Chapter 407: Chapter 407: The Panicked Jim Thorne
The moment they were out the gate, Jim Thorne scooped up Tang Xiaonan and took off running. He vanished in a flash, still worried that the robber would snatch his little sister away. The farther he ran, the safer he felt.
"It’s fine. He calls the shots in Capria, so it’s useless no matter how far you run." Adrian Hawthorne really didn’t see the point. If Crazy Master truly wanted to keep Tang Xiaonan, they wouldn’t even be able to leave Capria.
"We’re going back today. I’m not staying in this godforsaken place. Let’s hurry up and buy tickets."
Jim Thorne’s nerves were shot again, and he was in a frantic hurry to get to the train station. Tang Xiaonan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but she was still quite touched. She gently patted her third brother on the head. "Crazy Uncle is a very nice person. Don’t be scared, Third Brother."
"Nice, my ass! He was about to snatch you away. Let’s just go home. This place isn’t safe."
Jim Thorne glanced around, paranoid, thinking everyone he saw was up to no good.
"Are you stupid? If Crazy Master really wanted to take Xiaonan, do you think you could get out of Capria?" Adrian Hawthorne rolled his eyes, exasperated.
Tang Xiaonan nodded. ’Crazy Master is the local kingpin here, with connections in every circle. We definitely wouldn’t be able to leave. Besides, I really don’t think I’m that likable. He must have just been joking. He wouldn’t really keep me here.’
"Then what do we do?" Jim Thorne grew anxious, his tone turning aggressive.
Adrian Hawthorne said calmly, "We do what we were going to do. We’ll take Xiaonan out on the town tomorrow. We’ve come all this way, so we should have some fun for a few days before heading back."
Tang Xiaonan beamed and nodded. ’That’s more like it. I’m definitely not coming with them next time, so I have to make the most of it and have fun for a few more days. And also—’
"I want to get my picture taken! Uncle bought me a lot of dresses."
Jim Thorne glanced at the bags Adrian Hawthorne was carrying and grew even more disgruntled. He muttered, "Xiaonan, don’t trust that robber too much. When Third Brother makes money, I’ll buy you lots of floral dresses, a new one for every day."
’Hmph. As if a few cheap gifts are enough to coax my sister away. In his dreams!’
"I want pretty shoes and bags, too. You have to buy them for me, Third Brother," Tang Xiaonan added to her list. ’He needs a goal to stay motivated, after all.’
"I’ll buy them! I’ll buy them all!" fгeewebnovёl.com
Jim Thorne was brimming with confidence. ’I’m about to become a man of means! A few clothes and shoes are nothing. In the future, Xiaonan will drink malted milk and eat White Rabbit candy every day. She’ll wear new clothes and new shoes every day and be the prettiest girl in all of Millstone Peak.’
"So what did you do today?" Adrian Hawthorne asked with interest.
"I had ice cream and Coke, then we went out for a meal that was super delicious. After eating, we went to the department store, and when we got back, we watched a movie. The movie was boring, so I went to sleep."
Tang Xiaonan gave a simple summary of her day, naturally leaving out the part about the movie that was inappropriate for children. She just said it was a war film. Jim Thorne was instantly envious; he loved war films the most.
"That robber can watch movies at his house?"
Jim Thorne couldn’t wrap his head around it. ’Don’t you have to go to a movie theater? Or maybe someone brings a projector to the village, but you’d still need a white sheet and the machine, right? How can you watch one at home?’
Tang Xiaonan nodded. "You can. He has lots of movies!"
Adrian Hawthorne explained, "All you need is a projector and videotapes."
Jim Thorne blurted out, "When we have money, let’s get one of those projector-and-videotape setups! Villagers can pay to watch. Ten cents per person. Ten people would be a yuan. That seems like easy money."
Adrian Hawthorne hadn’t considered it before, but now his mind was turning. ’That dumb bear Jim Thorne actually came up with a good idea. We could run a small home theater to make money. The initial investment might be big, but there would be almost no overhead later on. It might be worth a try in the future.’
