Chapter 464: Chapter 464: Chop for Me

Phoebe Huxley scoffed and marched toward the Hawthorne family’s home. The others panicked. ’Is she really going to get someone to attack her?’

Someone tried to persuade Mandy York not to go against Phoebe Huxley, but Mandy wouldn’t listen. "Afraid? My ass! If Rosalind Green dares to hurt anyone, I’ll eat this handful of mud."

She scooped up a handful of mud from the ground, her back ramrod straight. ’This time, she would definitely win. That useless trash Rosalind Green wouldn’t have the guts to lay a hand on her. The last time she beat that bastard, Adrian Hawthorne, the vixen did nothing but cry. A good-for-nothing.’

The others couldn’t be bothered to persuade her anymore. Besides, this wasn’t the first time Mandy York and Phoebe Huxley had clashed, and they were happy to watch the drama unfold.

Before long, Phoebe Huxley returned, dragging Rosalind Green with her. Rosalind looked flustered. She had been washing clothes at home when Phoebe Huxley had stormed in out of nowhere, grabbed her, and told her to bring the wood hatchet because they were going to attack someone.

’But why attack someone for no reason?’

"Aurelia really brought the vixen over. Mandy, you should get out of here," someone said.

"I’m not scared! Let her try and cut me, that vixen!" Mandy York was still talking tough. She refused to leave; she wasn’t about to let Phoebe Huxley have the last laugh.

Phoebe Huxley was in front of her in no time. Rosalind Green instinctively hid behind Phoebe Huxley. She wasn’t used to dealing with so many people, and her cowering posture only made Mandy York look on with even greater contempt.

"Strike her!"

Phoebe Huxley said, pointing at Mandy York. Rosalind Green froze for a moment, then looked horrified and timidly shook her head. Mandy York’s mocking laughter was piercing, and Phoebe Huxley seethed with rage.

"Do you have any idea what she was just saying about you? She said two hooligans had their way with you and that you loved it! She said you wish they’d come to your door every day to do you, and that your son never should have chased them off—that he ruined your fun!"

Rosalind Green’s face went ashen, and tears streamed down her cheeks. "No... I chased those hooligans away with my hatchet. I never thought anything like that... I have a husband..."

The onlookers began to look uncomfortable. They weren’t malicious people at heart, and seeing Rosalind’s miserable state, their hearts softened. They no longer had the stomach to jeer and fell silent.

"Who knows if he’s your husband or just some lover? You, attack someone? Don’t make me laugh! Hmph, I’m sure you’ve got plenty of strength for holding on to a lover, though!" Mandy York sneered, infuriated by the sight of the vixen’s tear-streaked face.

Because when Rosalind cried, her tear-streaked face had a tragic beauty that could stir pity in anyone’s heart. It made many of the men on Millstone Peak, including Mandy York’s husband, Sherman Golding, feel protective of her. Mandy had caught her own husband staring at Rosalind in a daze more than once, his eyes practically glued to her.

Rosalind Green’s face grew even paler as she tearfully retorted, "He is my husband! I’ve done nothing wrong; my reputation is clean! Stop slandering me!"

Phoebe Huxley shoved the wood hatchet into her hand and snapped, "What’s the use of arguing with her? She said you don’t have the guts to do it, right? Then show her! Go for this bitch’s head! If you kill her, I’ll take the blame!"

Rosalind Green tightened her grip on the hatchet, but she was still terrified. The courage she’d mustered last night had vanished. ’Being asked to attack someone just like that... she really couldn’t do it!’

Phoebe Huxley ran a hand through her hair in frustration and raised her voice. "Have you forgotten this bitch beat your son? If you care about him at all, get revenge for him now! Go on, strike!"

Rosalind Green’s expression changed, and her grip on the hatchet tightened. The image of Adrian Hawthorne’s bruised and swollen face from the day they fought over the land flashed before her eyes. ’This foul woman did that to him. And now she’s trying to ruin my reputation. She’s despicable!’

"PFFT..."

Mandy York’s mocking laughter filled the air. Rosalind Green looked up and met her contemptuous gaze. The look was like a dagger, stabbing deep into Rosalind’s heart.
