Chapter 465: Chapter 465: Phoebe Huxley, the Chaos-Monger
"Stop wasting my time. I’ve got work to do. If you’re fooling around on the side, then you’re fooling around. What’s there to be afraid to admit? Hmph!"
Mandy York paid Rosalind Green no mind whatsoever. With a derisive snort, she turned to get back to work. The other onlookers, finding the whole thing dull, also started to drift away.
Phoebe Huxley was furious. ’What a spineless coward. If I ever stick my neck out for Rosalind Green again, then I’m an idiot!’
Everyone began to drift away in small groups. Mandy York shot one last provocative glare at Rosalind Green, silently mouthing the word "bitch." Rosalind’s face went even paler. She bit down hard on her lip, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the hatchet.
"I’m innocent! I haven’t been seducing any men! If you keep spouting this nonsense, I’ll hack you to death!"
Screaming, Rosalind Green charged at Mandy York. The sudden turn of events left everyone stunned. They stared, dumbfounded, as Rosalind swung the hatchet down toward Mandy’s head, completely unable to react in time.
Mandy York was scared stiff, too. She stared blankly as Rosalind charged toward her, not even thinking to dodge.
In the blink of an eye, Juliana Rhodes yanked Mandy York aside. Rosalind lunged at empty air and tumbled to the ground, but she scrambled back up instantly. Like a woman possessed, she took off after Mandy, refusing to let her go.
"I already hacked at that hoodlum and chased him off! You’re spreading lies to ruin my name! I’m going to kill you!"
"And you bullied my son! I’m getting revenge for him!"
Rosalind seemed to have swallowed a divine elixir, chasing Mandy with astonishing ferocity until the other woman was gasping for air. The two ran in circles through the field, the distance between them shrinking with every step. It looked as if the hatchet would soon split open the back of Mandy’s head.
"Village Chief... Help me! Get this lunatic away from me!"
Mandy York shrieked for help, but Preston Thorne was leading the men at work in the distance and heard nothing. No one else dared to intervene, afraid they’d get chopped by Rosalind. Mandy ran until her legs felt like they were about to break. She glanced back and saw Rosalind, hatchet in hand, catching up again. Terrified, she immediately started running for all she was worth, her heart twisting with regret.
’If I’d known that vixen was crazy, I must have been bored out of my mind to provoke her. My luck is the absolute worst.’
Fiona Rhodes wanted to intervene. If this ended in a death, her father-in-law would surely be reprimanded. But Phoebe Huxley held her back. "What’s the rush? Let that old bitch run for a while."
"But someone could get killed."
"It won’t come to that. Rosalind doesn’t have it in her. Relax."
Phoebe Huxley sounded completely certain. Fiona Rhodes, only half-convinced, decided to observe a little longer.
After a few more laps, Mandy York was running with her tongue lolling out. Rosalind was staggering as well, but she pursued her relentlessly. Phoebe Huxley was having the time of her life watching them. Loving the drama, she started shouting, "Throw the hatchet! Throw it at her head!"
Fiona Rhodes’s face fell. She stared helplessly at her cousin-in-law. ’This woman just thrives on chaos.’
"Phoebe Huxley, you damn bitch! When the hell did I ever cross you? Get this madwoman away from me!" Mandy York shrieked, furious. But Phoebe Huxley paid her no mind, simply rolling her eyes in disdain.
"Aah!"
Someone shrieked in terror. Rosalind had actually listened to Phoebe Huxley and hurled the hatchet. Fortunately, it clattered to the ground just as it was about to hit Mandy. Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.
But—
"Beat that old bitch! Think about your poor son! She ruined your reputation! Beat the shameless hussy to death!" Phoebe Huxley started hollering again. Fiona Rhodes’s mouth twitched. ’No wonder even Father-in-law can’t do a thing about her,’ she thought. ’She’s absolutely ungovernable.’
