ye family had fallen because of him, she didn’t plan to tear all the facade with him yet.
Especially when life in exile sounds rough. Her third branch might need his help in the future...
"It’s okay, it’s okay," she waved her hand. "I was also about to get out. Qiu’er seems pitiful." Even if her hatred for Ye Zhiqiu, the main culprit for their exile punishment had reached the heavens, she still forced herself to pretend.
After she said that, she pulled her eldest daughter out with her and let Ye Zhiqiu lay down. The twins also changed their seating, now staying beside Ye Lingyue.
"Yue’er, are you alright? How do you feel?" Ye Lingyue was startled when Ye Chengde suddenly focused his attention on her, taking one step closer in the stuffy carriage.
He glanced at Ye Lanxi and studied his injuries. The former Minister of Rites merely scrunched his face before he turned to Ye Lingyue again, as if it was a common occurrence to see Ye Lanxi’s bruised face.
Ye Lanxi also had finally regained his consciousness, his eyes full of bewilderment. Compared to Ye Zhiqiu, his condition was actually considered light.
"Father..."
Ye Lingyue almost answered Ye Chengde’s question, but fortunately, she caught herself in time. She smiled at Ye Chengde, grabbing his hand and began to play with it by swinging it back and forth.
For a full minute, Ye Chengde examined his daughter before he heaved a sigh of relief.
Only heavens know how worried he was when he saw the bruises on Ye Lanxi’s body, mostly because he was uneasy in case the imperial guards might have manhandled his fragile daughter.
Then, he turned to his second son, shaking his head and sighing, no longer surprised. Still, he tried to show his concern. "Don’t move too much until you recover."
Ye Lanxi pursed his lips. His eyes flashed when he saw Ye Lingyue beside him, not even bothered to hide his dislike.
He turned to Ye Zhiqiu. The memories of what had happened resurfaced in his brain.
"Eldest Brother... how could he..." He trailed off, finding himself unable to utter the question. Ye Lanxi winced as he began to feel the pain from his wounds.
However, his unsaid question still rang in his head. How could Eldest Brother kill a member of the imperial family? These crimes too... did their family really do them?
"This is not the right time to be discussing this," Ye Chengde sternly told his second son. He glanced at his unconscious eldest son. The person who should be the most clear about what was happening was him.
Even without what Ye Zhiqiu had done, unfortunately... their family still wouldn’t be able to escape this disaster.
Because someone was targeting them.
Considering his eldest son’s upright personality, he actually also didn’t believe he would have done something like killing a member of the imperial family.
After that, Ye Chengde also got out of the carriage. He went to find his wife, helping them to move the items onto the ox carts. The afternoon deadline was approaching soon, and they also weren’t allowed to bring too much food.
Madam Ye could finally rest once her husband and third son told him to go to the carriage. She pulled open the curtain to the second carriage and saw her daughter and sons inside.
The moment she saw Ye Zhiqiu and Ye Lanxi’s condition, her eyes reddened, and tears fell down her cheeks. "Qiu’er, how could this happen to you...?"
She went to inspect Ye Zhiqiu’s condition first. There were several whip marks, and his head also seemed to be bleeding—it was wrapped with a thick and new clean cloth.
Ye Lingyue summarized that they must have tortured Ye Zhiqiu first to extract confession from him. A forced confession. She didn’t know Ye Zhiqiu enough and wasn’t sure if he admitted to the crime.
She thought again and shook her head. Most likely he didn’t, considering they tortured him to the point of unconsciousness.
If not because of Ye Chengde’s intervention, Ye Zhiqiu might also not have come out alive.
After her brain was done analyzing the situation, she merely sat on her spot, tilting her head as if trying to comprehend the situation.
Madam Ye also turned her head to Ye Lanxi and couldn’t help but sigh. "Lan’er, you need to restrain your temper more after we arrive there."
"Let Mother see your wounds." Madam Ye could see that Ye Chengde had handled Ye Zhiqiu’s condition. Even though he had been stripped off his power, he surely could still make a small request for a physician.
Ye Lanxi grunted and let his mother examine his skin which was covered with bruises. The wounds mostly have stopped bleeding, the blood started to scab over.
Madam Ye noticed the mark of medicinal herbs on Ye Lanxi’s wounds.
"Did Rui’er put these medicinal herbs on you? Where has he gotten these from?" Madam Ye muttered in puzzlement.
She had told her third son to take care of his sister, after all. Why was he running off everywhere? At this moment, she was also unaware that Ye Lingrui was the one who had escorted Ye Lanxi to the carriage.
Not long after, they were already forced to set off. It didn’t matter whether they had finished packing or not.
Madam Ye lifted the curtain when she saw her third son. "Rui’er, did you apply the medicine on your second brother?"
Ye Lingyue’s eyelids twitched—a sign of bad premonition.
"Mother, it wasn’t me."
