Chapter 484: Chapter 484: A Son-in-Law as Good as a Son
"Dad, I’ll bring you some bone broth tomorrow. The doctor said it’s good to drink more bone broth during this time," Ding Anguo said as he looked at Feng Guolun.
"Good, good, have the in-laws come back too?" Feng Guolun asked with a smile, only to receive a roll of the eyes from Ruan Qingru.
"Yes," Ding Anguo responded with a smile, "Once Dad is discharged, let’s all get together."
"Ah, yes, yes, we should get together," Feng Guolun thought of Li Hongying’s cooking and couldn’t help but swallow.
Ding Anguo and Feng Lishu stayed for half an hour before being urged to leave by Ruan Qingru, "Wait until he’s discharged to visit at home, the child is still young, better not stay too long at the hospital, it’s enough that we’ve seen each other."
"Mom, we left the stuff at Mrs. Wang’s place. Anmin and I bought you and Dad wool sweaters. It’s the perfect time to wear them now, warm," Feng Lishu said, "We’ll stay at home tonight, I’ve spoken to my mother-in-law."
"Qingru, you go home with the kids. It’s just my leg, I can manage the bathroom and everything myself, and if not, there’s still the nurse. You don’t need to stay here tonight, in a couple of days I’ll be discharged anyway," Feng Guolun said to Ruan Qingru.
"Okay, sounds good, I’ll go home with Dumplings and Tangyuan then," Ruan Qingru knew about Feng Guolun’s condition; she’d thought it less trouble to stay, but now the situation was different.
"See you tomorrow, Grandpa," Dumplings waved at Feng Guolun, words that instantly warmed Feng Guolun’s heart.
"Oh wow, our Dumplings and Tangyuan are so smart," Ruan Qingru said with delight, holding Tangyuan, while Dumplings was in Ding Anguo’s arms. The five walked towards the employee housing of the power plant.
As dusk settled, Ruan Qingru wasn’t in a rush to retrieve things, so she didn’t check the neighboring door. However, when she opened her door, the neighbor’s door opened as well.
"Qingru," Mrs. Wang greeted them with a smile as they returned.
"Cuiju," Ruan Qingru greeted back with a smile, "I heard from Anguo and Lishu about today, really thank you. Otherwise, these two kids would be blindfolded, but they wanted to surprise us, so they didn’t contact us beforehand."
Mrs. Wang chuckled, "Your daughter and son-in-law are wonderful; they brought so many things back for you."
Mrs. Wang’s family helped carry the things to Ruan Qingru’s courtyard, and after some warm exchanges, they parted.
Looking at the items in the living room, Ruan Qingru was both happy and pained. There was truly too much stuff. Besides the wool sweaters Feng Lishu had mentioned, there were scarves, gloves, two cans of malted milk, and plenty to eat—milk candies, peach crisps, canned goods—plus lots of ingredients: dried vegetables, smoked meat, dried chicken...
"How did you manage to bring so much with just the two of you and the kids?" Ruan Qingru was a bit heartbroken, "Save your money and tickets for yourselves. Your dad and I won’t be short of food, yet you keep bringing things over."
"Mom, we only spent money on the wool sweaters. The rest was prepared by my mother-in-law," Feng Lishu said with a cheeky smile, truly having nothing to criticize about her mother-in-law, who was always fair-minded and helped raise the children well.
Dumplings and Tangyuan were practically raised by Li Hongying, so well-behaved and sensible, thanks to her upbringing, something Feng Lishu herself might not have achieved.
"The in-laws are really thoughtful," Ruan Qingru said, touched. This marriage was a real blessing; where else could you find such wonderful people, "Make sure to be devoted to your in-laws."
"Mom, I know. Don’t worry. I have a good relationship with my in-laws," Feng Lishu said with a smile, pushing Ruan Qingru to try on the clothes, while Ding Anguo took the kids to the room, made milk for them, supervised their brushing and washing, helped them wash their feet, and started calming them for sleep.
In Ruan Qingru’s room, Feng Lishu sat on the bed’s edge, watching her mom try on the new wool sweater—camel color, great for matching clothes, high-neck style—and it looked stunning on Ruan Qingru’s well-proportioned figure.
"Mom, it looks beautiful," Feng Lishu praised.
"Yes, I feel good too, very comfortable to wear," Ruan Qingru checked herself in the mirror, left and right, even looked behind her, satisfied all around, "You have a good eye."
"Hehe, I helped pick it with Anmin. She has a good eye for these things; makes lovely sweaters and clothes. Sewed me quite a few summer dresses," Feng Lishu chuckled.
"Then my praise should be for your husband’s taste," Ruan Qingru said with a warm smile, "You married well and are happy, I’m not worried, nor is your dad. We feel assured after I stayed in Jing City; despite everything, you’re living well, who wouldn’t want such a great family."
"Once you and Dad retire, come live with us in Jing City," Feng Lishu draped a coat over Ruan Qingru, then hugged her arm, lying on the bed, resting her head on her shoulder.
"What daughter gets married and takes her parents with her?" Ruan Qingru laughed.
"Anguo said once we buy a house in Jing City and you retire, you’ll come live with us," Feng Lishu said playfully.
"You’re planning to buy a house in Jing City?" Ruan Qingru was surprised, "That’s expensive, where will you get the money?"
Ruan Qingru had thought about this, but their financial situation couldn’t afford a home in Jing City.
"Why would you consider moving? What about your in-laws? Ancheng is from the Xu Family, aren’t you supposed to live more with them? If you move, what will happen to your in-laws, don’t be foolish," Ruan Qingru furrowed her brow, shrugged, and turned to look at her daughter.
Feng Lishu chuckled, "Mom, you’ve misunderstood, we’re not moving, the house is mainly for you and Dad."
Ruan Qingru breathed a sigh of relief but still disagreed, "There’s no need to do that."
"So Anguo invested with eldest brother in a business venture, using the 1,000 yuan you gave us," Feng Lishu stuck out her tongue, grateful again to Ding Anguo, who had thought things through.
Ruan Qingru was surprised, "Your eldest brother went into business?"
Feng Lishu hadn’t mentioned this at home, so she explained what she knew about Xu Ancheng taking leave from Jing University to start a business.
"Eldest brother is good at business, he’s cooperating with some friends, but mainly he’s the face of the operation. The partners are mainly investors, and he’s looking out for Anguo as well, wouldn’t forget to support his brother, so they’re both involved. We didn’t have to put up money, Anguo used the 1,000 yuan, probably with you in mind."
